Jellyhill is quite charming. The inside somewhat resembles a ski lodge with lots of warm wood tables and booths. It is quirky cute. We were warmly greeted when we came in and quickly served drinks. I ordered a cappuccino which had lovely foam on top and came with a tasty tablet. My only issue with it was that I didn’t find it strong enough, so maybe next time I’ll ask for a double shot. They serve all day breakfast. Yep. all day breakfast. Always a winning sign. I also spotted Nachos on the menu, which always makes me happy. Ordered eggs and toast and it definitely hit the spot. The eggs were perfectly seasoned and the buttery toast was yum-city. Best of all… they are dog friendly! And side note: they have outdoor seating, on a nice day it would be pleasant to sit street side.

I ventured into Jelly Hill for the first time in a long time. I used to like sitting in there of an evening scribbling out ideas for my Blog, watching the world go by. Very sad to say that although the décor is still the same the food and coffee were not! Yes, the Jelly Hill water, jelly beans were still there but the coffee was quite insipid and I have to say our table had not been very well cleaned. The nachos we had were fine, the salsa nice with just the right bit of spice. I think I need to go back and give it another chance but with increasing competition in Hyndland, Jelly Hill needs to find something different

Sunshine in Glasgow and the hunt for a seat somewhere to enjoy the evening with a cold beverage, or two was quickly resolved at Jellyhill. More café than bar, they have a small selection of cold beers and ciders, and outdoor seating, perfect for a sun-soaked evening. I’ve had coffee here before, and it’s usually pretty busy so we were pleased to be able to sit outside. The staff were nice and friendly, also enjoying the weather I think, and whilst the selection is small, there should be enough choice for most people, unless you are very fussy — note: no beers on tap, bottles only. After a couple of cold ones, which seemed to … er… evaporate rather quickly, I realised I was peckish so ordered some nachos. They were ok, although the guacamole was a disappointment, but I’m guessing it was all straight from a pack, mind you I’m not sure that I’ve ever had runny guacamole before, was more like a sauce! The nachos themselves were very very salty, the salsa was thin but very spicy and the whole thing just didn’t really work as a dish. It was just a snack but none of it was particularly great. With that in mind, and given the fact the floor was covered in food crumbs and other detritus and clearly hadn’t seen a brush all afternoon, and I left feeling underwhelmed, or as Unilocal likes to put it, meh! The main selling point was sitting out in the sun, and for that it was just fine, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing back for any food any time soon.

I really like the overall vibe of the place but the coffee is just so-so. Their scones are delicious like others stated and worth a try. I’m really a huge fan of their atmosphere and it’s worth the so-so things just to be able to enjoy the space. PS: candy is everywhere!

I sometimes wish I could tell people the stories of how I end up in the places I end up, but trust me, it’s better if you didn’t know how I found myself on Jellyhill on Hyndland Road. But anyway. It’s cute, but the pine benches are somewhat uncomfortable after a while. Although it was lunch time(albeit on a Tuesday afternoon) it was quite quiet and the member of staff who was on duty kept forgetting to change the CD, because there were some rather awkward moments when the music would go off and the place would be in complete silence. Anyway, I had a Cajun Chicken Sanwich, toasted on brown bread(I’m on a health kick, y’see). It was pretty yummy, though it seemed my conventional and very good table manners were defeated by this sandwich as it went all over my plate, and almost all over me too. The plate was a little small for my liking and all in all, there wasn’t a lot to choose from on the menu, it was only baked potatoes or sandwiches. But I would go back, if I was in the area and I was hungry. I liked that you could bring your dog in though. I might bring my pooch along the next time I go!

What a cute little spot Jellyhill is. If you’re looking for a good spot for a nice brunch, you’ve found it. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? Marvelous on all counts. From the gorgeous wooden trim on everything to the great location, I could have sat in Jellyhill all day. The owner’s name escapes me, but he was a fantastically friendly man who went as far as to open thirty minutes early for my party of two. Finally, I need to point out how cute it is that there is a bowl of jelly babies on the counter to compliment the name. Fantastic. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I can’t recall the exact price of my breakfast waffle, but it couldn’t have been more than £5, which is in and of itself fantastically reasonable. This fair price range spans the whole menu, and is refreshing compared to some of the overpriced spots in Glasgow. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Very, very good. My waffle was brilliantly sweet, the maple syrup was legit, and the bacon fresh and crispy. My only recommendation would be to make the waffle itself a tad bit bigger and the bacon maybe a bit thicker. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The food is good, but it’s the atmosphere and the service that make Jellyhill a great experience. Star Granted.

This place is Ok… coffee… Ok… Menu… Ok but nothing to write home about. Nice interior and great to sit outside on a sunny evening and watch the world go by. They’re doggy friendly so no need to tie little Benji up outside. Your furry little friend may even entice a smile on the face of the staff but that comes with no guarantee :-/Come on guys, cheer up! Your curdling the milk.

Just take a wee walk away from the lively traffic of Byers Road, and escape into the heart of Hyndland. Jelly Hill is a pretty popular destination in the ‘hood. You’ll be hard pressed to find this place empty. Locals and passers-by pop in for a bit of people watching while lunching or sipping on a warm cuppa. I came here with a couple guy friends on a weekday morning. One of the guys was raving about their scones. Scones = thumbs up. Jelly Hill is quite wee and cosy. It also features outdoor seating, which is ideal when the weather is sunny and beautiful. We sat inside sheltered from the cold winter morning. The interior evokes a warm rustic feel with its unique carved wood furniture and décor. It wasn’t particularly busy that day, but there were a few patrons scattered about. The three of us sat in one of the booths across from the server counter. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze, but completely manageable. We sat and chatted over coffee and the infamous scones. The coffee was decent, and the scone pretty good. All their cakes and scones are homemade by local bakers. The staff is friendly, but as we were trying to make small talk with the owner(you know business students, always networking), the conversation was abruptly ended by the owner’s brashness… hopefully a blimp? The overall experience was ok, but probably not somewhere I’d choose to hang out on a regular basis. However, if you’re in the area, it’s a place to meet up with friends over a cuppa or glass of wine. Bottom line: unique décor, intimate space, decent coffee and homemade baked goodies.

Having walked past here on several ocassions I finally decided it was time to live a little,(and spend a lot), so I went in for a coffee with a friend. Jelly Hill, as small as it may be, is right in the heart of Hyndland, and seems to be extremely popular — well, in fact, it is popular — it’s never quiet! My friend and I sat outside(despite the lovely chilly breeze… ahem), and we were immediately set upon by a smiley happy staff member, who took our order(coffee and cake… yum — the menu otherwise was slightly limited me thinks). I did notice however, that as we went around 3pm, Jelly Hill went from quiet Hyndland coffee shop/wine bar, populated by older ladies in hats nattering about the latest season’s offerings, chinking glasses of chardonnay, to suddenly being seemingly over-run with mothers and children running about noisly. Not my idea of a quiet coffee, I can tell you. Don’t get me wrong, it was lovely, and the the place itself is really nice — the décor is fantastic, and the staff are welcoming — but I just didn’t feel ‘local’ or ‘cool’ enough to sit back and relax. Hmm…

I really wanted to like Jelly Hill on Hyndland Road. Having recently moved to the area, I was very happy to see it was my new local. That was until I visited last weekend and left feeling bitterly disappointed. Now I’ll be fair, Jelly Hill is first and foremost a wine bar and my visit was for lunch on a Saturday so I’m probably not seeing the place at its full potential. But my first Jelly Hill experience went like this– My boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch so we rocked up at 1pm to a bustling café– good sign. When we walked in, we weren’t really sure whether to take a seat or head to the counter, and sure enough a member of staff walked past without giving us so much as a smile. We quickly found the only table that was available but we were reluctant to sit there– it was right in the middle of the floor, which was clearly the owner’s haphazard attempt to squeeze as much money as possible out of the place; it clearly shouldn’t have been there. As we sat down we were blocking the way to the counter on one side, and the fridge where customers collect their ready-made paninis to the other. I literally had someone leaning over my lunch for them to pick out theirs. Now I’ll try not to rant about those paninis too much. BUT Jelly Hill has obviously seen the benefits of serving lunch but can’t be bothered doing it properly– so they stock a fridge of ready-made paninis for customers to collect and take to the til. I’m in favour of being able to have something savoury when I go for a coffee or drink but they were really over-priced and small in size. Another gimmick which I would advise you against is you can have your tiny panini with a ‘lunch plate’- pay an extra pound and have a spoonful of mass produced coleslaw and four or five crisps. No thanks. I enquired about the soup– ‘Do you have a vegetarian option?’ to ‘Well we have a vegetable soup but I think it might have meat stock in it, I’m not sure.’ Hmph. Great. In the end we had one Panini, one scone and two smoothies– our bill was over £12. I’ll go back to Jelly Hill, but it’ll be at night for a stiff drink.

Jellyhill’s cool vibe has made it a firm favourite with al-fresco diners in the West End. Overlooking much of Hyndland, within the chic interior, tables are filled with friends drinking coffee, tea and wine respectively. Truly an all-encompassing, welcoming experience.
