Morrisons

We used to shop at this Morrisons pretty regularly, but since the Partick one was revamped and is much closer to us we tend to use that one all the time now. But as we were passing this Anniesland branch on foot and needed a few supplies for dinner, we popped in just after New Year.
This Anniesland one is pretty mega and it was interesting to see what things they had that the Partick one doesn’t. I’m always intrigued at how supermarkets tailor their stock to the local clientèle.
This branch also has a filling station, which is great for when they are giving out discount fuel vouchers. It’s also handy if you’re heading out of town and are short of fuel as it’s easy to get at from Bearsden Road.
My main gripe about this place, and perhaps the real reason we don’t visit it very often, is that the car park is a nightmare to negotiate at the best of times. There is a sneaky back way that comes out beside the railway bridge on Great Western Road, but it involves some tortuous corners, parked cars and pedestrian dodging so you need to keep your wits about you. I once ran into a huge articulated lorry trying to squeeze around the first corner (and failing!).

This place is HUGE! You can find anything you need under their roof. They even have a few kids clothing items and housewares. I like how spacious the aisles are so you don’t feel cramped. The prices are decent and it’s a nice trip if you have alot of items your kitchen is lacking.
They have much more variety on spices than the other Morrison’s I’ve been in. It can be a bit difficult to find on your first trip. It’s also right across the street from Mothercare if you need other kids items.

Their French bread states that they use French flour; I just tried a tiger tails stick and it certainly tasted like the genuine article — it was delicious. Just the right amount of crunch and chewy and flavour was fab. The bakery’s fresh croissants are fabulous too: soft, teary (not the crying type of teary — but rippy!) and melt in the mouth.
I think the supermarket has improved immensely since the re-​furb, and I am pleasantly surprised by some of the finds including a vegetarian, hard cheese in the savers range. Very handy for me as on my door-​step.
The reason it is 4* is that it is a supermarket and I there is no other supermarket that would be perfect, so 4* is as good as it gets. You cannot get everything in one shop!

Following extensive research carried out since I moved to the Trendy West End in November 2011, I can confirm that this is the best supermarket in the area. Great value and great choice.
Morrisons Anniesland is also home to the famous Dry Ice Vegetables Shelf which has been praised by Gary on «Good Morning Scotland» on the BBC (other supermarkets are available) and remarkably still works (when I first saw it, it looked like a gimmick which would break down after a fortnight).

Across the country, I am a fan of Morrisons. They have a rare commitment to customer service, combine cheap prices with good quality and my local southside store is my big nasty superchain of choice.
The layout is typical: it encourages browsing, picking up extra items, and the special offers dotted around the store always lead to a fuller basket than I had hoped. Having used this particular branch rarely, I will say that it seems busier than most Morrisons: my local rarely has long queues but this one seemed a little slower than usual

Last year my flatmate had a car and so she would kindly help us escape the over-​priced shops in the West End and take us to Morrisons at Anniesland Cross to stock up our cupboards.
Now it can be difficult to get excited about a large supermarket but as supermarkets go, this is a good ‘un. It’s really big so it has an excellent selection of products including house-​hold goods, a bakery, fishmonger and café. The fruit and veg were always of good quality and there were often great ‘buy one get one free’ deals.
We’d usually go on a Sunday evening when it was quiet — they often have more reduced products then too. Recommended!!!

Having lived in a flat for a year where the view from my kitchen window was simply Morrisons, I made frequent visits here — for picking up little bits and bobs (such as milk and bread), for stocking up during proper weekly shops and when spoiling myself and treating my friends to a luxury meal. This Morrisons has everything.
I love the layout and managed to find my way around the store easily on pretty much my first visit. Everything is just where you expect it to be. And the selection is fantastic. I became a big fan of everything Morrisons when I lived nearby — excellent quality.
Additionally, there is a butchers, a bakery, a fishmongers as well as a pharmacy (open until 10pm some days) and a dry cleaning service — all much-​needed in Anniesland.
My only negative is the queues. This store is always busy and you will alwaaaays have to queue. Other than that, top notch.

Morrisons is well located in the heart of Anniesland and right next to the train station. It is a good supermarket which includes facilities such as dry cleaning, bakery and fishmonger. The store also has a pharmacy which is open until 10pm which can be useful as a late night chemist. I’ve knocked a couple of stars off as I don’t think Morrisons is as good as Tesco — I think Tesco offers better quality own brand produce than Morrisons.
The petrol prices are always very competitive and I always try to use Morrisons for fuel. So a lot of other drivers and the petrol station can often be really busy. I think they are trying to resolve this by installing self pay pumps to speed things up.

Morrisons is very handy in centre of anniesland. Huge car park with lots of spaces for disabled/​parent and child. On entry there is the long section of fruit, veg and fish. Lots of choice, but dont expect any really exotic fruits that say Sainsburys or M&S may stock as they wont have them. Fish selection excellent. It is a large supermarket with all the usual stuff. Not over polluted with own brands which can be annoying in other supermarkets. My main gripe is the tills — always busy, too much queuing, and not fast enough to put an extra person on a till. One star off for this alone.

Would have given this store 5 stars if it wasnt so busy all the time, it can take a long time to get served at a till, its just so well placed and good choice etc, loads of people seem to use it for everyday items, as well as weekly shop.
Its very handy if you need the odd thing, its next to the train station, so I used to go all the time to and from work as well as using it for the weekly/​monthly shop. Store is well laid out inside, with well stocked shelves and helpful friendly staff.
The high street part is good, with a great selection of foods, from fishmonger, butcher, baker, pie man etc etc. its a handy alternative to shopping at loads of different shops in the high street,… doesn’t really support local businesses though, but for people on a budget its a good idea.
There are also essential services like photo developers, dry-​cleaners etc, and you can hire professional carpet cleaners here too.
Great selection of music and film too, as well as home essentials like cookwear, electrical appliances etc.
