Each time I visit I get more and more frustrated with the place and long to get out my Farrow and Ball paint and re decorate. The Restaurant bit, reminds me of a Bernie Inn from the 70s hideous décor with plastic plant pots on the window sill. The last and only time we ate in the Restaurant, the music had broken and someone had left the hoover in full view, it is really very depressing. If I owned the Cricketers I would rush to the Old Plough at Stoke D’abernon and see what they have done, everyone goes there now and it is always fantastic but difficult to get a booking as it is full most nights of the week. Failing that, leave the Cricketers as an Olde Worlde Pub and start doing decent pub food again, I wish I could buy it.

Good but not great. Food was decent and atmosphere was fine just not memorable. I’d recommend the pub it’s just not a must go to pub.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I went for a meal to the Cricketers last Friday. I’ve been there quite a few times before, but hadn’t been for a few months. I was already a fan of theirs, but now it’s even better! The food is consistently delicious(otherwise I wouldn’t go back!), but this time it just went above and beyond. And it’s just such a lovely place to eat as well because of the large sunny beer garden! It’s safe to say I’ll be making quite a few trips there from now on.

When I die and hopefully make it to heaven, Cricketers will be the pub I hope to hang at for the rest of eternity! Beers to die for and the chips are most definitely fried with crack. Worth the flight across The Pond, by itself!

My wife and I live in Cobham. This is an EXCELLENT place to go if you have kids under the age of 10. Outside the pub there is a great outdoor sitting area which is a sun trap in Summer. There are two kids play parks for infants and a jungle gym for more grown up kids and there are some woods around the grassy common that the kids can run around in and explore. The pub itself is ‘classical’. There are low wooden beams and space set around a central bar. The beers are very good and there’s a great menu. For kids the penne bolognese and particularly the chicken pasta are amazing. For the grown ups the menu is universally good. We really look forward to going here as a family treat and my kids(5, 3 and 1) are treated like grown ups and made to feel very special as they drink their lemonade. My only complaint is that they do not start the log fire early enough in the day during the winter: there is no point starting the fire at opening time, it should be going 2 – 3 hours before opening to warm the chimney and get a good blaze to warm the pub. When I was there last I got told off in a grumpy way for putting logs on the fire as they worry about the chimney not coping with the smoke: there’s a simple answer — the chimney’s cold so it’s not drawing the air up. The pub can therefore be cold in the winter which is really not what you want.

This is a very ‘cute’, quaint country pub, slightly off the beaten track with a great beer garden which overlooks Downside Green. Inside the place is warm and cosy with exposed beams and dated décor. I’ve only ever been here for lunch but it’s always busy — during the week and weekends too. There’s the usual pub selection of food choices, but I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever been impressed with the food. The only thing I’ve ever enjoyed from the menu was the burger. They offer sandwiches but they’re of the basic, make in your own kitchen style not. The sausages are reasonable but they steak-pie I had last time was watery and tasteless. The staff may be friendly towards the ‘regulars’ but I find the majority of them grumpy, busy and not very happy looking. As someone else mentioned, I do like their secure payment system where they take your credit card and hold it in a secure box until you are finished

Great country pub, very much in the olde worlde style with lots of beams and open fires in the winter — very cosy. Seating is available outside overlooking the village green at Downside for when the weather’s a bit better. Friendly and professional staff plus a secure system for running a tab and paying at the end of the evening. Your credit or debit card is put in its own locked box and you’re given the only key so it’s safe. My partner and I had lunch there and thought the food was great. I had a home-made 8oz steak burger which was well seasoned and came with fat chips that were to die for — crispy on the outside and melt-in-the-mouth fluffy on the inside. My partner had steak pie which was just as good — with lots of steak in it(which is not something you can always say of pub pies). Portions were of a good size so neither of us could squeeze in a dessert — and we’re both big eaters. The restaurant menu looks great too, so we’ll definitely be going back to try that soon.

Good country pub, with very good bar snacks, lots of outside seating. Very popular and can get busy.
