Yes, Bennets. I reckon it must be something of an institution. It’s been here long enough. It’s even survived a fire or two and came rising out of the smoke with a fantastic massive marble(or imitation marble front) complete with classic naked man inscription/decoration. This, to me, is the best thing about Bennets. Inside, it is very spacious with hardly any seats and folk bopping about like maddies everywhere. As for that, I’m not entirely sure what the walls etc look like in… Every time we’ve been in it’s been extremely late and we’re been extremely drunk. This combination with hardly any lights bar a few pink filtered ones and the odd dash of bright light on the dance floor mean that I didn’t actually manage to take in the surroundings all that well. Anyhoo, the bar is usually very well staffed and the staff are speedy so half your night is not spent standing waiting at the bar. Additionally, the drinks are pretty cheap. Maybe not for ‘your drink’ — I always manage to somehow pick the most expensive one e.g. Bacardi and orange — but they have good deals on vodka, alco-pops and other popular drinks. As Marj has already mentioned, the entry price at weekends is also a good deal and so is there cloakroom. Perfect, for when you want to go mad on the dance floor without trailing a massive handbag around with you. I do have fond memories of Bennets during my first proper break up from a long term(and live in) boyfriend. This place did me the world oh good and got me on the fast track to wellness in no time. However, I have been back since then and it can be just a little bit OTT for me in here. Although, admittedly, I am more of a quiet pub, some grub and pints of Addlestones girl; not a high heel and skimpy dress wearing dance mad girl. So, please keep this in mind and by all means if you love a mad, wild and dance filled night out Bennets is well worth trying out.

Oh my Christ, Bennets! Any night I’ve had in Bennets has been mad! It’s usually been at the weekend where it’s been positively rammed, but one sombre Sunday sticks in my mind where I had to fight a guy off my pal before he took him home! I can’t disclose any further information of this torrid tale in fear it’s too rude for Unilocal, but it was nevertheless an unforgettable and indeed hilarious night! Whether you love it or hate it, Bennets offers that sort of mental night, with blaring pop on the upper floor and banging hardcore dance music(mainly from the 90s) on the lower floor. I am usually incredibly drunk by the time I get here but from what I do remember(!) booze is fairly cheap, entry fee is on the cheaper side even at the weekends, and it’s a nonpretentious place to let your hair down and go bloody nuts. With its low maintenance interior, huge dance space and carefree clubbers, you’d be hard pushed to find a club less self conscious than Bennets is. People in here don’t give a rat’s ass what other people think of them so the dancing is loud and proud, and despite the fact that the experience is,(I hate to say it) a bit garish, it’s so much fun when you actually go! I can’t stress enough how little people will notice if you dance like someone with ADHD on the dancefloor, and is definitely an experience if you’re wanting to explore the colourful gayscene of Glasgow!

Ahh Bennets, Glasgow’s «longest running gay disco». Who doesn’t love a gay disco? The camp as Christmas Bennet’s nightclub has two dance floors, the upper level plays cheesy pop and the lower plays dance tunes(cheesy dance tunes) and there are three bars. There are some good deals on booze such as any drink for £1 on a Monday and Wednesday and there are usually some really fun events on. A few years ago I went to watch a heat of Mr Gay UK and it was a hilarious night as we watched these gorgeous young men parade around in tiny pants and we had to keep reminding ourselves that they are gay! They’ve also had some minor celebrities come and perform such as Liz from Atomic Kitten and and Lisa Scott Lee from Steps! Bennets is always absolutely rammed on nights like these! It is a young crowd who frequents Bennets and the atmosphere is just total OTT fun! Style wise Bennets has lots of open space and exposed bricks and not much in way of seating areas but with the camptastic music you’ll be dancing til you drop so you won’t need seats anyway!
