Had lunch with my wife and baby daughter. Was good value for money 2 courses for £11. The Black pudding croquettes were very nice and something a bit different. Nice friendly service from the staff.

The best Sunday Roast in North Manchester! Such a lovely pub, it’s hard to believe that i’ve lived a few miles from here all my life and have never tried it. Downstairs is a traditional pub and a few tables. I can imagine it gets very busy at the weekend. The restaurant, upstairs, is lovely and very large. After looking at the menu, it was clear that the sunday roast was going to be the winner, so i opted for the beef Sunday roast with yorkshire pudding and all the veg! We also ordered cauliflower cheese on the side as an extra. Overall i couldn’t fault the meal. It was excellent and the service was impeccable too!

TL;DR — Gorgeous pub, serving possibly the best pastrami in the country? The Clarence ticks lots of boxes — it’s a gorgeous building, restored in a modern style but which is sympathetic to its history. The whole place is full of lovely little touches like the«newspaper» style menus, the most stylish smoking shelter I’ve ever seen, the traditional bar… even the toilets are a work of art. We came for the food though and were not disappointed. First up, when we asked for tea they offered us loose leaf or bagged — anywhere serving loose leaf scores highly in my books. Then we ordered our pastrami bagels… according to the menu they took their inspiration from Katz’s deli in New York. Having sample Katz’s pastrami on rye myself, I realise this is a significant claim. Most pastrami in the UK is wafer thin and insipid. Not here — these were great big thick slices of delicious pastrami far better than anything I’ve had anywhere other than Katz’s. Was it *as good* as Katz’s? No. But it was the closest I’ve ever tasted. Everything else with the meal was great — the salad was nicely put together, the bagel was fresh and the fries were seasoned wonderfully with salt and paprika. I came incredibly close to giving the Clarence 5 stars but there were just a couple of issues. Firstly, they served our lunch on a wooden board which is not all that unusual — but this board was really too small for the meal and to begin with it was an exercise in making sure nothing fell off the edge. The second downside was that in the gents’ toilets they’ve installed some kind of peep show which you’re encouraged to use — except it wasn’t working. In truth though, I’d like to give them 4.5. We’re definitely, definitely coming back. There’s so much tasty stuff on the menu(we were salivating at every dish the staff carried past), but if the only thing on their menu was pastrami I’d still keep coming back.

Recently renovated and restored, The Clarence is a pub, restaurant, cocktail bar and brewery all under one roof. The ground floor pub has a generous seating area surrounding the bar, serving a decent selection of real ale and wines. Food is also served down here from the pub menu. On the first floor is the ‘finer dining’ restaurant, with huge windows overlooking Market Place with views of impressive Bury Parish Church. A noticeable quirky feature is their rope pulley dumbwaiter in the corner, used to quickly deliver meals and empty dishes up and down. A great touch. Service was warm and welcoming, we were given time to peruse the menu(deciding to order exactly the same meal — medium rare ribeye steak and skinny fries). Served with a choice of sauces, I opted for the Kitchen Steak Sauce, it was a seriously juicy and gorgeous cut of beef. Thoroughly recommended. The New York style cheesecake with poached rhubarb and orange jelly was alright, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. The second floor, the cocktail bar, was booked for a private event so we couldn’t properly check it out unfortunately. It wasn’t apparent when we visited if the brewery in the basement — Silver Street Brewing — was open to the public, but their beers were available on the pumps and you could also buy bottles to take home with you. If you’re heading to Bury, this place is definitely worth a visit, be it just for a drink or an entire evening.

We went to the Clarence the weekend it opened and have been back a number of times since. The whole place brings a bit of class to an otherwise ropes run of bars. The gimmick inside is quirky and cool, bar staff are friendly and attentive and the drinks available are brilliant(I recommend trying their own beers, brewed downstairs, especially One, it’s ace!) We’ve eaten there once too and the food is as good as every other aspect. Reasonably priced and a nice restaurant environment upstairs above the bar. I would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

I have been in here a few times for drinks but finally went for food a few weekends ago. I took my parents along as its there ‘type of place’. My dad and boyfriends had the burger my mum had sausage and mash and I had sea food sliders. All the food was beautifully presented that fit well with the theme of the restaurant. Everyone agreed that the food tasted amazing. Mine was really yummy but I would like to try something different next time. I think its reasonably priced too which was a bonus of course :) I would defiantly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Bury area its a lovely treat

I’ve been looking forward to visiting this place since I first heard about its reopening and I wasn’t disappointed! It’s a huge pub which has been restored and revamped to include a bar, restaurant and cocktail bar. It’s also the new home of the Silver Street Brewery which is in the basement. We visited on a Friday evening and although it was fairly busy we managed to get a good table in the pub(you can book for the restaurant but not for the bar). The beer selection is good — mainly Silver Street but it also has some from Outstanding and two guest cask ales. The pub is well designed — it has a round bar surrounded by a lovely tiled floor. There’s also a snug area. For food, I went for the sausage and mash while it was the burger for Ross. Both meals were very enjoyable and hearty as well as being nicely presented. The food came quite quickly and the staff were friendly and efficient. Overall, I’m very glad The Clarence was worth the hype! Looking forward to our next visit when we’ll hopefully try out the main restaurant!
