I’ve been meaning to try the tearooms at the botanic gardens for a while now and today I was passing through and called In for a cup of tea to sit in. I expected something a little more than what they where doing here, there was just something missing like an atmosphere, the tea rooms are ok but felt to corporate like or council canteen. There is a display of cakes as you walk in the seating area but sadly they are overpriced bought in items, with a cup of Earl grey and small bought in cheese cake setting you back £6.50, I personally know a place just around the corner where I stay where you can buy a coffee and home made cake for £4.50. Inside the tearoom in the seating area the walls are decorated with colourful oil paintings for sale, some where priced between £50-£100. An ok place if your looking for nothing exciting.

Nice location to have tea, but food(I had a soup) is not good, the menu is very restricted(no salads), and service is slow.

This is a three star review because the Botanics Tearooms are… ok… Kinda lukewarm and not particularly exciting. Located right between the massive greenhouses in the Botanics, the view from the window is lovely. Everything is clean and tidy, the menu is what you’d expect from an Encore-run* venue — panini, sandwiches and baked potatoes with a selection of fillings, scones, afternoon tea, lentil soup. It’s slightly overpriced in the way catering in publicly owned venues tends to be. The food is entirely unremarkable in that it’s not going to get sent back to the kitchen but also isn’t going to set my palate alight. The service wasn’t great, possibly because we arrived in the lull between the lunchtime crowd and the afternoon tea mob and everyone was taking a breather. Or it could just be that the service isn’t great overall. We were left to our own devices after our food arrived and had to hunt down a member of staff to get something to drink and a scone. It’s a shame, really… I wanted to like this a lot. The Botanics deserve a great café. But alas this isn’t it. * Encore have the catering contracts for most city owned venues in Glasgow.
