Not a lot to say about this place. Bit pricey and portions looked small. Menu on the whole looked great but I’m definitely more of a portions guy lol. Vegi option lacking too for the Mrs. Makes a great meeting place or wine bar which also has a beer garden front and back.

First the good. Our server was harried but friendly. The atmosphere was lovely. This pub is plainly a local favorite. It was packed on Friday. They can accommodate large parties, and have some couches. Be sure to reserve a table. The food. I tried the poached chicken. The chicken was juicy, but the pool of sauce it was in was one note. The potato dauphinois was flavorless. The seasonal greens turned out to be steamed cabbage, definitely not my first choice. My spouse had the salmon with chorizo risotto. The salmon was fine, but the risotto had a flavor I didn’t care for. Maybe a less tasty cheese? The hits of the night were my daughters Parmesan crusted chicken strips and chips and a roasted peach desert. But even the peach I felt I could have done better at home — it was baked without getting caramelized at all.

Top class food, really clever menus that are really well done. Meals of a standard that you would except at a much more expensive restaurant. Good beers and good wines. Gastropub is over used but this place is both Gastro and pub, well worth both a pint and a great meal.

I like the latest incarnation of this pub, although it’s a shame it’s lost the Welsh name(Y Cadno). It now feels more homely as they’ve put a few more tables in, though it’s not like you’re breathing down anyone’s neck. I’ve not tried the food but there’s an ok selection of ales and wines and nice chairs. Would be a good place to take parents or a date for a drink.

This is a new pub — I once went to the pub that used to be here and i have to say The Cricketers is 1000% improvement. The new management /owners have a mission to create a nice atmosphere in which good food and drink can be enjoyed and do you know what? They are achieving it. I had the traditional pork sausages with new potatoes and cider sauce — it cost 8 quid and was DEElicious. Check it out as I think it out shines other cathedral road pubs that now seemed a little jaded by comparison.

I live in London, an come home to Cardiff for the Cricket. I went to the Cricketers, formerly the Cadno, and wow what a change, significantly for the better. Excellent food, good service with a new management team that know what they are about. Excellent and great value for money. An excellent range of beers, and to be farnk on a wet summers day a great place to spend the afternoon… The food is in the top echelons of Cardiff eating, fresh produce, I had steak one day and fresh fish the next frankly it was as good as anything I have eaten in London and who ever the new manager is now deserves ap pat on the back. The Roast Beef yesterday was again delicious, and roasted beetroort, never had that before but wow, how good is that. The team of ladies behind the bar and serving front of house are attentive and good. This is the best pub on Cathedral road, and represents far better value for money than any of the others, including the Conway. Any one who writes a bad report about this Pub either is a competitor feeling the pinch, or someone who knows nothing about good fesh food. This is truly great and worth a visit. 10 out of 10.

Nice décor, but slow and poor service, felt like it was an effort for the staff. Poor aftertaste from the beer. Food was bland and not very warm. Very bad experiance! Will not go here again any time soon! And cant recomend to be visited with better places on the same road.

This Cathedral Road pub is housed in an old Victorian town house near the county cricket ground(hence the name) in the wealthy suburb of Pontcanna, not far from Bute Park and the city centre. It’s firmly established itself as a quality drinking hole serving quality Welsh ales and good wines, with a quality menu of fresh, seasonal and simple food. From Penclawdd cockles and lava bread to Welsh goats’ cheese and Carmarthen ham, many of the ingredients are also locally sourced. It also has not just one but two great beer gardens, which are sunny and very popular during the summer. They also host live music events from time to time, with a two day Jazz Fest coming up in September, so check the website for forthcoming events.

What a transformation, a little in décor and to another world in terms of food and service. Fish soup to die for! How often do you get lobster in a fish pie(in Cardiff, anyway!)??? At last, a welcome food addition to the Cardiff scene, not ANOTHER chain, mass produced, processed stuff! Great fresh food, obviously prepared with a passion! Keep it up guys, cant wait to come back, maybe a Sunday lunch next time. Stay tuned!
