Just a couple of blocks past the high street is this nondescript gem of a lunch spot. My dad makes soup from scratch every week so I was on the hunt during our visit for places that wouldn’t disappoint him. They make all their soups from scratch, along with their sandwich fillings which change daily. My dad is very particular with his soup-and he loved this. The soup portions were generous and the sandwich fillings were flavourful and unique(I had roasted chicken with a spicy sauce). We got there around 11:30 and missed the lunch rush-by 12 it was still easy getting a table but there was a long line of people grabbing take out. Great place to grab a quick, nourishing lunch away from the bustle of the high street.

I had my jacket potato cherry popped here, and I think I liked it! I certainly won’t ever think of baked potatoes the same way again after the monstrosity I tried(and failed) to devour at Fressh. Located barely off John’s Square, just south of the municipal building, proprietor Nigel’s shop is airy, bright, and offers wi-fi and caffeine in various forms. In short, it’s a comfortable place to nip in for a wee nibble and some quiet laptop time in the mornings. Once lunchtime rolls around, it’s a whole different story — the shop is rammed with local office employees and finding a seat becomes a turf war*. The soup and salad special for ~£6 is an absurd amount of food, but well worth some investigation as the offerings change on a regular basis. Given the massive assortment of possible potato toppings, you’d do well to just ask the staff to make selections on your behalf. If, like me, you’re not very picky, you’re bound to end up with a plate full of deliciousness and a belly full of joy.

The Fressh café & coffee shop serves freshly made soup and made to order sandwiches-choose your desired bread, hot or cold. Other offerings include cakes, fruit pots, and seeds with chocolate. Interior design note: the counter is a very tactile slice of tree. What they do they do well. I like it so I’m sharing it.

The great thing about Glasgow is that all of the best bits are scattered about. Byres, Merchant City and the Burrell collection involve a bit of a trek and maybe a hunt to discover. Welcome to Glasgow! Fressh is a bit of a find. A sandwich and coffee place that serves some stunning stuff and is on a street I only know due to the tax office. So, you have to look. But here is the great part — there is no trek involved. Find yourself on the Queen street station– George square area — you’re bloody there! Save yourself from Greggs or station food and get your butt in here. You will thank yourself and will discover another little Glasgow treasure.

Tum tee tum, off to Fressh i go, la la la… Hey! Wait a minute, somethings different in here. Yes Chris, yes it is. So here goes. New owners and a fressh(see what i did there!) coat of paint means that this already cool and handy wee joint has taken on a far more polished and cosy feel. Gone are the rough edges to be replaced with… eh… some not rough edges? Worth checking this place out if you were a fan, I’m sure that the changes are actually for the better. Great wee coffee, free wifi and a nice selection of cakes, food and other wee coffee shop type stuff. Oh, almost forgot. The music in here today was nothing short of fookin fantastic. Van the Man, the Stones… awesome.

Fressh food, fresh feeling! I love the soup from here and the yummy scrummy breads, doesn’t everything just taste a million times better when you know you are making your body a better place to live! This is the Cosmopolitan detox for those who want to stay young forever, or at least on the inside. Well Fressh can provide you with this, with milk thistle, ginseng and passion flower to add to your juice! What even is passion flower? Sounds good for you anyway. I take all my friends here when we are around the area. Love Fressh for its fresshness!!!

Fressh have got it right — everything they make is ‘fressh’, from the sandwiches to the amaaaaaaaazing juices(mmmmmmmm! the ‘daily detox’ definitely does what it says on the tin, and it’s tasty AND you feel good for drinking it. Win-win-win!). It’s never too busy, and it’s really relaxed even though it’s just off busy George Square. A lovely quiet spot to sit back and enjoy some food, or a juice.
