I am a big fan of the Heath. When I was in my first year of uni, this was the closest pub to my halls of residence and we often went there for a quiet drink on nights when we had a lot of work or couldn’t afford a proper night out. Unfortunately for my essays, their white wine spritzers are perfect, and just one easily turned into three or four. The Heath is a lovely pub because it has that old fashioned class you don’t get in the chain pubs that are slowly replacing them. It’s also quite quiet too, during the week. And by quiet, I don’t mean empty, I mean quiet. Full of people who have gone for a quiet drink. Not full of drunk students and rowdy chavs, which makes a nice change. Of course, this pub is well equipped with massive TVs for sports events, so, like everywhere else, it’s busy when there’s a game on. One of the reasons it is a great pub for a quiet drink is the seating. It’s not jam packed with tables you have to squeeze past; there are nice booths where you can sit in a group largely undisturbed by the other customers. The only downside is that it’s somewhere you have to make a special effort to go to if you don’t live nearby. But if you’re within walking distance, it’s worth taking a wander there one night. You may well find yourself becoming a regular.
