Tom seems to be a popular Brighton name: with a bar in town and this brilliant sandwich shop just into Hove, Toms all over must be very pleased by their representation across Brighton! In all seriousness, Tom’s Sandwich Shop is a wonderfully good sandwich deli, offering really upmarket flavours for cheap prices. It is a bit out of the way, out on Palmeira Square, but if you happen to be in the area you could do much, much worse. Definitely pop in on the way into or out of town: you won’t be disappointed. Felix, another reviewer above, describes Tom’s a looking a little like a ladies hair salon: I was going to go for upmarket nail salon but the point is the same: from the outside it’s hard to know what to make of Tom’s. I think it was a salon before… they probably should have done something to the shopfront, as most people just walk past: a real shame, as these are some of the best sandwiches available in town. Tom’s seems to specialise in amazing sauces. Sounds a bit weird, but they have some excellent mustards, ketchups and the like, and all of their sandwiches are greatly enhanced by these tasty little bits and pieces. This is also where the deli-aspect of Tom’s comes in: they do sell all of their little pots of sauce as well, and I recommend them over any supermarket brand: for just a little more, you can get some subtle and better flavours. For all of your sandwich needs, Tom’s is more than available, but more than a little out of the way. It’s a shame, as there is so much to be said for Tom’s quality and value-for-money, it just doesn’t seem worth going all the way out of town for a sandwich. Still, the people who work in the area seem to get their fair share… If you’re in the area, give it a go!

Tom’s looks a bit more like a lady’s hair salon, especially with the shiny exterior and tiled flooring. Thankfully, that is where the similarities end between Tom’s and the hair salon profession. I come here relatively often and never leave disappointed, it’s the type of the shop that just does what is asked of it; offering affordable, good quality sandwiches. You can easily pick up an apetising sandwich for a couple of pounds, definitely a shade cheaper than the more central sandwich shops that tend to charge you ridiculous amounts for not very much. I would say however that you shouldn’t travel out of your way to come here; a sandwich is a sandwich(insightful or what?)

Tom’s does everything very well. I used to work round the corner so it was my favourite lunch spot for a while. Everything is tasty, and if your interested in the local-or-not debate Tom’s do the best to source locally. They have an award winning champagne and tarragon mustard which is reeeeally good, so I good I had to buy a pot post sandwich scoffing.
