I’ve always felt pretty sorry, Alfie’s bar looks deserted and lonely every time I wander past — especially since the Grumpy Goat on the opposite corner seems to be buzzing(especially when the sun is out). My pity for them increased when they put up signs saying«Now taking applications for customers, no experience required». My office manager and I went in, as after the tales I had told him about this place, he was also starting to feel sorry. So, after a bit of sunshine in Kelvingrove Park, we walked in. I love that they have Innis and Gun on tap, as well as Schiehallion beer(my Dad’s favourite). Even so, I can’t get my head around the inside though. It doesn’t have a welcoming atmosphere, they are now serving Chinese food(with according to the bar keep means the place is always busy in the evenings — although I have never seen anybody inside). The bathrooms are odd, one of the ladies cubicles didn’t have a lock on it(hopefully they’ve fixed that now), but I do like the Where’s Wally wall. It’s just a bit out of place and with The Grumpy Goat on the opposite corner, I’m not sure how long Alfie’s will be around.

The bar is good. The cocktail is lovely with good price. This is a good place to relax in west end. They add new Chinese BBQ and fried food there. Taste good.

superb atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing prices, and has some fantastic events on, Monday Night Fifa, Monthly Stand Up Comedy Wednesdays, Thursday night jam Session, Vinyll DJ on Fridays, Live Bands, superb food, and a fun filled atmosphere. Why pay £5.00 for an average pint in Brew Dog when you can get a great pint for £2.80 in Alfies.

First ever visit to Alfie’s on Saturday. I voted Dukes, but got over ruled by the group. There is not a huge amount to say about this place to be honest. It strikes me as a bit of an old mans pub that is now trying to be something a bit trendier. Plus points were they had Harveistoun on tap.(The one beginning with an S that I can’t pronounce) They also had a super cool picture of Biggie Smalls on the wall which immediately takes it up a notch. To be honest it was pretty quiet when we were in. The locals all seemed to know each other and were friendly enough. Would I go back in a hurry? Probably not. However I would not mind going back at all if somebody else was desperate to go. An average pub, striving to be something a bit different, but falling slightly short in my opinion. Still a decent enough place for a pint.

Well, you cant win them all. This place has changed hands a lot in the last few years, but seems to have retained it’s student edge from the last incarnation with a student night and good drinks promos etc. The prices are indeed very good for this part of town. My largely negative, but wholly fair review, stems from the resident DJ playing nothing but Queens of the Stone Age really loud from his phone, even though it was driving people away, and some more specific moments that didn’t make me feel particularly welcome. With nearby bars with strong USP’s like Brewdog or Firebird, I’m not sure what these guys can offer aside from the modestly priced alcohol(don’t forget Dukes is actually really reasonable) and the extremely excitable nearby international students living in the halls of residence seemed to be having a whale of a time, so they are doing something right. Didn’t have a good vibe to it for me from the word go, so I will likely give it a miss unless they pull out a proper DJ or I hear word of a good quiz night.
