Gallus is a bit of a strange place, it almost has an air of a chain pub about it but with a much better choice of beers and usually less annoying clientèle(although I must admit there were a couple of annoyingly loud folk in the last night I was there). I’ve been in several times over the years and have always had a decent night while there. It’s a pretty decent sized bar with plenty of seats available, there’s only a few times I’ve been in and not been able to snag a table. The choice of beers on tap isn’t too bad, with a few nicer lagers on sale but it’d be nice to see some good ales there too. It’s with their choice of bottled beers that Gallus really gets my attention. I’m great lover of Belgian beers, especially of the Trappiste persuasion, and Gallus stocks all my favourites. Perhaps that’s the secret to why I’ve enjoy myself there, my experiences were always through the filter of 10% abv Chimay Blue. I’ve pretty only ordered beers while in Gallus but the choice of spirits and wine etc. seems decent too. I remember spotting a reasonable range of gins last time I was at the bar. They also have a pool table through in the back of the bar, although it’s always busy so you might have a bit of a wait if you want a game. Overall, not a bad place to stop for a drink, especially since you can usually get a seat…

Gotta say, back in the day when I was a regular around the West End, Gallus was always place I would head for, because they had nachos and(I’m almost ashamed of this) Budweiser on draft. Yes, I was one of THOSE people, that thought«pinta Bud mate» was the height of sophistication. Dearie me. The Budweiser tap may have gone now, and my tastes have changed — I had a pint of the wonderfully named Thrappledouser the last time I visited this week — but Gallus pretty much hasn’t. It’s been touched up here and there, but the essence of the pub is the same as it always was… and that, friends, is a good thing. It’s a fine example of a very good pub that knows it’s audience. It’s not fancy, it’s not a dive, it sits firmly in the middle. All are welcome, all are comfortable. What more could you want? Except a mind eraser to remove the memories of thinking Budweiser was the best drink on the planet… *shudder*

This was my first visit to Bar Gallus so was looking forward to checking it out. I had wanted to visit it when it was Solid Rock West as I like the Solid Rock Café in town. I think because it’s a bit out the way for me I never made the journey. This was the marvellous idea of Miss Angela B. who made a suggestion about a wee Unilocal night out to a quiz. Gathering some of the Unilocal peeps from all corners of Glasgow and putting our wee heads together to become the all powerful Unilocal brain, we headed on down to the quiz night run by Sir James. OK so maybe we weren’t a big powerful brain but we certainly had a good laugh. We were in the lead for most of the night, so not bad. I liked Bar Gallus, I liked the atmosphere and the décor was bright. I thought at first it was dead but it certainly filled up and this was only a Wednesday night. It must get pretty busy on the weekend. Oooh the added bonus is they sell fruit beer, hello! Unfortunately I was driving, school night, so soft drinks it was. Next time! The quiz was excellent and Sir James(I’m sure he’s related to Harry Hill) had it spot on, making it a really enjoyable evening. It wasn’t too slow or too fast and had plenty of good banter, he certainly has a few funny bones to give you a good giggle. Its just a gutter we didn’t win. Och it’s all about the experience. Right?

A pleasant surprise. A quasi-studenty style gaff with great seating and a well-stocked(and nae too expensive) bar. Only hit this place on quiz night(Wed) which was a joy, super lively and full of decent folk. Would go back, the gallus soul that I am.

I popped into Gallus on a weekend evening for the first time in a while and the first thing I realized was how dated it seemed and how bad their air extract system was. Yup, a room full of beer guzzling blokes can generate a lot of gas, I tell thee! If it wasn’t for the fact it was totally peeing outside, this pub may not have made it onto our mini pub crawl adventure of Partick. Beer selection was pretty poor, especially considering the variety of good bars in the area. Ambiance, a bit odd and the fact that it was 98% male even stranger. On the plus side, they have some pool tables and a proper good pub quiz midweek.

Firstly, this bar has pool table very chilled mixed bar. So if you enjoy a game you can relax while getting your ass kicked by local sharks! It also has nice selection of beers. You can also pick own music wall jukebox. Always think of this bar as good meeting point for date or friends to relax and go on from there or stay! Good bar better than most and has promotions on beers most weeks.

Love this pub. The spacing an seating is the best I’ve seen. Plus has a pool table! Service has never been a problem the times I’ve been in and the locals are a good bunch. Even allow pet dogs in. Not a regular but if I stayed in the area I would be. Recommend.

Gallus is a good, juicy Scots word used to describe someone who is a bit gregarious and likes to walk on the wild side. This pub, although being tucked away on a quiet corner where Church St meets Dumbarton Road, lives up to its name by having a lively atmosphere. Brightly lit and with booths tucked away like little bunkers on each side of the room, you can get yer chat on or have a wee dance to a local band in equal measure. Bands use this space to play quite often — there’s a makeshift stage area by the door. This usually draws in a mixed bunch of people, from young cubs to Papa bears(that actually sounds a lot sleazier than I intended, I apologise!) There’s a decent selection of booze and the surroundings are nice. But Gallus, for all its prime location, doesn’t have the synthesized, pretentious attitude of a style bar, thus making it permeable to all who walk her way. A lovely place to warm your tootsies over a wee whisky this winter!

Gallus is a great bar. Great rock music on the box ‚… Friendly staff; good prices and not too many students which in the west end is fantastic … The best bar in the west end bar none

Bar Gallus is a pub rooted firmly in the earth. Unlike other newer West End bars, it completely abandons all aspirations of style. Instead, its aims are simple; to provide Partick locals and visitors with a decent place to sip a pint in unpretentious surroundings. That’s not to say Bar Gallus is a grubby watering hole more suited to old men and their weekly bridge game. It is clean and comfortable with cosy leather seating. The live music on a Sunday night is definitely worth a visit.

When this place was the dreadful Bar Zoo, it did a roaring trade from the 16 – 20 year old market. When it was the Solid Rock West, it was a popular haunt for the 16 – 20 year olds dressed in black market. However, thankfully Bar Gallus has proven to be a better looking and better run establishment which has worked hard to attract a far more desirable crowd in a notoriously difficult spot for bars. The problem lies with its situation on Church St, just off the Byres Road and Dumbarton Road beaten tracks and in a relatively barren stretch for passing trade. The opening of curry house, Balbir’s, next door undoubtedly helped but Gallus deserves to be successful because it is a decent pub in its own right. Unrecognisable from its previous incarnations, the attractive bar is at its best on a Sunday when regulars sit quietly with the day’s papers, while others watch football on their excellent screens. There’s also a pool table if you’re so inclined, and a superb blues night which is rapidly gaining a strong reputation. Having now survived in the area for several years, word is clearly spreading about Gallus’s unpretentious and reasonably priced offering. Long may it continue.

Just finished your late afternoon lunch at the nearby breakfast joy that is Tribeca? Finally managed to drag yourself from the second hand Aladdin’s cave that is the Salvation Army shop across the road? Then why not pop into this gaff for a cheeky wee pint(or 5) and relax. Its pretty hard to miss this place just on with its huge windows, slightly garish fronting and kick ass graffiti(round the side). Gallus is a great place to meet and chill with your mates in a not to loud, not on the pull, not trying to be cool kind of way. With a kick ass jukebox on offer, a pool table in the back and several decent size tellies Gallus is i suppose in danger as marking itself out as a guys den(apologies if this is a wee bit sexist). With the usual mix of beers and booze on offer, plenty of snacky sundries and a fairly friendly bar staff, you could do far worse than Gallus if you fancied a pint in the area.

while there are a couple of quiet corners to hide away in with a loved one, i can’t help but feel very conspicuous in the company of the somewhat older crowd that seems to frequent the gallus any time i’ve popped in for a jar. there’s a good range of beer and spirits, reasonably priced — enter at your own discretion
