Barnardo’s Store

Unlike many of the charity shops in this area this outlet of Barnardo’s is more of an old school version of the charity shop. Ignored is the leaning towards vintage clothing, with instead a stock aimed more at the traditional charity shop market… Grannies…
Its an nice wee place, one of those that has a good selection of books that ain’t to steep in price. And to be honest, despite its lack of vintage gear, its one of those places where you can pick up the odd gem for a reasonable price. Hey, if anything its another charity shop to hit when your doing the rounds in this area.
Well laid out, good stock, clean and friendly staff. If you can fight your way through the gaggle of grannies its well worth a visit.

Barnardo’s on Dumbarton Road is a really good example of a traditional charity shop. Unlike a lot of charity shops in the West End area, Barnardo’s isn’t trying to be anything that it’s not. No overpriced «vintage» clothes here, instead you’ll find the typical charity shop £2.99 fare. They have handbags from 99p (and some of them are actually nice!) as well as a whole host of belts, boots and shoes.
The ladies who work here are really friendly, which always helps in a charity shop, and there’s a great atmosphere.
Their book selection really caught my eye, though, as they had some rare books for the bargain price of £1.29. Gutted I didn’t have any cash on me…
Definitely worth a look if you fancy a bit of a rummage.

As a regular charity shop goer, I must say I’ve come across better than this Barnardo’s. The volunteers are chatty and friendly, as all old ladies in such places are, but their clothes are not that exciting. However, they do have offers on for stock clearances every now and then — all bags 99p, and they always seem to have a fine selection of wool — which is great if you’re into knitting!
