Like James. C mentions, this particular Greggs is rather oddly placed. A day time food establishment situated amongst a row of night time takeaways and the Old Brewery’s Quarter –the home of fancy restaurants. Do people actually go here? I have happened to pass this Greggs once and purchased a sausage roll, that’s about it, it’s just not on the way to anywhere, but it still survives so it must get custom. I’m not the fan of Greggs, the food bores me a little, I don’t really like eating pastry too often as don’t want to put on a billion stone, so yes you won’t really catch me here. I think there are a lot of other places people can go that serve up imaginative food and a greater, healthier variation. The staff always seem to be nice though and don’t think I have had a horrible experience here, well apart from when it’s frustratingly busy. The thing about Greggs is that there are so many and they are always conveniently there when you need them and the price is right.

… This is the most redundant purveyor of delicious baked delights I have ever seen. Why would you plant yourself on the edge of chippy lane? It’s like you WANT to go out of business competing with a bunch of high class restaurants and low-brow chippys. I love Greggs. They’re cheap, they’re cheerful and the food is always good if you’re in a rush, but I feel kind of slighted by this incursion into the hallowed ground of Chippy Lane. It just doesn’t feel right. I get the impression that Greggs is trying to provide an alternative to the restaurants and the chip shops, but it just seems like they’re trying to impose their business on a place that doesn’t want it. That may seem irrational, but Greggs has no place on Chippy Lane. This is a sacred place, and we’ll have none of your delicious pastry treats with our greasy, deep fried slop, thank you very much!

All Greggs are pretty much the same in my book, so they have to something particularly exceptional to get above or below a three star review. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed by the effort made by the staff in this place today. Upon arrival, I was demanded to tell them what my order was, despite having only just arrived and having not yet decided(I was the only customer, so they weren’t exactly in a rush). Then when I had counted my pennies and decided on a sausage roll, they ignored me and seemed annoyed when I finally got their attention. Then I was given two sausage rolls instead of the one that I asked for, and hence more annoyance on both sides. Now, this is the clincher. The cost was 58p and I gave her 59p. I stood there waiting politely for my change. But she simply moved on to the next customer. Can a person complain about being shortchanged by 1p? Did she actually know she had stolen 100% of the money I had to my name? Perhaps not, I’ll forgive her. But even so, customer service needs working on in this place.
