The Apollo Players have been storming the stage since 1968 and have quite the reputation in Glasgow for being one of the most professional amateur production companies you’re lucky enough to see! They do at least 2 shows a year and work closely with actors to perform showcases and promotion nights. They have a broad spectrum of members from all age groups and plenty of classes and opportunities for kids. There is a small fee every week for attending but the fee is invested back into the company and the performances are fabulous. John Carlisle and his dedicated, lifelong members have been in the biz for years and know how to put on a spectacle! I have my own person two perspectives of the Players — I’ve been to many shows and have also been a chorus member in the past. I can testify to the work being somewhat gruelling at times. John likes his dancers so it’s difficult if, like me, you struggle with two left feet. But rehearsals beat you into shape and you’re good to go when showtime wheels around. I found my time with the Apollo Players rewarding — there is an overwhelming sensation of achievement when the show is over. It’s a great stepping stone for people wanting to further their career and a great place to find your feet if you want to maintain a serious hobby since the shows are acutely professional. If you’re looking from the perspective from the audience, you will be bowled over every time at the amount of work that goes into the productions. Every single time, it shows!
