Update time. I still think this place is great and I love eating dumplings and one day i will say thank you to the staff in Chinese. It’s packed, unfortunately not open on Sundays, and their lunch deals are good, and they have installed wifi for their customers(codes on the receipt), you have to order at the counter and it would be ideal if you spoke Chinese, but for me the won ton soup and the dumplings are still the reason to come here. Recently we had the Beef and carrot pot stickers, and I think they have become my new favourites, because they are great. The lunch box I had was tasty too, very mushroom-heavy and the rice was both mushy and slightly undercooked at the same time. Maybe I wasn’t feeling proper lunch because of the impending trip I was about to embark on. I will come back forever. You cannot stop me. You know you want to come here for dumplings too, because they are amazing. Potstickers for the win.

I can’t believe I’ve never written a review of this place despite the amount of times I’ve been. I’ve admittedly not actually tried much of the newer menu and most of my experiences are based on the smaller menu. Dumpling Monkey was so small when it opened but has since spread into the space next to it. If you go in, you order at the register and let them know your table number. They actually have an app now to order takeaway or delivery, which is what I’ve most recently done. I’ve had a lot from the basic menu, which to me means the pot stickers, some of the noodles, the steamed buns, bubble tea, and the lunch specials. I’ve always been happy with my orders and will be happy to go back. The steamed buns are nice and huge, the pot stickers have a nice filling, and they have a lot of varieties of bubble tea. Even after all of my visits I’ve not been able to explore the full menu. The one flaw is they’re not open on Sundays. I still love Dumpling Monkey,

So I finally got to try Dumpling Monkey! I was so, so excited as I love all things dumplings but had someone never got around to trying here and well it is the year of the monkey! This review is actually based on using their home delivery option — they have their own app which is super easy to use — and charge £2 for delivery which is perfectly reasonable. I ordered the steamed pork bun(£1.50!), the beef pot sticker dumplings(10 for £5.50) and the singapore fried rice noodles(£7) which come with the warning of HOT before the the dish. I was super impressed with the prices and really looking forward to my food arriving. I ordered at about 7.15pm and requested a delivery time of 8pm, after I had put my little boy to bed. Now here’s my main gripe, my order arrived just before 7.35pm. Now I fully understand that if you are putting an order time in you need to accept a bit of time either side as your potential delivery time given the logistics involved in driving the food to you. That said I’m probably only a 3 min drive from the restaurant and to have the food arrive nearly 30mins early feels like they didn’t really look at my requested delivery time at all. Now on the food. I love a pork bun, the hot and sweet centre and that light, fluffy bread. Heaven. So I grabbed it and started eating it before I’d even opened the rest of my delivery and was disappointed, waaaaaah. The filling was just too dry, making the overall bun claggy to eat. I ended up dipping it in the soya sauce that was provided for my dumplings and that just made it taste weird. The pot stickers were immense, my favourite dumplings ever eaten outside China Town in New York. I will be back for bucket loads of these!!! The filling tasted so good but wasn’t too heavy and the dumpling wrapper was perfection, mmmmmm. The noodles were also very, very good. I loved the flat, thick noodles and the dish was certainly generously spiced! It was a brilliant sized portion for the price and my other half was delighted to scoff the second half of my dish when he got home as I just couldn’t eat it all. So I mixed experience but definitely worthy of the 4 stars for the dumplings and noodles. I’d really like to use their delivery option again so I really hope the mix up with the timing was a one off.

My first visit to Dumpling Monkey, thanks to my Friend Cecilie! I ordered the boiled pork and chives dumplings and were awesome! I want to try rest of the dumpling variety and also other dishes of the menu. Price can’t be better 6£ for 10 dumplings! Definately I’m going to try again soon!

My second trip to dumpling monkey only this time… I sat. That’s right. No take away for me today, I decided to get the full treatment aka wonton soup. I must admit my takeaway dumplings were so lovely last time, that I entered dumpling monkey with pure confidence. I read through the super long menu, decided to stop reading round about the 6th line because I was hungry, ordered the wonton soup and a bubble tea, then got captivated by the subtitled Chinese drama on tv, and here I was. Back in Shanghai. Always a pleasure dumpling monkey. Never change! Or maybe, add more items on the menu!(Just kidding, please don’t).

Oh my goodness — yum! I went to Dumpling Monkey this afternoon with friends and left feeling super satisfied! We ordered a feast of dumplings(boiled and pot sticker), steamed buns, rice, braised beef, noodles and more. Literally everything was delicious! I have an confession… I’d never had these kind of dumplings or a steamed bun before today. But boy were these good ones to start on! There wasn’t anything on the table that I didn’t like. The staff were fab and the food came out speedily. At £10 a head including tip you really can’t go wrong. There isn’t much seating here, but the staff made the effort to reserve a table of 5 for us. It’s not fancy in here, but it is good authentic nosh! I will most certainly be back.

For what it is– I love this clean hole in the wall place. They’ve done a lot of work over the years to make it nice inside but it still can quiet quite chilly. I love their Tom Yum soup and dumplings. They also make a great bubble tea. If you are in the area for lunch then don’t miss out on their lunch trays which are hardy and cheap!

A lonely voice in the face of so many 5 stars reviews: I think Dumpling Monkey is OK. But not much more than that. My biggest problem is that I’m really not a fan of their dumplings and if you have them in your name then I want them to be great. The filling is OK but the outside manages to be both too glutenous and, if you order the pot sticker version, way too greasy. I’ve given them 2 tries now and the second time in only managed to eat 2 before before they were slightly turning my stomach. I wouldn’t say it’s all bad though. Their soups are really good, and the portions more than generous. On my last visit I ordered chicken noodle and my friend Tom Yan and both were super tasty. The staff are also friendly and helpful and the service fast. You order and pay at the till once you’ve made your choice and your food is brought out to you. On my latest trip we only had to wait a few minutes between ordering and the first of our food arriving. Very welcome as we were both hungry after a few beers at BrewDog! Now I’ve given it a couple of goes, Dumpling Monkey isn’t somewhere I’d run back to but as long as I remember just to order the tasty soup I could be lured there…

I’m finding it really hard to write this review when faced with the glowing reviews of other Unilocalers. I was not impressed. I was really hungry when I arrived and I wasn’t when I left, that is about the extent of it. It was relatively busy, but there were tables available despite it being lunch time. We went to go and take a seat on the back bench as it’s my preferred seat type, but were told we had to sit at the smaller table next to the till. We ordered Vegetarian Pot Sticker dumplings first, with pork Mooshu, and a chicken noodle soup. I was so unimpressed with the dumplings that my partner suggested getting the meat ones, so I ordered the pork and Chinese leaf dumplings… this didn’t improve matters. They are fried, which I love, but very mushy. I can see why people enjoy them, and my partner did and has brought the left overs home. But I prefer my dumplings a bit smaller and crispy, which these weren’t. I’ve always been meaning to try Mooshu and hadn’t, so maybe I’m just not a big fan, but yeah, it was quite bland and served in polystyrene trays. My boyfriend didn’t finish his soup but said it was«quite nice». We got a jasmine bubble tea. I wasn’t expecting to take a sip and have mussy berries in my mouth. That was unpleasant. It was quick, convenient, and relatively good value for money, but I probably won’t go back.

Dumpling heaven. I just love this place; cheap, authentic and fast service. The place is always busy but they never struggle to accomodate you and I like the no fuss ordering at the counter. When it comes to what to order the clue is in the title. Dumplings everytime. At 10 for about £5 you can’t complain. One plate is a meal in itself or good for two to share with another dish. I prefer boiled as they aren’t oily like the pot stickers. Pork is a good safe option and they are delicious. I always order a steamed bun too and at £1.50 for a bun you would be pushed to find a cheaper version anywhere else in Glasgow. And it’s a decent size. Soups and other dishes I haven’t enjoyed in the past as much. The meat isn’t good quality and you don’t get a lot but that should be expected for the price. Lots of flavour though. One bowl is enough for two to share if you get dumplings(and you should)

You have no idea how happy I am that I finally visited Dumpling Monkey! I’ve been trying to get here for so long now. Lately my mum and I have been on a bit of a dim sum binge, making a bunch of different dumplings and steamed buns at home so we thought, let’s see how the experts do it. We were not disappointed! Lunch the other day was pretty heavenly, filling my self up on the boiled vegetable dumplings as well as a flower roll and noodles. Between 3 of us we shared vegetable dumplings, beef dumplings(which I’m told were delicious), some steamed buns, a veggie dry noodle dish and a pork lunch tray. The portions are not small! We all left stuffed to the brims and for only £21 this seemed incredibly reasonable. We got a nice wee table by the window, and the staff were lovely although it was a busy lunch time. Each dish was brought out as it was ready, which was totally fine since we were sharing everything. There was also a nice selection of condiments on the table, meaning everyone could adjust to taste. The food it’s self was really good, loads of different flavours, subtle spicing, everything tasted very distinct. The texture or the dumpling wrapper on the boiled dumplings was perfect, it had a great bite but melted away as you ate. No chewy dough here! The vegetable filling was fresh, light and tasty. The dry noodle dish was super moreish, with a rich savoury sauce and perfectly cooked noodles. All in all it was pretty amazing, I can’t wait to get back here! Good food, amazing value and friendly, quick service!

Without doubt one of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow and very much in need of an updated review. If you ain’t been here yet… Well what the hell have you been doing with your time!?! Quirky and small with super friendly staff this place has fast become one of the must visit restaurants in a city filled with new eateries opening up(what feels like) every single day. Sitting in or take away you won’t be disappointed. Well except on Sunday when it’s closed. :-( Few recommendations for you. Pot sticker pork dumplings mushroom or cabbage… Or go crazy and have both. Dan Dan noodles with pork, pork char Sui with noodles or with rice. All dishes are amazing. This place is seriously awesome. You will not be disappointed! Get along now for a dumplingfest.

Boy, it feels so good to give a well-deserved update: — Five stars for the scrumptiously seasoned veggie potstickers. — Five stars for the kickin’ Kimchi Korean noodle soup. — Five stars for that dreamily tender flower roll steamed bun. Great value, generous portions and sweet service too! This is just THE place for the most perfect comfort food. Eating one of their dumplings is literally like a hug in a mouthful. Afterwards, I felt that feeling that comes only from a deeply satisfying meal; the foodie afterglow! So, Unilocal Glasgow has fallen head over heels for Dumpling Monkey. — And now so have I!

The plate of pot sticker dumplings filled with pork, mushroom and chives were the perfect comfort food for a grey Glasgow day. Stodgy and savoury. Faced with some particularly grim weather I decided to try a small bowl of chicken noodle soup too(which turned out to be quite big). All the food was tasty and served up ultra quick. This is basically a Chinese fast food café and a great place for a cheap meal. I can see myself back here soon to try the soup noodle dishes and bao zi(steamed buns).

Dumpling Monkey would have to do something seriously terrible to make me drop even one star, because their dumplings are just toooo good! Their pot stickers are without a doubt my favourite dumplings I’ve ever had! We also have the same initials so it’s totally meant to be. Obv. Since my last review I’ve returned quite a few times and also managed to order a couple of other dishes which weren’t dumplings — I do fully intend to try more in future as well! It’s just that the dumplings are so good(did I mention that?) and sometimes after a rubbish day at work, or when it’s pouring outside, or just because — Dumpling Monkey dumplings make everything better. After digging his heels in(a regular occurrence) I finally persuaded the bf to come with me and accidentally turned him into a bit of an addict. What a shame(!) And on one of our previous visits, we got a bit wild and ordered fried sauce noodles AND a flower roll along with a portion of dumplings each. This was a mistake. Not because the food was bad(obviously it was amazing, good grief those fried sauce noodles, yuuuum) but because there was just so much of it! So we’ve learnt to be a bit more restrained. Slightly. So I would say be careful how much you order, as the prices are so good you might not think you’ll get a lot for your money, but you seriously do! The only complaint I actually have about DM, also something Ms Debbie B has pointed out, is that it’s not open on Sundays. There has been more than one occasion(because I’m an idiot) where I’ve got really excited to go to Dumpling Monkey, only to remember that they don’t open on Sundays. Heartbreaking, I tells ya! But I suppose the staff probably have lives and everything, and don’t exist purely to make delicious grub. Sake. I do intend to come back for a(shock-horror) non-dumpling visit as they really do have so many dishes I’d still like to try… but it’ll be really difficult not to go straight for the pork, chive and mushroom pot stickers!

As I ponder the introduction of this review I’m saddened by the fact that Dumpling Monkey isn’t open on Sunday’s, and I really could go a wee takeaway for dinner. I finally managed to go here for a full meal, after months of «We still have to go to Dumpling Monkey!“s with my friend, and one, far gone takeaway portion of steamed dumplings. When my friend and I were seated we perused the menu for a bit, then wondered if it was table service or order at the counter. After a few more minutes chatting, and no one approaching us, we guessed it was order at the till. Now, BEPREPARED! When you go, to order, even if you are at the point where you could eat a scabby horse(or a Tesco lasagne!) order small to start. My friend and I had the pork pot stickers(fried dumpling) the steamed Flower Bun(like a steamed roll with spring onions on top) and I chose the seafood Tom Yum soup, while she the pork noodle soup. As you may observe from the pictures by soup arrived in a very beautiful cauldron! It was huge. The dumplings are 10 a portion, and the steamed buns were gigantic. I got through all my soup and flower bun,(my companion was defeated) and we ate a few dumplings. Along with the bubble teas we were for being rolled out the door. Thankfully we were allowed to take our leftovers home(next day’s lunch=amaaaaazing), which, was an absolute bonus given that the entire meal was only £25! If you want authentic, Asian cuisine, that’s a bit different from your usual satay or chow mein, then this place is the cat’s pyjamas! And so affordable that you really could eat yourself in to a happy food coma.

Came here for tea last night — totally loved the pot sticker dumplings! I ordered the spicy beef noodles, and blew my mouth off with the first bite. I love hot food, but this was crazy. I think I might have tried to eat too many chilli seeds with the beef and chilli oil at the beginning, because it looked so good. I had a steamed bun at the same time which kind of helped me manage, but couldn’t taste any great flavour in the noodles, so eventually stopped eating them because I don’t like my mouth to be burning unless it is for a tasty reason. As I said, I’m usually a fan of hot food, so I don’t know if it was just unlucky, or if the recipe was spicier than usual, or if that really is how hot it is supposed to be. They had a wee chilli next to dish on the menu to warn you, so I don’t want to blame dumpling monkey because heat is subjective, and I did enjoy everything up until then. There are some other really nice sounding noodle dishes, but a huge number of them are made with pork. I don’t eat pork, and asked if it would be possible to have one without, but it wasn’t. I respect that they are not willing to change items on their menu to suit customers, but there really need to be more veggie or at least non-pork options for me to come back again and up my review(which I’d love to do because everyone else seems to have had amazing experiences there including one of the people I went with on my first visit).

If I didn’t have dietary requirements and was happy to go wild ordering a selection of menu dishes I probably would have given them four stars. I had visited here once before as a vegan and asked about vegetarian options which had no egg or dairy and I remembered getting a bowl of pot sticker vegetable dumplings. My husband was adamant he got the wuhan noodles. On this occasion we were thrilled to see that they had now extended the size of the restaurant. He ordered the wuhan noodles again, then asked if they contained egg, which they did, so he ordered the wheat noodles with vegetables instead. It does say on the counter to mention any food allergies or intolerances on ordering, and I said I was vegetarian but didn’t eat egg or dairy, I was vegan, what could they suggest. The staff member only pointed to the noodles with vegetables. Then I asked if the vegetarian dumplings contained egg and she confirmed they didn’t. As I’d had these last time, I’ve never seen vegetarian dumplings in a Chinese supermarket containing dairy, I’d already said I didn’t eat dairy, and I don’t have a dairy allergy or intolerance I went with the presumption they’d be dairyfree too. The food was delicious and served very quickly. At £5.50 for 10 pot sticker dumplings it’s fantastic value. They have a huge menu and I would have been keen to try their bubble teas but I felt awkward getting into another conversation about ingredients.

Delicious. Cheap. Authentic. What more do you need?! A huge menu of soupy noodles, congee, and dumplings so you will be spoiled for choice… They also have a great lunchbox deal for £4.80. My friend and I ordered some potstickers, a duck soup noodle and a congee, along with bubble teas each. The congee portion was HUGE, and only about a fiver — we could have shared it. Same with the noodle bowl, both of which were delicious. The congee was subtle but had tons of chicken and mushroom in it to add texture. The highlight was the pot stickers — full of flavourful meat and a hot, juicy soup.(which I often forgot about and squirted all over the place on my first bite…). At a fiver for ten of them, I could have dined on about 4 portions of these and been very happy. We ate and drank abundantly for around 20 quid. And left some food behind. Get here for a Chinese feast!

This place totally rocks! Especially now that they’ve opened up the building and created more seating. It’s loads better in that aspect than it was last year when only a few people could manage to sit, while others were made to wait in a queue for the delicious food. I’m really happy about this addition! My boyfriend and I have been wanting to have a meal here for months, and finally decided to eat here Saturday before meeting some friends out. He had never been, so wasn’t sure what to expect and was excited about the variety of the menu. At first, we were just going to get some noodle soups, but it’s a dumpling restaurant, so we opted for both soups and dumplings. He ordered the Dan Dan, which is a spicy minced pork noodle soup and I ordered the beef spare ribs noodle soup. We also ordered the pork and Chinese greens pot stickers and a flower roll. The food was fresh and came out in due time, piping hot! My boyfriend really loved his soup and even added more chili to his(crazy man!) and the bit of my soup that he tried, he quite enjoyed as well! Very aromatic, he said. I tried his soup before he added more chili, and he was on the money with this one, it was so delicious! My soup was just as delicious, but in it’s own right and not spicy at all. Our dumplings were very tasty but a wee bit on the greasy side. We patted them off on some paper towel before eating them– I think next time we’ll get the boiled dumplings. My boyfriend took a Chinese cookery course and the filling of his wontons taste just like the mix that was in the dumplings. So delicious. The only thing we didn’t like was the flower roll. I’ve had it before, and for some reason remember it being good, but it really was bland and not worth getting. Next time, we’ll be getting a filled bun. The staff here are super friendly, with mom/grandma working the till and making us feeling really welcomed. We will be back for sure!
