I’m not generally that much of a fan of Chinese these days, but the Canton Chef seems to be one of the better ones — tasty, but not MSG-laden and not too salty(ie not the kind of Chinese that keeps you awake at night knocking back pint after pint of water). I booked a table here for Fathers Day and we had a lovely table by the window. The restaurant is tastefully decorated(not at all like your typical Chinese Restaurant!) and large and airy. The service was reasonably good considering there were just two wait staff(what appeared to me Mother and Daughter) and the food was good. We plumped for set menu D which included mixed starters(the prawn rolls were particularly tasty), crispy duck(always a winner), and a selection of main dishes including prawns in black bean sauce, szechuan prawns and stir fried beef with green beans. As always, there was plenty of food left over but we all went home with very full bellys! However, it is a little spendy, and with the bill coming to over £200 for six people its certainly not the cheapest Chinese in town.
