The Clutha representing an ever more dear to our hearts Glasgow institution. The most friendly place I know in Glasgow– perfect if your in the mood for chat with a stranger and don’t mind straining to hear your pals. There’s always music on weekend nights and lots of week nights too– mostly folk/Scottish influenced sometimes with a rock edge. This is an ideal place to take visitors to Scotland where you can show off Scotland’s welcoming reputation and music scene. The band on Friday night included enthusiastic bagpipers so definitely not the place for a quiet drink! Get there really early — we went at 6.30– if you want a table at a weekend. The wood fired pizzas are fast gaining a reputation and with a «make your own» option you can choose 3 toppings from a cast of about 40 for £7.50. I had goats cheese, caramelised onion and sundried tomato. The pizza was one of the best I’ve had. Really rich flavours and a lovely crust which wasn’t brick hard. Service is super super friendly and casual and the pizzas didn’t take long at all. We had some wait to pay at the bar at the end of our night which is why this review isn’t 5 stars. There’s also a deal from 5 – 7 where you can get a pizza and a glass of wine or beer(from a set selection) for £9. The décor inside is totally unique with a fantastic opaque glass roof and tree in the centre of the pub. Love the Clutha– will be back again soon.

We had heard good things about the Clutha’s wood fired pizzas, so a great place to try out for a family meal. We entered the bar via the Victoria entrance(which has its own bar and a seating area), which opens up to a beautiful roofed courtyard area with a tree in the middle. The selection of drinks is really good, with nice soft drinks and some more unusual drinks which we had not seen before(Magners lemon, which turned out not to be to my taste but was nice to try). They had Glad Eye from Drygate on tap, as well as Menabrea and the usual things one would expect. We were amazed that 52 toppings were available for our pizzas, and vegan tacos and super salads were on the menu. Vegan friendly, super customisable food. delish selection and pleasing to two picky vegetarians and their meat eating guest! We took ages to decide what to eat, but the 3 pizzas were delivered to our table with a smile and beautiful presentation. The dough was thin and handmade, and all of us really enjoyed our personalised pizzas; I had chosen the wee chieftain, which came topped with fresh herbs and was such a lovey combination which I probably wouldn’t have thought of myself, David was being crazy brave and went for Sriracha sauce based one. super spicy and rave reviews from that! Never seen that on a pizza. but why not? The veggie haggis was home made and delicious, and generously topped. Will definitely be back! They even have a Nutella and Haagen Dazs pizza on their website…
