There’s just something about a canal-side pub that’s very appealing, and we have too few of them around in Glasgow. Perfectly placed to cater for walkers and cyclists on the canal path as well as locals from the top end of Anniesland, Lock 27 is a fairly typical gastro-pub. It has a large central bar area and large screen TVs inside if you’re a sports fan, but is otherwise pretty unmemorable. The food is quite reasonably priced, although I didn’t eat on this visit. It really comes into its own on a sunny day when it is very pleasant to sit outside by the canal and watch the world go by whilst supping your beer. It’s far enough from the main Bearsden Road that the traffic doesn’t bother you too much even if it’s not exactly peaceful. Watch out for the cyclists though — they can be a definite hazard.

Our one and only summer day in Glasgow and I’m lucky enough to be out and about walking in the sunshine by the canal. A long walk yet the Oasis which is Lock 27 awaits!!! … Its Packed!!! Its clearly one of the most popular places to be on a sunny day and why not, its in the perfect position overlooking the canal. When the weather is like this however, be prepared for long queues at the bar and probably not much hope of a seat, but the position more than makes up for it. Unfortunate however the cycle path runs straight through the front beer garden so be aware, they’ll mow you down if you get in the way! My advice is high vis jackets should be worn at all times!!!

Though Lock 27 is at its best on a beautifully sunny day when one can enjoy the great outdoor seating and the swans swimming by, it’s not so bad inside. I popped in today to take shelter from the Bank Holiday drizzle and sipped my ginger beer at the bar. Looking at the interior of the place, it’s difficult to square up the dark décor with the lively and breezy atmosphere outdoors. I’ve had meals here before and the food isn’t bad at all. But I’ll save my next visit for when the weather gets good again.

Lock 27 gathers a mixed bunch of travellers; from cyclists and ramblers to locals and families! It’s a friendly place that has been successful for 20 years. I remember it as a kid — it hasn’t changed much and is continuously successful at drawing in the punters. I’ve been in here many times, to watch the football or to stop by when I’m on the bike. It’s a good place to berth yourself while you ride along the canal and on sunny days they have loads of picnic tables outside. Makes it easier to watch your bike, and also have a wee relax and enjoys the rays(or in Scotland’s case, rain!) Even when it is a dull day they have an extensive menu to warm you up. It’s surprisingly varied for being a gastropub, with everything from mussels to Indian food on the menu. Nothing goes beyond the £10 mark, and on a sunny evening it would be a perfect place to bring your significant other for a romantic dinner by the water. It’s not too swanky and it stays true to its pubby grass roots. But aside from having a good selection of beers, ales and whiskys, they work hard at promoting their cocktail and wine list. You’re hit with it the minute you walk through the door, showing that this bar works hard to cater for everyone. With the scenic location and the good choices in an area somewhat lacking in such attributes, you’ve hit the jackpot in here!

Popular with the Glasgow vet school students, Lock 27 is a great place to get a casual meal(fish & chips, burgers) and has an impressive selection of brews on tap. Favorite dessert: the sticky toffee pudding. Delicious!!!

This is quite an unusual wee place. Perched on the side of the Forth and Clyde Canal just beside Lock 27(i think this is where it gets it’s name from… duh) this is a nice place to pop into if your enjoying a stroll, cycle or jog(maybe not) down the canal and you fancy a wee beer or some decent grub. In a nice enough location Lock 27 takes advantage of its canal side location to offer some pretty nice outdoor seating which, as you would imagine is gold dust in the glimmer of summer in Glasgow. Why not enjoy a pint while you sit by the canal side soaking up the summer… ray, dodging the wasps and worrying about the swans(they can snap your arm with there beaks you know!), Ok so i’m probably not the best person to review an out door eatery, but if you just take all the negatives form this review and replace them with an optimistic twist then i think you’ll find that this is quite a nice place and if truth be told, a welcome find for a weary canal walking type person.

A great bar to watch the footbal, fun friendly atmosphere, food that will really surprise you — menu is excellent value for money.
