I think I’m just getting too particular as I get older. I used to fancy going into thrift stores so much when I was younger. Now I just want to buy what I need and what fits properly. Most vintage items never fit properly and I have to get them tailored. anyway… this store is in shambles. It smells bad-as if they haven’t ever washed any of the garments they receive in the place. The setup is poor and the lighting is dim. It’s probably great for someone who wants to sift through and not care about their surroundings. I did find a lovely vintage ruffle collared shirt but I didn’t purchase it. I was weary of the cleanliness of the store so I just left.

This review would normally be a 3 star, but this place saved me in a life-or-death situation recently so they get a bonus star. Before I tell you that story, I’ll admit that I’m not a fan of vintage shopping. Or any shopping that involves rummaging, or really — most forms of clothes shopping. I’d ventured in here a while back and didn’t see anything that really grabbed my attention and I’ve never been back since. But here’s why they get an extra star. It was a Wednesday night, and I was having dinner on Great Western Road before hosting a Unilocal Elite Event that night. I was dressed in a red satin dress and enjoying my chicken skewer when, with some over-zealous stabbing with my fork I managed to flick a large amount of salad dressing down the front of my dress. 10 minutes washing and drying in the bathroom and the oily marks still wouldn’t come out. I looked like I’d fallen front-first into a puddle and wasn’t chuffed with the idea of being seen in public like that! I didn’t have time to go home to change, and the more I panicked, the worse I felt! Where would be open at 5.40pm on a Wednesday night?! Surely, no where? Thankfully, when I turned to my trusty Unilocal app, it showed me that the Ten Pound Thrift Store down the road was open until 6pm. I ran in, found a cute cream & gold knitted vest on the rack which would cover up the marks on my dress perfectly. A mere £5 and off I ran to the event. So — phew. Crisis averted! Note: this is now the £15/kilo store but it still operates under the Ten Pound name!

It’s now £15/kilo. Great place. Great quality second hand clothing. Massive choice.

Stumbled across this new vintage/thrift shop yesterday as I was walking along Great Western Road. My beady vintage eye caught the sign & sniffed out the vintage clothing within(I must be one of the very few people that actually finds great comfort in that vintage clothes/shop strange smell) The sign says exactly what this is ~ a thrift store that sells all vintage clothing items for £10. Simples as that ferret on the tele would say. So don’t do that infamous and HILARIOUS Pound Shop joke of going up to the staff and asking ‘So how much is this??’ with every item. I think they would batter you. Now this is quite a VAST space/shop and everything is hung on big loooong rails for you to sift through and the ladies & gents clothing is separated(ladies on the right as you walk in; gents to the left) Inbetween the two clothing divides there are some accessories bits & pieces & as you walk in a whole line of scarves ~ I really liked this as it made them all really easy to see & myself & The Boy both spotted a scarf each we liked. These were 2 for £10, as were the belts. I think 2 for a £5 or 3 for £10 would’ve been nicer but then that’s just me wanting a super bargain! I had a quick rifle through the dresses & I didn’t see much that I was particularly fond of ~ most of it was either 80’s gear or a bit too ‘evening/ballgown-esque’ for moi. I prefer 1950’s-1970’s clobber personally. This place has only been open for about 3 months so I was told so I’m sure it will only improve with age(like all good vintage shops) so I will definitely visit again sometime & have a proper look through all their stock next time.
