It’s so yummy!!! Came here for a meal before a concert and we were craving good Chinese. The food here did not disappoint. I brought two Chinese friends along and go their seal of approval. A plate of 12 dumplings easily make a meal and make it easy to share. The sides are fantastic as well. The service is great! Only thing I didn’t like was the dough was a bit thick for the dumplings but still super yummy.

I’m still not really convinced by Dumpling Inn. While in town, my dad wanted some soup with vegetables in it. So, having seen someone order soup before, I suggested we go to Dumpling Inn for soup. My parents agreed. We were seated right away and were asked for our drink order. Meanwhile, while waiting for our drinks, two large groups of people came in an had their orders taken before we were asked for our food order. Finally, someone came over to take our food order. I ordered vegetables and noodles and garlic bak choi to share. My dad ordered the vegetable noodle soup with some NE style dumplings while my mom ordered the chili beef noodle soup. All the people around us received their food years before we did, and when our food finally started coming out, my order was wrong and i had to wait another 10 minutes for my correct order. My parents weren’t Dumpling Inn’s biggest fan after having eaten at Dumpling Monkey in the west end. The taste just wasn’t there and everything was rather bland. I’m still a huge fan of the garlic pak choi, even though this time, it was really salty. My noodles were basically like a takeaway noodle dish as far as taste and quality. It really wasn’t that great. Service was really slow and my dad ended up getting garlic water dumped on his glasses and hand as they were trying to pick up around us. For whatever reason, they felt they needed to clean our dishes the second we were done, and wipe down the table before we even paid. That was a little off putting. I was able to get us a 10% discount as we paid in cash and I’m a student. So, that was nice. I think if the idea of going for dumplings or soup comes up again, I’d much rather go to Dumpling Monkey, even though it’s a little farther away than Dumpling Inn.

See, I think my Dumpling-buddy Carolyn E has captured my feelings about this place exactly. I was super excited when we had made plans to get dumplings and try out this place(Dumpling Monkey would be our usual Dumpling haunt). I was looking forward to sitting down, in a cool restaurant(after the outside world was horribly sticky and stuffy and had pollen in the air that made Carolyn sneeze like nobody’s business. Shame, I felt bad for her. Eventually my nose started scratching too though) to dumplings and cold water. We were greeted very quickly and the waitress seemed over eager to get our orders taken. Unfortunately, the«iced water» we ordered turned out to be pretty standard non-chilled water. I like that the menu is very reduced, as I am always a little suspicious of restaurants with a menu that is excessively large. As mentioned, we ordered the three different kinds of dumplings(fried, boiled and NE Style — but what does the NE stand for?!), with a different filling in each(who knows what those were — one was chicken and mushroom — I think that’s the one that also had sweetcorn). My personal favourite were the NE style dumplings. The boiled ones were a little bland and dough-y, the fried ones were disappointing, especially since the woman next to us received wonderfully crispy looking dumplings were as ours couldn’t have spent more than 5 seconds in a not-hot pan. Generally, they were a little flavourless — there was definitely no way of distinguishing between the fillings. I wasn’t keen on the cinnamon taste that came with the boiled ones, but it must have just been the Chinese five spice used in the filling. Dipping them into the soy sauce didn’t really help either. The one thing I did very much enjoy was the Garlic Pak Choi. No no, we mean GARLIC pak choi. So much garlic, not overpowering in taste, but oh so, so, so delicious! Here’s my summary: meh dumplings, warm water, amazing Pak choi. Do not forgot to bring a student card to claim your 10% off, but only on cash payments.

So upon trying to satisfy my craving for something soupy and Chinese, I reckon Dumpling Inn would do me justice. I dragged my partner here so I can have some yummy Chinese food to tame the wild growling beast that is my tummy. The space looks kinda dull, but it’s to be expected if it’s a sorta fast food place. It was pretty empty too when we arrived … Strange for a Saturday night. Greeted by 2 eager waitresses(who were so enthusiastic and couldn’t wait to take our order and serve us), we got our menus and were sat down. We ordered the soup pork and prawn dumplings(6 for £4), grilled vege dumplings 6 for £4), soy bean paste noodles(£7.50) and some jasmine tea(£2) on the side. I really liked the dumplings very much! Though I think I gravitated towards the grilled ones a bit more, so yum! The soy bean paste noodles were pretty good too though a wee bit on the saltier side. It’s good if eaten with the soup provided. Between 2 people, this meal was huge, delicious and affordable as heck! I was stuffed at the end of the night. My only concern about the place is that it’s space is pretty uninviting and the waitresses were just far too eager to serve us and check up on us(sometimes hovering but I’d break the awkwardness by laughing at them hahahaha). Didn’t expect much from the atmosphere so my experience was ok. Pretty good for food indeed! Big portions and affordable!

Delicious dumplings ! We missed a Unilocal hangout dinner there and were so tempted by the pictures and reviews we knew we had to make a trip. So before a Unilocal event we popped in for a «light bite». We got a serving of boiled vegetable dumplings and a soup of chicken dumplings. Both were delicious! Nothing like homemade dumplings!!! Delicious! Well priced and friendly. We will be back for sure.

We were looking for a light bite that was quick on a cold day, and Dumpling Inn was just what the doctor ordered. I’m no dumpling connoisseur, but dumplings probably don’t get much better than this. These are so tasty! The wife and I shared a plate of boiled vegetable dumplings and a boiled chicken dumpling soup. I loved both of them, but I think my favourite of the two was the vegetable dumplings. The chicken dumplings came in a nice broth that was absolutely perfect when it was below freezing outside… it’s rare that you get a comfort food that isn’t all that bad for you. We were gutted that we didn’t have time(or tummy space) for more. Oh… and we were out the door for less than a tenner for our wee bite. I can’t wait to come back here and will update my review when I get a chance to try a few more things.

A huge thank you to Austen M. for deciding we must invade the Dumpling Inn and eat all the dumplings and I mean all the dumplings. Nom nom nom!!! Thanks to Austen M & Trudie M. as they managed to book us a private room downstairs, keep us rowdy Glaswegian dumpling munching Unilocalers out the way of the majority of east Asian clientele upstairs. The staff were amazing and so helpful and friendly. We managed to order every dumpling off the menu and have enough for all of us to try at least a few of each kind. One kind I wouldn’t have even thought of ordering ended up being my favourite and this was the NE dumpling, part steamed part pot sticker, so soft but crispy on top. Delicious!!! I opted to have the soup with even more dumplings. Yum but oh so filling. I couldn’t believe there was option to have 12 steamed dumplings in the soup. I couldn’t even finish the 6. Well, maybe due to consumption of many dumplings before main. Hehe! I would definitely go back and I would love to try something else from their excellent choices on the menu. Everything about the visit was spot on. For the amount of people and amount of dumplings and food we ordered they were spot on and food came out in a reasonable time. We also had our own personal waitress so we were able to order drinks quickly. Thanks also to Briony C. who also gave us the gift of Unilocal chopsticks to top off the evening. It was truly an awesome Unilocal Dumpling Day. I highly recommend and can’t wait to go back. I also hope the Unilocal Dumpling Day becomes an annual event. If not I’m happy with quarterly or even monthly. Mmmm dumplings!

First up, a big thanks to event organiser, Austen M, for encouraging us Unilocalers to indulge in his currently foody addiction. We were seated in the private dining area downstairs(who knew it even existed!), and attended to by a couple of really cheerful and helpful staff. I’ve never really had much in the way of dumplings, but have now discovered a few things: 1. Chicken curry dumplings are phenawesomal! 2. I really like grilled or fried dumplings — the crispyness does it for me. 3. I want to try NE dumplings. 4. I really am not a fan of boiled dumplings — they’re kinda wet and slimy and are now on the list of things that make me go uuuurgh! I also ordered chilli chicken noodles. These were really tasty but didn’t remotely taste chilli-ish. Big thanks to Briony for providing the Unilocal chopsticks — I’m practising with Hariibo! I would have no issue with going back here sometime.

Now, as many will tell you, I am a bit dumpling mad. I take cravings for them, and there are so few places in Glasgow handy to my usual haunts that make them. Thusly, when a Unilocal Dumpling Day was arranged by Austen, I was positively giddy at the prospect! We were met by friendly faces, ushering us to the downstairs part of the restaurant which we pretty much had all to ourselves. There were quite a few Unilocalers, and I’m sure we made the waitresses nervous. I don’t think they’d had to attend to such a large group yet, as the restaurant is not long open. There were soooo many dumplings on offer! Four basic flavours, but prepared in four different ways. There was chicken and mushroom, veggie, pork, and prawn arriving grilled, steamed, boiled and NE style. And as an added bonus, there was that day’s two special dumplings… chicken curry, and haggis. They were all delectable dumplings of deliciousness, even that one boiled chicken and mushroom that sort of exploded when I bit into it! Got me and even squirted Rocco a little. XD Even though I was full on dumplings, I still ordered a main anyway! This was probably a mistake, but I really wanted to try out their soup ramen. I ordered the grilled pork chop noodles. I must say, the meat was tender and flavourful, and the noodles were good, but I found the soup base a little blander than others to which I’ve become accustomed. I added a wee bit of chilli oil, and that gave it a little kick. Still tasty, and waaaay too much for me to finish. I was still full the next morning! All through the munching, you could see the waiting staff running up and down the stairs to get sauces and drinks and whatever else we asked for. They got it wrong a couple of times for drinks at our table, but they were quick to correct any mistakes and were very apologetic. I think they did very well, all things considered. We were certainly keeping them fit at any rate!!! I think I foresee another visit in my future. The dumplings pretty much guarantee it. :P

Hopefully dumplings aren’t the new burgers. Dumplings are truly amazing things, and depending on the filling and the cooking method they can taste totally different each time you have them(they are also a great can’t be bothered cooking dinner — buy a bag from Seewoo!). It now seems that everyone is picking up on this, and we now have 2 dumpling restaurants in Glasgow. There is definitely scope to expand this, but I just hope this doesn’t become the next trendy thing that takes over everything. The dumplings here are fantastic: there are essentially 4 flavours, which can be cooked in 4 different ways: in a soup, fried, steamed and NE style, which is basically them cooked long and flat like a sausage. There are also a couple of specials which will probably change — we had chicken curry and haggis when we were there. Of the styles, NE was probably the biggest success — very similar to fried, but the difference in the way they are made definitely makes a difference. All of the flavours(seafood, pork & chive, chicken and veggie) were lovely, with the pork and chive probably winning out. The main courses didn’t quite hit the same mark. I had the chinese 5 spice beef noodle, which was pretty salty — there was loads of it, which was great, but it didn’t grab me quite as much as the dumplings. All of the staff were really nice, and handled a big crowd as well as can be expected for somewhere that probably doesn’t handle big crowds as a habit — yeah, some things weren’t perfect, but you can’t really blame them. If you’re in Sauchiehall Street and fancy a quick and tasty bite to eat that isn’t a burger, this is definitely somewhere to think about. I’d maybe not make it a 2 course meal, but there is a lot to recommend. Well worth a shot.

I’m the first one to admit that I have pretty simple tastes when it comes to food(I blame a childhood adoration of crispy pancakes!) but when I was recently inducted into the world of the *dumpling*(cue fanfare!) I was immediately hooked. So when I spotted there was a Unilocal event being organised to try out a new dumpling place, I knew that I had to be there. Dumpling Inn is deceptive in size — with a downstairs function type area myself and Gordon were fooled into thinking we’d arrived early, not realising the rest of the group were hiding downstairs. When we made it down, we were greeted attentively by the staff and settled down to the matter in hand. The dumplings were ordered by the larger table, while we made sure to order the specials as well(chicken curry & haggis dumplings) and quickly got served with our little parcels of yum. The chicken curry ones were absolutely to die for — this is a must for anyone who comes here. The haggis ones, not so much — the taste was good, but it was just a bit of a cloying texture. Personally, I don’t really enjoy my dumplings steamed — I much prefer them when they have a bit of colour and crunch to them, and with more steamed dumplings on order than not, I didn’t have as many as I normally would(probably not bad for the waistline, to be fair). Afterwards, Gordon and I shared a main which to be honest, I don’t have many lasting memories of — I didn’t have much but it was nice enough, just not a patch on the dumplings. I will definitely be going back here again — apparently the NE style dumplings are a must so there is definitely a return trip to Dumpling Inn in my future.

It’s always good when somewhere new opens up, doubly so when they are doing something a little bit different. As far as I know this is the second ‘Dumpling’ eatery which is a great sign, and adds to what is fast becoming a very eclectic selection of foods available on Sauciehall Street. We arrived a little early and looking in couldn’t see any of the people we were meeting so we wandered past to get a drink elsewhere only to find out, via Unilocal, that there was a downstairs and that’s where everyone was hiding! We scurried back and headed downstairs. The restaurant is pretty basic, but that kind of thing doesn’t bother me as long as the food is good. As there were a lot of us we ended up ordering, pretty much, a couple of every dumpling dish available. Steamed, pot stickers/fried and NE style which I’d never heard of before. At this point I will point out that there were two long tables of us, table 1 did all the ordering and, apparently, most of the eating as those of us on table 2 were handed the ‘leftovers’ which were mostly steamed dumplings. Very few of the pot stickers and none of the NE style made their way to our table. I’m blaming whoever organised it… ;) I like all kinds of dumplings so it didn’t really bother me but not really knowing the contents of the dumplings, and the fact that most of the people at our table preferred pot stickers… well let’s just say that I ended up with the lion share of the steamed dumplings and they were very tasty! They had a couple of specials available, a chicken curry one which I loved, and a haggis dumpling which I didn’t. I love haggis but I do wish people would stop trying to make it into something it’s not. It is not pakora(it absorbs too much of the cooking oil) and it’s definitely not a great filling for dumpling as the consistency of the dough just doesn’t sit well with haggis. I digress. All the other fillings I tried, chicken and prawn, pork and chive, vegetable, chicken and mushroom, were all delicious. Clare and I decided to share a main course, which I was glad of having eaten most of the dumplings laid before me, and split a shredded chilli chicken dish which was tasty, obviously freshly prepared, but a little on the bland side. I’d prefer more of a sweet sauce but the upside is that this way people can choose and manage their own leave of heat with the chilli oil provided. A few bottles of Tsing Tao(they have Chang too) and I was nicely full. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the bill smaller than I thought it would be, and it was a fun evening!

I LOVE dumplings — they’re probably one of my favourite foods — and my heart nearly burst with happiness when I heard about Dumpling Inn opening. A second dedicated dumpling restaurant in Glasgow?! Happy days indeed. I was impressed from the outset with the super warm welcome we received as we were shown downstairs to the private dining area. Upstairs(ground level) is a pretty casual dining space which fits maybe 30 people, and downstairs there was two long tables of 10 set up for us. They have red/white and rosé wine available, as well as Tsing Tao beer, plus soft drinks and Jasmine tea. I stuck with the rosé which was £3.80 for a 175ml glass and tasted pretty decent. Onto the dumplings! They have the standard options of boiled and grilled, but they also do soup dumplings, and NE style, which I’d not heard of before. These are more like a rice paper roll and were definitely my favourite of the night, just because they were a little different. Filling options include pork and cabbage, chicken and mushroom, pork prawn and celery and vegetable. To be honest I didn’t have much of a flavour preference, they were all pretty tasty! We tried two of the specials — haggis and chicken curry and while I wouldn’t rush to get these again it was nice to try something pretty unusual! For mains I ordered the chilli chicken rice(£7.80) which was a huge portion, although definitely lacking a sauce! It was a little bland because of that and I actually wonder whether they left the sauce off mine. I added some chilli oil to give it a bit of a kick. Service was great, super friendly and helpful. There was one dish we ordered which we didn’t get(shredded potatoes) but that didn’t matter too much. I found the prices to be pretty reasonable(especially as I had a few wines while we were there) and would definitely head back here for dumplings again if I was in the area.

Last night we had a Unilocal group visit to check out Dumpling Inn and enjoyed some great food in the private dining area. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. Right through from making the large booking to on the night when they were super attentive and had servers just for us. We started with sharing a variety of boiled, potsticker and NE dumplings. Everything I tried tasted great and was cooked really well. Standouts were the longer NE type which I had never tried before and the chicken curry dumplings which were also a first for me. Dumpling cravings satisfied for another day, we moved on to the mains. I had chilli beef with rice and it was lovely, but super spicy. The beef was cooked to perfection though as it was really tender and melted in your mouth. I also nabbed some of Rocco’s pak choi in garlic which was very very tasty. All in it was a great night, with some tsing Tao beer, nice food, great company and plenty of shared laughs. Cheers everyone for coming along.

Ok so I might have a dumpling addiction. What a wonderful little dumpling place this is! To start the staff were incredible so attentive right from the moment we decided to book. With a small menu it was still a difficult choice. We ordered all the different types of dumplings to share. Little white fluffiness filled with exciting flavors. The NE style I must say were my fave. Crispy ness but still soft. Cooked to perfection. Next up we all decided to have our mains. I went for the chilli beef and spicy it was!!! The tenderness of the HUGE chunks of beef — I can only say mmmmmmm. I really like the friendly family feel of this place. I will be back soon.

So we went here for the UYE set up for us by the lovely Austen M and i have to say it was fabulous! Started off with a variety of dumplings from boiled to fried to grilled and such with a variety of flavours. The serving staff went above and beyond with setting this up as they gave us the private dining area and on the night they were scampering up and down the stairs like zebedee with a sugar high! All the dumplings were cooked to a tee my personal favorite being the NE grilled dumplings which were to die for!!! Then came some mains of which i had the chilli beef with rice which, for once, actually had adecent bit of spice in it. Naturally i added some lovely chilli oil to increase said spice but a welcome surprise indeed. Food was lovely, rice cooked well and the meat tender with a variety of veg, textures and a spicy tasting sauce to die for! Well done these guys!

This little place opened around the corner from my flat and I had meant to go for a few weeks: thanks to our wonderful team of Elite Unilocalers who organised a dumpling outing, I now had the perfect excuse to go and try it. First of all, I arrived late and completed missed the dumpling part. So I guess I am only giving half of a review here since the place’s specialty is obviously dumplings. Second piece of warning, I am a bit of a Chinese food snob and there are very few places in Glasgow that stand high in my esteem in this respect. So I arrived late, and went straight into the main along with everyone else. I raved on the peanuts that were still sitting on the table, and ordered a plate of ‘hand made’ fried chilli chicken noodles. After sending back my drink because they had gotten it wrong, and waiting quite a while(it was very busy and there was a lot of us), we got our dishes. Well first of all, if there was chilli in my noodles, it surely was not spicy at all: I had to ask for extra chilli sauce(which turned out to be chilli oil). Second, there was no sauce at all with the noodles, which resulted in them sticking together and me having to ask for extra soy sauce(which came in a tiny baby plate, and only just about two spoonfuls of it… When I go soy sauce, I go all out, so that was a bit disappointing as well). Coming back from 4 hours of sport, I think I could have pretty much eaten anything, and I did eat almost all my plate, which in all fairness was really big, but overall, I was not very impressed and would have wished it to be much more bursting with flavours. I must say however that staff was friendly, price decent, and that the ingredients seemed really fresh. And then again, my standards are high in terms of Chinese food, and the place was actually packed with Chinese people, which should be an indication of quality!

Probably not the best place for dumplings/noodles. I found their dumplings/pot stickers quite oily and bland, however their noodles were quite good I must add — only downside was the beef, it was just so chewy that I couldn’t eat it. I understand that it is newly opened so maybe a couple months down the line they will have improved. their menu was very small as well so you weren’t spoiled for choices.

A trip to Argos is in order. We’re on a dumpling and noodle soup bender at the mo, so decided to try Dumpling Inn as it’s still new and shiny. My first thought was it’s pricey, my 2nd was they’re bending over backwards to serve us. My 3rd, Damn it’s cold in here and my 4th, pretty darn tasty. So a mixture of moods. We ordered 12 pork dumplings(£7.50) and 1 large pork chop noodle soup(£7.50) to share for lunch. They make their own noodles here, so you don’t get a choice. They’re well made Shanghai wheat noodles(a bit fatter than spaghetti) and with the broth and cut up pork chop, pretty tasty. The fried dumplings are also homemade and crackingly good. The shell is thinly rolled with just the right amount of minced pork filling. Dipped in vinegar or sweet chilli, they do the business. Great service on the day, although our waitress needed an English interpreter to take our order which I found amusing. T.B.H it’s probably geared for the Chinese students and growing community. No bad thing, but the prices are £4 more expensive than say Dumpling Monkey for the two dishes which may cause some to vote with their wallets? I also found the interior cold(not the look, the actual temperature) and with no visible sign of heating I hope they nip to Argos to buy a convector for the winter. :-\ So the sums: Dumplings better, prices worse, service and air temperature the same as the competition. Will we be back? Me? Yes, with a jacket coz the dumplings are crazily good. Her? Yes, when they bring prices down AND with a jacket.

Could dumplings be the fad or food trend to quash the burger uprising? Only time will tell, but I’m seeing more and more dumpling type places opening up in Glasgow, and I for one am happy about that. I really love these little crescent shaped, stodgy pockets filled with meaty, wondrous concoctions. From the wonderful textures, the juicy innards and the lovely aromas, there is nothing more satisfying than tucking into a plateful. At Dumpling Inn they come either grilled or steamed(menu says boiled though). I opted for the steamed pork, prawn and celery ones and I thought they were excellent. Not too heavy and delicately flavoured. Dipping sauce wise we were only given a sweet chili dip and I was expecting to see more traditional options like a spicy chili oil and soy-vinegar dip. Maybe they forgot, but these never arrived anyhoo :( These guys also serve up massive bowls of hot steamy soupy noodles witha choice of meats or veg. I opted for the vegetable noodle soup which came packed with pak choi, Chinese mushrooms, celery,(white beetroot?) and tofu. It was perfect for a cold Autumn’s night. In fact I was actually sweating by the end of the meal as it was so hot! Décor wise this place is very minimal, informal and down to earth. Great for a no-frills, no-fuss and inexpensive meal. With regular daily specials, some of which very traditional(like jelly fish, xo dishes) I can totally see myself coming back here time and time again to get my dumpling /noodle fix.
