We first visited on a groupon deal and have been back about 6 times since. The food is delicious and the staff are very welcoming. We highly recommend the fish finger sandwich(which although sounds basic it’s delightful, great quality fish!). Situated just behind the college in Burton, it’s well worth a visit if ever you’re in town!

The Winery is situated just behind Burton College, near the market; it is a large building with a Tudor façade, amply served by an expansive car park. The inside décor is good mix of modern and traditional, in keeping with the building itself. The Winery had long sat at the top of my Qype recommendations(where have they gone?) for Burton, as we had a voucher for two people for two courses, it seemed like an opportune time to give it a try. After getting our drinks from the huge bar(in both size and choice), we were shown to our table in the main restaurant area, which although in the centre of the room, was surrounded on two sides by a wooden partition, so although you were in the midst of a bustling restaurant, it still had some degree of privacy. Menu wise for lunch there was about five choices for each course, we chose to skip the starter and go straight for the main. The choice was a good one with a fish pie, ribeye steak(for a supplement) and a couple of pasta dishes. Between us we had the penne pasta with spicy meatballs in a rich tomato suace, and the linguini with wild mushrooms and sweet cherry tomatoes. Both a decent sized portion and full of flavour, a good start. Having a nice relaxing lunch in the spacious dining room, surrounded by the copious selection of different wines, we were impressed by the Winery. The staff were efficient and attentive, without being obtrusive. Obviously a difficult choice on the dessert, but we went for the Eton Mess and the treacle tart, both very light and tasty. A good strong coffee to finish the meal and a resolution that would return soon!

This was our 1st visit to the winery after a recommendation from a friend, and I have to say I wasn’t disapointed, The surroundings are impressive, the waiting staff are polite and attentive, the food was out of the world, I opted for the blade of beef which was served on a bed of mashed potato, needless to say say I didn’t need a knife to cut it as it had been braised to perfection in a Burton Beer Gravy, absoulutley lovely. The wine list is imppresive with a good choice and 1⁄3 bottles are available which makes things better should you like different wines(I like red, the wife likes white) Overall I would recommend to anyone, not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for in this life. Well done, we will be going back soon. Steve(of Burton On Trent)

Take your time waiting for service with an excellent bottle of wine. Then came also an excellent plate. So OK, time is little bit long, but you forgot wasted time when you have enjoyed all you drink and eat.

The Winery isn’t the type of place to go if you are looking for a quick, cheap snack during your lunch hour but if you have a little more time and disposable cash, The Winery is probably the best restaurant in Burton. The food is delicious, the service is good and the setting is A1 being based in a building which is significantly important in the history of Burton upon Trent. The Winery is quite hidden away behind Burton Market and the College but well worth a visit.

The combination of food, wine and atmos makes for a lovely night out. The Winery is a bar /restaurant hidden behinds the market square in central burton. One side is a small bar, the other an open reatuarant area. I go with my(very lovely) wife, so we go for a booth on the side, but they also have larger group tables. The food is good posh nosh — the sort of stuff you see on Masterchef. The pork belly was superb. One thing I really appreciate is the wine. They have something like 40 wines that you can get by the glass or carafina(= large glass). I tend to have a different wine with each course. Overall, a really enjoyable experience.
