The Hill has been open since 2013 but it still feels pretty new — I thought it was only about a year old, to be honest. I was in for lunch on a Monday and overall, this place really impressed me and I’m planning a second visit to check out more of the menu. I like the décor — it’s modern without being too over the top, and still has a cosy vibe to it. We had a booth seat which would have sat 4 quite comfortably. The menu is pretty standard pub grub and prices aren’t too bad, most mains come in at around £10. I went for the chicken caesar burger because I’ve never seen one before, and I quite like chicken burgers. For £9.95 it was a nice sized burger, brioche bun with chips and coleslaw. My only criticism was that the chicken fillet itself was a little dirty from the grill but nothing major, and it was absolutely delicious. The Parmesan + Caesar dressing was really nice and something a little different for a chicken burger. Service was great, really friendly and welcoming. Our bill for lunch for two was £26 which I thought was reasonable for mains and a couple of drinks. The place wasn’t too busy on a Monday lunch time(but then, nowhere really is) and I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit as this place definitely better than I had expected.

Great bar, been a cpl of times for cocktails and champers. The food looks amazing but haven’t tried it yet so will review that another time. Friendly staff and great choice of drinks. Love the décor, it has a really nice and relaxed atmosphere too.

This review might be slightly deceiving as it is based on one dish, the beef and chorizo red wine pie. Being from another country perhaps this is just an ordinary Scottish pie — but based on the food we have had thus far, it is fantastic. So good in fact we went back for a second time. Its a hearty tasty bit of wonderful! Loving it so much, we would probably pay more, but I feel it is a bit of a bargain at 9 pounds and goes great with a glass of wine. As a side note, although there are many many beautiful buildings in Glasgow(especially compared to Canada), we found the design and architecture in this restaurant warm, inviting and creative.

Popped in here one rainy weekend to try out their take on the traditional Scottish breakfast(fry up). It has kinda become a wee mini mission of mine to find somewhere in Glasgow that does the BEST fry up. Wow, what a crazily unhealthy challenge I have set for myself! Don’t tell my doctor… We were the first customers of the day in here & this was our first visit since The Hill opened up & I have to say I was impressed. The place was totally empty so gave me a good chance to scope it out properly. It’s got a really lovely, fresh, urban city feel/style to the place. I like the photographs on the wall & the fresh flowers is also a nice touch. Staff were very pleasant(apart from one moment when a guy from behind the bar came and almost barged inbetween my boyfriend & I to pick up a candle on the table. Odd & a bit rude) & the breakfast menu looked pretty good. We both opted for The Hill Breakfast(£6.95) which was bacon, link sausage, tattie scone, mushrooms, black pudding, grilled tomato, toast & eggs however you like them. We both chose fried. For the amount you get it’s a pretty decent price considering this is Byres Road/West End it’s just a shame that included in the price you don’t get a tea or coffee. I heard they served Dear Green coffee here so that’s a bonus. I ordered an Americano & it was very nice. The breakfast itself was okay — not great or duff. I wasn’t a fan of the link sausage & would’ve preferred a square one(I am still annoyed they don’t have these in England when I go to visit my family!), the bacon was a bit rubbery & the black pudding wasn’t the nicest I’ve had & actually had a bit of an odd taste to it… Not really a big grilled tomato fan as I usually find them quite bland/tasteless 99% of the time. They gave us a teeny portion of baked beans which was a nice surprise. I would’ve preferred them served in a wee dish though(so there’s no risk of bean juice on everything!) but I know that’s a totally personal thang. I have to mention the music being played in here — we started off enjoying it as they played a few post-punk/’80’s classics and the like but then suddenly that Beautiful South song ‘Don’t Marry Her’ came on… and it WASN’T the censored version if you get my drift… now I am far from being a prude but I kinda thought ‘Is that song really the most appropriate song to play in a restaurant/bar on a Sunday morning…’ There wasn’t any young children in the place but there could have been. Plus, it’s an awful song, ha ha! Apart from that & the odd other cheestastic tune the music was actually pretty good. Not sure if I would come back for their fried breakfast but I would like to come back & try their evening menu food & also see what the place is like as a bar. Oh, one more thing I remembered was in the ladies toilets they had this gorgeous smelling hand cream! It was SO nice. Nice smelling thumbs up for that!

My father and i got stranded on Byres Road last week and argued over where we could go for a coffee and quick snack. Thankfully we passed this brand new beauty and decided to come inside for a quick look. I automatically loved the place because of its design. The furniture and and paintings on the wall were enticing and really brought about a cheery atmosphere. We were greeted automatically and given menus just minutes after choosing a nice little window booth. Neither of us wanted anything big so we decided to do their finger snacks which allowed you to pick three things from a list and you got a small version of each. We decided upon their peri peri chicken wings, nacho’s and hamburger(all of which we would share) It arrived pretty quickly and was presented on a piece of slate in a line. Not only did it look good but it tasted wonderful too! The salsa especially was delightful and we asked for more and got it free of charge(-: My father had to run out of the store to answer a phone call and so i was left alone to glance over the new Fleetwood Mac record i had just bought. The man serving obviously saw that i was a fan and minutes later i heard the mysterious and husky voice of Stevie Nicks blasting through the stereo, they had played Rhiannon(one of my favourites) This made the whole experience 100% better for me and i was very pleased and must of looked very off as i was giggling to myself. The staff, the food and the setting was lovely and i would definitely come back to try it some more. For sport fans they had a large screen with the Winter Olympics projected on screen which some people looked pretty pleased about haha!

I came here with my boyfriend and our mums for a catch-up over Sunday lunch, picking it on the basis that it’s somewhere new! On the Sunday menu, you have the roast of the day(it was beef when we went), a selection of brunch dishes such as fry-ups, scrambled eggs with various toppings etc. and a shortened main menu. Overall a good selection of dishes for whatever your tastes. We 3 ladies opted for the Sunday roast while my boyfriend tried their burger. The Sunday roast was lovely, plenty of roast beef, roast potatoes AND chips, Yorkshire puds and seasonal veg — only gripe was we wanted more gravy, which was quickly provided by staff. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger; it was juicy and flavourful but his only problem was that the bun started to disintegrate with all the juices. Both mums opted for a pudding — apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding. Both smelled epic and were quickly devoured! The bill was pretty reasonable also — about £80 for all that food and a couple of rounds of drinks. The staff are also very lovely and patient — it was a busy day when we went and they coped well with it. Impressed and hope the Hill stays!
