Great food, large quantities and friendly staff. Most diners here have some sort of voucher which is only available on selected sites and not their own website.

This is a great little café come lunch-stop that offers a good range of Greek and British food. It does a mean coffee as well. I like to stop in from time to time and pick up a small baked item that I can’t quite identify. It’s home baked stuff, so you can always ask the staff. It’s a family-run place that has managed to maintain itself because of its prime location in the centre of Cardiff near the Central Market and The Hayes. On a sunny day it can be a great place to dine alfresco and watch the hustle and bustle of, I would estimate, the fourth most busy area of Cardiff.

Tucked away down Church Street, Pipi’s café is a great little café that’s all too easy to bypass, which is bad for them but great for us. I think it may have something to do with the slightly tacky sign and downstairs seating area which is strictly meh. But upstairs is a lovely laidback lounge, one in which you can easily while away a comfy lunch hour. The sofas, the Zero 7 style noodlings on the stereo, the big blinds, the soft-lighting and free wi-fi make it a kind of a city centre Shot in The Dark. They have a mouth-watering display of cakes and pastries with a rather wide range of what I think are Greek delicacies. Wherever they come from they are lush. But if you come here for one reason then it has to be the ridiculously big sandwiches. They are massive, so big in fact that they can easily feed two. Opt for the Greek salad one; it’s fresh, crunchy and divine.

Pipi’s is a little café in Cardiff city centre that can easily be missed. With all the Starbucks, Caffe Neros and Costa dotted around the place, one n easily be forgiven for missing all the local places or simply not being convinced that they exist anymore. Even as a local, I still stumble across these places and am pleasantly surprised every time. Pipi’s is a good place to grab a bite to eat in the centre, and is certainly just a pleasant as many of the chains nearby. The food has a good selection and(this is why I like the place) all their most tempting items are also the healthiest. Weird. Perhaps that’s just me. The café is nicely decorated the staff are always polite and courteous, seemingly genuinely pleased to see you there(probably true). The only place that does let this place down is their coffee. Not that it’s particularly bad; it’s just not particularly wonderful either. But an excellent place for when you have the munchies, Greggs just won’t cut it and you’re feeling particularly anti-global-coffee-company.

Not just a regular bakery or café but one that sells all sorts of yummy stuff that you get in Greece and the med. I likes nothing more than getting a cup of tea a slice of gâteaux and relaxing upstairs with the newspaper or writing up my reviews on the free wifi while dreaming of holiday’s and ignoring all the calories i’m consuming. The service tends to be a bit on the slow side but I don’t really mind the wait because I know it’ll be worth it. It’s really good for something a bit different and certainly is a lovely treat!

I love being a Scout for Unilocal! It is the best job in the world because it means that I have an excuse to go to all the best places in Cardiff; I get to try something exciting every day and no one can complain! One day, we’d just had lunch and I wanted something sweet but I thought ‘well, why stay here to have pudding? we should go somewhere else and I can get two reviews in one!’ So, thinking that(but with a lazy boyfriend in tow) I went to Pipi’s, just across the street. Boy, am I glad that we did. It was beautiful. The café itself(with indoor and outdoor seating) is really very cute and the food. Oo-wee. It is real good fresh food — cakes and pastries and other delicious edibles. And for cheap too! I would definitely go back — and intend to introduce all of my friends to it.
