i make a weekly visit on a wednesday for a good singsong and a bit of karaōke. it all kicks off around 5PM with a keyboard player and singer, which gets everyone up on the floor dancing pretty much from the get go. they also play a little bit of bingo and play your cards right through the afternoon and they provide a lite buffet, sandwiches and the best sausage rolls I’ve ever tasted: D The karaōke follows right after the singsong and is on till closing. all in all its a smashing day out. electric atmosphere and a rip roaring good old fashioned knees up, i’d recommend it to any one who likes to have a great day out with no hassle. the punters are varied from there late 20’s to their 80’s and all well behaved. i’ll tell you something for free a hope a can still dance like them when am getting on, once youve seen an 82 year old dance to ganganstyle and 72 year old dance to cascada on the chairs theres not alot else to see in life lol great pub for entertainment, astounding bar staff 2: D they make you feel welcomed. check out their new facebook page for there entertainment

I’d never been in here before, despite walking by it or bus-ing by it hundreds, maybe thousands of times. I put that right last night, when I was on one of my weekly wanderings. I was a bit apprehensive to enter, as these«old school» type pubs sometimes have a bit of an «us and them» feel about them, but nothing like that here. Bar staff chatted away to me, as did the punters sitting at the bar. One TV that was showing a quiz show, with people randomly shouting answers at it from all over the quite small interior was your entertainment, and dammit, I loved it. If I lived locally, I’d never be out of here. It’s the kind of place you imagine they have a dominoes tournament every Sunday afternoon until Ski Sunday comes on the telly. I had a pint of Caledonia Best, lovely and cold, and cheap at £2.70 — and it’s right near the High Street railway station, so ideal for a quick one before or after your train. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, I’m pretty sure of that — but to me? I loved it. It reminded me of the Scotia, another fine, fine pub.

We were wandering and gawking on vacation and crossed in front of this place when a local having a smoke said hello and told us this is the oldest bar in Glasgow. We went in to see and were greeted by the staff and other patrons like old friends. We had a grand time learning about the history, sampling local beers and finding out what a shanty is. These drinks and our new friends gave us a warm fuzzy for Glasgow.

There is old as in old school, retro, vintage or classic and then there is old as in, eww yuck why is this place still here? The Old College Bar isn’t old in a charming, lovingly restored to it’s former glory kind of way. It is just dirty and worn looking and drinking in here made me want a tetanus shot afterwards. I was the only female in the place on my one and only visit and the horrid men in here looked at me like I was the first women they had seen in 20 years. In fact some of the men looked like they actually live in this pub so maybe I really was the first women they had seen in 20 years! Their wives probably won’t have them in the house anymore. There are older pubs in Glasgow so the Old College Bar doesn’t even have the that novelty appeal going for it. Avoid!
