An overwhelming sense of disappointment washed over me when I returned to my hometown of Glasgow after a cruel summer in the United States — as one of my all time favourite restaurants was no more! I am of course talking about the late Tony Macaroni of John Street, a staple of Glasgow’s Merchant City and a beloved childhood restaurant of mine!

I went for lunch with a bunch of friends and gave the waitor an impossible order, i asked for no carbs just protein and veggies in an italian restaurant! No cream nothing, and the cook managed to makeup something so superby delicious i felt genuine respect for the place and i plan on visiting one time for a free meal :)

Nice food. Clean, tidy. Plenty of seating. Staff very efficient. No real complaints, however I really cant fault west end Byres rd Tony macaroni. If you are in the west end or near by then I thoroughly recommend visiting here for food. Being brought up in the west end and knowing the place like the back of my hand, if you enjoy Italian then get yourself in here. Price/Quality of food is superb.

Went here recently with a big group, couldnt fault service and food was yummy. However, a bit too much salt for my taste thats my only gripe otherwide great place.

Went to the City Centre branch. My friends and I had the set dinner menu, and you could tell that they scrimp on those. The pizzas all looked a bit sad, and my seafood pasta wasn’t exactly mind-blowing. The desserts we had(tiramisus, I think) consisted mainly of cream… Service was nothing special, but the décor is quite nice. Overall a bit underwhelming.

Excellent food and service. Well worth a visit and good value for money. Would recommend a visit

I’m torn here between two and three stars here — it really was just a quick work’s lunch, from the admittedly excellent looking ‘Express menu’, which is amazing value — but my Pollo Burger(that’s chicken for the monolingual), really wasn’t that good. In fact, I wondered if it should have been the Apollo burger — raw chicken strapped onto a space shuttle, fired into orbit and then cooked on re-entry, so tough and chewy it was. I got as much of it down as possible though as we were short on time. Also, other meals in the group did look genuinely delicious, and the service was swift and friendly. I’m willing to give Mr Macaroni the benefit of the doubt on this one, especially as I couldn’t be bothered to complain. So the upshot is three stars — I’m sure it can do better next time. Just maybe not with chicken.

I just had a lovely little dinner«date» with my friend at Tony Macaroni. Honestly, up until now I used to think that this restaurant and Piazza Italia were the same thing. Anyways, we ordered our drinks and food and everything was pretty yummy. The waiter was very nice and I was pleased with the service. The good thing about this place is that you can sit outside on a sunny day and just enjoy yourself. This isn’t the cheapest place, but at the same time it is not ridiculously overpriced. But if you were looking for cheap drinks, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Great variety on the fixed menu and generous portions: very pleasant staff; good to be able to sit outside on the terrace in the early evening mid May
