I thought I had written a review of Hooked at the time I last visited, but I must have been so distracted by the food that I forgot! We sat in to eat our food at Hooked, they have a very limited number of seats which are convenient for a chippy. This is no ordinary chippy, this chippy does all sorts of interesting vegetarian options which I have never seen before. They sell vegetarian haggis, halloumi, veggie sausage and macaroni cheese balls, it was nice to go to a chippy and be able to have something other than just chips! Coffee was appalling; I could have taken more stars off, I expect good coffee but it tasted like instant. Such a shame. I also felt the portions were a little small for the cost of a chippy takeaway, compared to others we have tried chips from. The food was cooked fairly quickly, but to order so it was freshly made. The sweet potato fries were quite delicately spiced, not in a hot way, just perfectly seasoned. The ‘normal’ chips were light and not too oily, as were the halloumi pieces. The macaroni cheese balls were a work of genius– imagine a golf ball sized spoonfull of macaroni cheese, rolled in a tasty thin batter. Words do not do justice. go and try. The veggie sausage supper was nice, but on the small size. They use Linda McCartney sausages, which look tiny next to a ‘proper’ sausage supper which you’re used to seeing elsewhere. We were glad that we tried out Hooked, probably wouldn’t rush back to try the suppers again, but would definitely get a macaroni ball supper. Fancy a chippy? Yes? I repeat, go for the macaroni cheese balls. Why does everywhere not sell these?

I’d like to happily announce that in my updated review of Hooked it now goes up to the well deserved 5 star rating! In my previous review the chips I had bought didn’t live up to my very high hopes. I’m now happy to say, after numerous visits, I have now had the chips of my dreams! I just loved Hooked and work tirelessly to spread the word around my friends and on Unilocal!Everything I’ve had from here has been so great. The sweet potato chips are incredible. The mac and cheese balls are absolutely massive and so tasty! The brie wedges are perfect! On my last visit I brought along some non-veggie friends and they loved everything they got — including the biggest serving of fish you’ve ever seen in your life! I’m super happy I can update my review to a 5 star, Hooked really is the best chippy in Glasgow!

I’ve been here a few times now, not just because the food is amazing, but because as a vegetarian the amount of things you can get off the menu totally blows my mind. Battered veggie sausage supper. Yes. The staff are very very friendly and the shop always has a chill atmosphere, it’s a great place to go. And because the food is ‘fancy’ for a chip shop, you don’t feel that bad about eating it constantly.

Why, on the day that I return from a Yoga class, does my other half proclaim that he wants a chippy for dinner? Just as I declare myself wholesome and healthy having guzzled a fresh juice and had an amazing yoga session — he wants the most fattening of all takeaway! As a compromise I suggested we go to Hooked since I had heard such good things about their menu. Easy to find, on Cathcart Road, Hooked isn’t your typical run down old chippy you’d find in any town. From the signage, to the distinct lack of grease and mess splayed over the counter, you can tell this place is the real deal. With a menu including baked fish, a range of batters and breadcrumbs and an option or Spanish rice instead of chips with your supper, you really are spoilt for choice. I decided to go with Tempura King Prawns with Sweet Potato Fries, Mushy Peas and a homemade Mexican Chipotle dip. These prawns were huge. Only £3.95 for 5 massive crispy prawns and they were an absolute delight. The batter was light and flavoursome and they were beautiful dipped in the Mexican chipotle. The sweet potato fries were crisp and nicely salty, and the mushy peas were flecked with fresh mint. An absolutely delicious alternative to the typical fish supper. Martyn had the Traditional Battered Haddock with Chips. The fish was massive in a light crispy traditional batter. The chips were quite chunky for chippy chips but weren’t greasy in the slightest. In general I don’t eat chippys. I just don’t like the lack of variety and the grease makes me feel a bit ill. However Hooked has completely reformed my opinion and I can’t wait to return to try the Mac & Cheese Balls and the Battered Halloumi.

I think I ate the entire restaurant on my first visit there! So much more than your everyday chippy. The menu options cater to every type of customer. The fresh chips made in the store vs the pre-heated ones you get everywhere else stood apart. I love that the owners are constantly evaluating their menu and their customers’ needs. Healthy options, the oil they use, the quality of fish and uncompromising committment to quality makes Hooked the hands down best chippy in Glasgow and beyond!

On my visit to Scotland, I heard so much about this new eatery called Hooked. I had read many great reviews so I had to check it out. It didn’t disappoint, the food was fresh and so scrumptious with so many choices of sauces and batters, It made it hard to decide. The owner was so generous in letting sample some of the sauce choices and loved the ones that had nice bite to them. I can see why the people in Glasgow are giving this place a rave review. It’s well deserved. You must try this place, you won’t leave disappointed.

Hooked is that kind of fancy chippy that makes you feel a lot less guilty about having a takeaway for dinner. They’ve got an interesting menu with a huge amount of choice — not just fish and sausage — and so I was excited to give it a try when having dinner with friends who live nearby last night. We popped down to place our order. This place is very slick — nice white tiling, very classy for a takeaway shop. There is a few seats in the window but for me it’s too small to eat in, I’d rather get my food and go. I love the menu — it is so refreshing to see somewhere doing really interesting options in a chippy. There’s things like halloumi, baked fish, squid rings and salmon bites. I ordered the baked fish with lemon & parsley as a supper and a side of onion rings. You can also choose your seasoning for your chips(brilliant idea) and while chicken salt sadly isn’t an option, I got garlic & Parmesan. If you don’t want chips, you can get Spanish rice instead. It didn’t take too long — less than 10 minutes and was all beautifully packaged up for us. Everything was labelled so when we got home to eat it, we knew what was what. I tried a mac cheese ball which was MASSIVE, not what I expected at all. It was the size of a tennis ball rather than little balls but it was really good. It could have been cheesier but for a chip shop mac cheese it was excellent. How do they get it into a ball shape? Who knows. The fish and chips were lovely. The baked fish was a nice change and felt very healthy and fresh. The chips were seasoned but maybe not as much as I’d have liked and this was really the only part of the meal I thought was a little disappointing. I wish I had of ordered fritters — but I’ll save that for next time. I’ll definitely be back to try Hooked again soon as this was a really nice change from your usual fish supper.

I first read in November that this place did veggie sausage suppers, veggie haggis suppers, and bean burgers; a mix of not being in the UK and eating my way around other places has put off my first visit until now. They fry in rapeseed oil and the batter is vegan — and they can also fry in a gluten free batter as well. The only downside is that only the chips are fried separately, the other veggie things are fried in the same fryer as the meat/fish products. I’m vegan and it grosses me out a little bit, but in the big picture more chippies frying only in plant based oils who offer great vegetarian suppers also suitable for vegans is a great thing. Veggie haggis is really filling and I thought £2.75 for two decent battered servings was fantastic. It was £1.50 more to top it up to a supper or £1.95 for sweet potato fries; I went for the latter. Delicious — I’ve rarely met a sweet potato fry I didn’t like. My husband opted for the sausage supper, which he also gave a big thumbs up. We were lucky enough to have the single table outside — with two chairs — free for Hooked customers, and apart from the slight wind it was lovely weather. Staff were really friendly — very organised by labelling products on their carton/box whilst the rest of the order was being cooked, friendly greeting on arrival, and doing their most to check you had everything you needed, napkins, cutlery, etc. I don’t go to chippies that often but I think this is the most attention and pleasantries I’ve ever gotten in one, usually you don’t get much beyond«Salt and vinegar?». They also engage with customers well on social media. I’ll definitely be back!

I’m very lucky to have hooked as my local chippy! I’ve been numerous times, the service is great, everything cooked fresh to order and it’s been consistently tasty. From a standard haddock supper, baked fish and Spanish rice, veggie haggis, fish in a bun, battered halloumi — and that’s just the suppers! Along with a choice of normal batter, tempura or panko bread crumbs, their tartare sauce elevates a standard fish supper and goes great with their chips. Unlike many chip shops, the food isn’t greasy in any way and is very reasonably priced for the quality. After finding it so hard to pick from the menu, one evening we got a mixture or singles and sides all to share! One of the best takeaway meals I’ve ever had. Fish bites, chilli and garlic squid, halloumi, Mac & cheese balls, sweet potato fries, fried Brie — everything cooked perfectly. After recommending hooked to a colleague, they had hooked catering a birthday party and even on that scale the food was still great. To top off a great experience, I noticed on my last visit they have began stocking a range of fish for their suppers including sole and hake! I think these are ran on a specials basis.

Offset by some less attractive storefronts, this place LEAPS out at you. It’s a gorgeous-looking chippy, both inside and out. I knew I was onto a winner when the staff offered a million options when I asked for a humble ‘bag of chips’. To be clear, they had a fierce selection of sauces and other toppings on offer: not just salt and vinegar. The menu also looked surprisingly varied, and more importantly, modestly priced(in relative terms). A busy enough wee place as well. Looks like a winner to me. And, I will be back.

Finger licking Fish & Chips at this new local chippie. Very funky design and great menu with 3 different types of batter being offered. Also a multitude of toppings for your chips. Well worth a visit, it also has space for a few people to eat on stools inside and one table outside if i recall correctly. The owner and his wife both working behind the counter. To top it all off they doa range of frozen yoghurts too. Can’t be faulted so far, i will be back there for my weekly dose of fish and chips. :) Website not up yet but their Facebook Page is.
