Poppets is a fab childrens shop that sells an interesting selection of new and secondhand stock. For the child in me however, it’s all about the cool wig wam in the window!

I’m not a dad but I popped in here to buy a present for my friend’s baby daughter. I was served by the owner — Kate — who was, in a word, hilarious. She’d just got married and was musing over the fact that her surname was now ‘Noon’ which the rest of the staff all burst out into giggles. Excellent.
The shop stocks new and second hand kids clothes and toys, all are a very high standard of quality (or brilliant as the staff pointed out) and are a little different from your average high street nonsense.
Its all aimed at kids aged 0 – 10 and there’s plenty to choose from. Its a long way from Mothercare!

This shop reminds me of Great Expectations on the Lewes Road, not in terms of it’s stock (because obviously that is aimed at expectant or new mothers/​fathers) but in the way that it’s really about quality things (toys, games, books) for quality children, made by quality parents.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that this shop is definitely for the richer/​yummier mummy who wouldn’t set foot in somewhere so tacky as an ASDA, and who only gives her child Organic Ketchup. Very Brighton.
So if you have the money to afford some very well made and designed toys, come here. If not, just look through the window at the neat displays they have.

If you’re after really sweet kiddies toys and books and all that jazz then you should definitely look in Poppets. Like the name, this is a really cute little store that’ll just make you go «aaaaw» from walking in, to walking out again. With stock that feels robust and well-​crafted, I will definitely be coming back in a couple of weeks to get some gifts for my little niece and nephew. This place is charming and perfect for Christmas shopping for the younger members of the family.
