Love this place, especially on a sunny day when you can sit outside. Tad close to a busy road but located high enough that you look out onto the fields. You can’t book outside, so it’s turn up and hope for the best. Inside There’s two sections, a more relaxed area to the right, where you seat yourself and order at the bar. Another area to the left. where it’s table service. The food is lovely, I usually try something different each time and I’ve yet to order something I don’t like. Last time I had chicken pie, delish but a wee bit dry, which is unusual. The last time I went I had a voucher, from a local paper for a free dessert but they usually have a lunch and dinner deal, where you can add a dessert for £2. Well priced at £11 for two courses.

I usually spend every Saturday with my mum without fail, and we often try new cafes or restaurants for a bite to eat at lunchtime. We decided to go to the Tickled Trout on Saturday afternoon. I instantly remembered why I hadn’t eaten there in years — the service. Don’t get me wrong, the staff are pleasant enough but when we were handed our menu’s we weren’t told the soup of the day or any specials even though we were asked if we wanted drinks as we sat down and were taking our coats off. After ten minutes I had to shout a member of staff over to ask for the specials and soup of the day. Another 5 minutes later our water and soft drink arrived. The lunch menu is reasonably priced. I decided on a starter of chicken goujons in a sweet chilli sauce which were lovely, and a fish finger sandwich with chips instead of salad — I instantly thought of being a little girl again and decided I had to have it. I wasn’t disappointed, I liked it very much. The chips were also good, even though they weren’t chunky ‘hand-cut’ chips, you had to pay extra for them. It’s something I think should be a given when dining in a proper pub for lunch. My mum had haddock and chips which she enjoyed, the haddock batter wasn’t over done and she enjoyed it. It was under £8 for the haddock and chips, my 2 courses were under £8. The décor is lovely, although we were quite cold sitting near a window. Overall, the food was good. I would go back for the food. However we waited about 15 minutes between my starter and our mains, we were never approached by any staff to ask if our meals were ok, and I had to actually wave over a member of staff 3 times — to get the soup info, for another water, and for the bill. I don’t know if they’re understaffed, but it seems to always be like that. I remember it being the same when I was last there about 2 years ago. Which is a shame really as for the price, the food was good.

Dreadful — this used to be a fab place for lunch. Went last weekend and it was my first experience of ordering a meal that was truly inedible. Side salad came with mould, lamb shank was completely dried in a foul tasting sauce, the fish pie had 1 prawn and a few pieces of white fish, cauliflower and cheese was completely synthetic tasting. £35 I’ll never see again. Don’t go.

Horid little place stuck out on its own with nothing nearby except for an equally soulless dobbies.

I’m surprised to see such a negative review for this place. I thought it was nice. A step above a pub. I like the country house feel of the Tickled Trout. While the food was not spectacular, it was well priced and was a lot of comfort type dishes. I had tried their Wednesday night steak deal. Which is 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for 25£, not to bad. The wine choice was pretty good and the steak was ok. It had a little more fat than I like. But for the price it is a good deal. It’s like getting two free steak with a bottle of wine. I think the reason I like this place best is because it is just outside of Glasgow and it feels like you crossed a line and are now out in the country.
