This shop has closed long ago. It changed location 3 times since i started going there, around 1977. I was into astronomy, making my own telescopes and Jim Quigg was a brilliant guy, always going the extra mile to get hold of lenes for me. Sadly he took a heart attack and died, then his son took over. He then sold it on, then it closed down. Many memories, i still walk by sometimes, sad to see it still shuttered up.

I had the misfortune of dropping my favourite lens, an incident which caused me no end of worry. I’d recommend the shop to a friend for a camera repair, as it has a great reputation, so I thought I’d give it a go. I took my lens into the shop, spoke with one of the staff who listened to my woes & took down my details, giving me a timescale of a few days for a quote. Honestly, I was worried that it’d be irreparable or prohibitively expensive, but I’m really happy to say that I not only got a quote the following day, but the price was entirely reasonable too. After agreeing to the price, I was told the repair could take 7 – 10 days, but I was called within 5& told my precious lens was ready for collection. When I turned up to collect my lens, the guy showed me that the lens was working, which was a nice wee touch. When I got home I noticed they’d even replaced the chipped mount plate! For such a reasonable cost, I was really impressed with the whole experience. I can’t recommend Merchant City Cameras enough. Thanks for the great service!

Although I’ve heard great things about this shop, I must admit I was a bit disappointed to find that it sells mostly second hand equipment. When I asked if they had the new Nikon DSLR that I was interested in, they just said rather abruptly that they didn’t have it there was no offer to get one for me or a suggestion of where else I could look for it. I think the outside of the shop ought to say that it stocks mostly(or all?) second hand gear. Having said that, it may well be the best place to pick up bargains but I can only rate it so far on my limited experience. It’s open Mon-Sat 10.00am-5.00pm, closed Sundays.

This Amazing camera shop is just a Gem! The service is Amazing! I only found this shop After I purchased my canon 60D, from Jesopps! The reason I went their was because I knew the exact camera threw advice that I wanted! But after over an hour of the SALESREP tiring to get me to buy what felt like the whole shop!!! Think he thought I was a lottery winner, I knew I was never going back their EVER! So an Internet search brought up this shop! Very first visit I was interested in additional lenses, but as a beginner at photography and just at that time starting a college photography course, I was not very good at knowing what was required, for my needs! And lenses are expensive so I did not want to buy one that I did not need! Well I found out the shop does offer second hand lenses, with 6 months warranty!!! Just great for someone like me working my way up! I have bought 2 lenses now, memory card, and the other day I was lucky enough just to call and ask if they had any speedlights, and was super excited that they had one! I got a great lesson on how to use it. I am going to trade in one of my lenses soon, and I can not wait, as I know I’ll get the very best lense they can offer for what I require, I have a wedding seminar to attend in Cambridge this may and I am lucky enough to now have all equipment required for the practical part! I will only use this shop now, never dream of going anywhere else! And they can look into getting anything you may require if it’s not in the shop! So proud to have such a shop in my city!!! So for a beginner or pro, or somewhere in the middle get yourself along, amazing friendly advice! Many thanks to all at Merchant City Cameras, Ilisa stack

Merchant City Cameras really is for the photographer. Selling Tripods and lenses as well as professional, high quality cameras, it’s a great place for professionals to pick up equipment. They have a range of high quality cameras, some slightly cheaper than the high street RRP. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Their lenses and accessories are more expensive to someone like me who doesn’t know their stuff, but to someone who knows what they’re looking for I’m sure there are some good deals in here. The staff are friendly and it’s always fairly busy, which is a testament to the high quality of this store’s service. I visited here today to have a look at camera cases for my swish new birthday DSLR(thanks, Stuart!). I’m not too advanced with my camera knowledge but teh staff are happy to help you regardless of how much you know. What’s more, it’s worth a visit to view the old cameras alone. They have a number of cameras on display dating back from the 50s, and all for very reaosnably prices considering they’ve lasted all these decades. Shops like this are a lot more helpful than what you can get in the high street, and I’d reommend it to photographers in particular.

Quiggs was kind of a Glasgow institution, it’s nice to see a fresh new coat of paint on the place. If you need ANYTHING to do with Cameras, just go here. Even if your clueless, the staff will help you and not make you feel like an idiot, even convincing me to give some of them a test. One massive advantage over other shops is that sell lens mounts for different cameras, which are so hard to come by. This place is cheap, but we’re talking about expensive gear. to the uninitiated, 400 quid for a camera seems expensive. But your really not going to find better value in Glasgow.

This place used to be called Quiggs. So if anyone tells you to go to Quiggs, then this is the place they mean. They haven’t changed ownership, just the name. I bought my first SLR camera in here. What a standard they set! I went in, sheepish, glancing around and feeling overwhelmed. I had no idea what the difference between the cameras meant. I had no idea what extras I wanted. I was C-L-U-E-L-E-S-S. I had brought my wages with me, because I knew I was going to spend it all on a camera that day. The staff were so patient with me. He asked me what sort of photos I wanted to take, if I knew anything about manual settings, etc. He offered up a few suggestions, taking each camera out of the glass case to show it to me, and let me hold it. He gave me particulars on each one, pointing out its advantages and disadvantages. When I decided on one(A refurbished, Canon EOS500), he took me aside and showed me a bunch of manual tricks that I didn’t know. He took that kind of time; the kind of time that most chain stores don’t care to spend. Then, he photocopied the ENTIRE Canon handbook for me(as a refurbished model, it was camera only; no box, no manual). I didn’t get charged for that. And I bought a role of film as well, and he threw in an extra roll for free; just to get me started. When I started having problems with my Canon a few years later, angsty and worried that I’d broken it, I took it back in to him, and to my surprise, he remembered me.(Maybe I still had that undeniable clueless look on my face, but I like to think that he just has that kind of customer care.) He looked it over, adjusted a few things, took a roll of film on it and sent it for development, which he never charged me for, just to see how the pictures came out. Turns out I nothing was actually wrong with my camera. Very relieved, I couldn’t believe how much he cared. I will never buy a camera from anywhere else. And I would definately recommend this place whether you’re a pro or just a beginner. You can feel safe in the knowledge that they won’t do you over; and you’ll have a comfortable and friendly advisor in your picture taking journeys.

This place is the photographers camera shop. A fan of taking your memory card to boots to take advantage of the 1 hour print service? then maybe this ain’t the place for you. Got yourself a proper, non point and shoot camera and need some gear/advice then this may well be the joint you’ve been looking for. Now in all honesty, in terms of Cameras i’m probably in the former category listed above, however while popping in here for a quick nosey, its hard not to be impressed by the array of new and old Cameras they have on display. And i bet they actually know what there talking about as well.
