A good little pub to pop into for a beer of an evening. The staff are always friendly and chatty, and the service is normally swift. A full-stocked bar and not over-priced. Very good pub food — sharing its kitchen with Committee Room 9 next door. Dimly lit with dark furniture and a few individual booths, it’s décor matches it’s relaxed feel. Cheesy tunes on the jukebox and, when the Mr and I visited on Wednesday night, the delightful Glasgow institution that is the drag queen Bella Houston(I love this name) hosted the quiz and bingo night. In fact, there’s something on every night that it’s open. Open till 3am at the weekend and has a separate upstairs venue that can be hired and at the weekends is also a club. My criticisms of Speakeasy are that it’s not open every night of the week — closed Mondays and Tuesdays. And I’ve never quite been sure who watches the sport playing on the two screens behind the bar — although recently they’ve been playing a music video channel.

I’ve just surprised myself when I realised I’ve never reviewed Speakeasy. So here goes. I regularly pop in here when I’m out on date night with the Mr. There are a few gay bars in the city centre — Speakeasy is the one that caters more to folks in their late twenties upwards — but is also friendly and welcoming to anyone. It’s a G1 Group owned business and is the sister bar to Committee Room 9, next door. Décor wise, it’s all fairly low lighting, dark reds and lots of dark wood — exactly what a speakeasy should be like! The staff are great — very friendly and helpful. I like that it’s open late, has drag queen karaōke, has lots of cheesy 80/90’s music, and is about to start a weekly quiz night. There’s also a private function room available for booking. And it shares the food menu with the bar next door. Overall a very cheap and relaxed place to spend a few hours.

A mixture of traditional boozer with elements of stylised cocktail bar, Speakeasy tries to be all things that the gay and lesbian scenes wants — drag queens, karaōke, theme nights, dance space upstairs. But like a poor relative to sister venue Delmonicas, this wee pub has lots going for it but has never really found a direction that it likes enough to keep at. With an additional venue upstairs once marketed as a lesbian only space, a decent pub grub menu thanks to Committee Rooms next door, and a 3am license on Friday/Saturday it’s not short of punters. Maybe one day they’ll get rid of the sports channel on the TV that no one here watches…

Only popped in for a drink but nice bar, friendly staff, reasonable range of beers but a bit light on ‘ales’. Good décor, cheesy pop music, and the food on a nearby table looked pretty good! One to revisit someday.

When I was new to Glasgow, this was the first gay bar I went too with some friends. My first impression was ‘dull and overpriced’ and even after some renovation it still is the same. Dark maroon leather with very ‘red’ atmosphere, it is home to most of the old folk which pop in from revolver next door. There is a club upstairs called FHQ which has some of the most boring music(unless you we’re born in 1970’s). The staff is mildly welcoming but generally very stiff for bar folk and the drinks are overpriced and watered down. I would suggest a visit and no more.

Been here quite often last year but a few times this year. usually very crowdy on Fri and Sat night, especially after 11pm when the Revolver Bar closes next door. A mix of LGBT friendly people, nice dance music. However, people can be shy and not talk to any newcomers in town, so leave you standing alone in the crowd wondering if you are an alien yourself. Reasonably priced drinks, the space is not great but it’s good enough for meeting and chatting with friends. Only a few young lads and ladies dance at the height of the night, the rest of older crowd are shy and just looking /chatting, not great if you want to be silly for the night. 2 – 3 big screens usually show rugby /football matches. Sometimes they are idle. Toilets can be so disgustingly smelly that you wish you never go near it.

Speakeasy is an awesome venue on Glasgow’s Gay Scene — in the heart of Merchant City. It’s a no-attitude bar where everyone is welcomed by the nice staff, great selection of drinks and awesome prices. Entertainment is great and you’ll be sure to find something you love at least one night a week.

The first thing you notice about Speakeasy is the décor — very dark and erring on the right side of sleazy. The staff are always on the ball, and I’ve never had to wait too long to get served — even on busy nights. It’s a really friendly crowd with it’s own motely crew of regulars. The entertainment is top notch. Themed quiz nights and late night disco to kick off the week, then the fabulous resident drag queen Nancy Clench hosts Bad Drag and karaōke on Wednesdays, Thom Glow hosts a quiz and tickles the ivorys on Thursdays, followed by DJ Queenie and the weekend is taken up resident DJs and Nancy Clench. Drinks are relatively cheap, given the location, and it has a great atmosphere. All in all, if you’re wanting to go to a bar with a difference, head to Speakeasy.

Speakeasy is the latest addition to Glasgow’s LGBT scene and it is more of a late night bar than a club. Décor wise I find it to be very gentlemanly(camp gentlemen mind) as theres lots of wood, black metal and leather. The plush red booths complete with matching cushions give the game away that it is a gay bar though! Speakeasy serves decent food and has a great offer of 5 different cocktails all priced at £1.99 all day everyday. They have free wifi, music quizes and best off all Glee Sundays where you can sing along to all your favourite Glee hits! All in all speakeasy is a welcome addition to Glasgow’s vibrant gay scene.
