As a family, TGI is a go to restaurant for us for birthdays, but either the experience TGI Croydon offers has slipped or I’ve simply grown out of the novelty. If you want a buzzing atmosphere then the West End is the place to go. The portion sizes are huge which offers good value for money, and the cocktails on offer are varied. I do feel that the restaurant itself needs a bit of a facelift. Something I’ve noticed on the last few occasions is that the spotlights have a slight flicker on them wherever you sit, which can be pretty distracting. The service we had was very good, our particular waitress was extremely attentive. Overall, if you want the American diner experience, you will get what you pay for food wise, but I would head more central for atmosphere.

In my younger days I was a fan of TGI’s less so now in general. This one is located near the Croydon ‘Airport’. I think there may be a tram stop nearby but generally it is a drive with parking available at the back. Even though this TGIs is rather out of the way, you generally find that you do have to book so be aware! It does tend to get rather busy. Usual TGI set up with décor, bar area for a pre-drink and food being ‘American diner’ type. Burgers, ribs(which are usually very good, fall of the bone meat good), fries and calorie laden salads. Good range on the menu and on the cocktail side. Caters well for Kids with special menu but also things to keep them occupied. If you have a birthday event there, they usually get the restaurant to do a round of happy birthday to you and possibly crown you with a balloon hat also. Service is usually pretty ‘American friendly’, service can be hit and miss depending on who you get and how busy they are but generally the waiting staff try hard. From what is available in that area, it is one of the better options.

Great experience was a friends birthday. Very buzzy and vibrant service was quite slow but the food was worth the minimum wait. Menu are affordable.

TGI Is a great reasturant and has a great bar. Its not exactly cheap but i think you get what you pay for and the Jack Daniels sauce is devine. TGI In Purley way has nothing on the atmosphere of that on covent garden but it depends on what you are going for, If you want a quiet meal with your partner than Purley way is the one for you. But if you want a night out than a trip up West is most definatly needed. Staff in Purley way tend to be quite slow and not so friendly, pending on who you get. Generally Purley way is for those who like to entertain themselves or keep it low key.
