I have been a few times, usually have the Greek salad which is always lovely. However, each time I have been the service has got slower and slower — not the ideal place to visit on a lunch HOUR! I keep going back as its nice food and pleasant to sit outside on a hot sunny day. Visited today with my husband, I warned him to expect lengthy delays, and as we sat watching the one young waiter struggling with all the orders, realised today was going to be no exception. I heard one family ask what time the specials started and the waiter then disappeared for a few minutes to find out — if he had just looked at the menu board it is quite clearly displayed — 4pm! Another couple behind us had to chase a side order and they had nearly finished their mains. No one came to clear our table from the previous occupants and despite several attemps to gain eye contact, we gave up and went down Princes Ave instead and had a lovely lunch at Garbutts.(By the time we drove down Princes ave, placed our order we would have still been waiting at McCoys) husband not impressed and wont be going back.

Used to live in Hull and whenever I could I would always take the opportunity to go to McCoys. Myself and my fiancé loved the place. Food was great, fresh coffee and other drinks — coffee was fab by the way — and a great, wide ranging menu. The top floor is the best, especially for the comfy leather seats and open fires in winter, warm, cozy, what else do you want? Personally I always found the staff to be really good. Polite, helpful, yes sometimes service was slow but the place is very busy due to its excellent reputation(and deservedly so) and at times the staff are stretched and in my opinion do a good job under demanding circumstances when the place is busy. I have to admit I feel quite nostalgic for the place. It was a little world all of its own! Overall excellent quality, go there you will not regret it!

Would love to give McCoy’s more stars, but it really does itself no favours. I always try and give it the benefit of the doubt(maybe it was a little busy last time… etc…etc…) If you go, head to the third floor. It’s by far the best place to sit in the whole building(especially in winter as the log fire is on). As you walk in, staff will ask you to find a table and they will come to you for your order. DON’T DOTHIS. Place your order with the first member of staff you find! This is the only way to not have to wait an age to be served(even if the place is quiet and a ghost town!) When staff walk through the coffee shop, they seem to try their hardest to not make any eye contact with any of the customers. It is a nightmare to get their attention. The staff range from moody, brisk and slightly rude with the odd smiley happy one. The food and drink are great and fairly reasonably priced(once it gets to your table that is) I once went with a friend for a drink there during the summer. Ordered drinks inside and sat outside. We were waiting ages on a not-too-busy day and my friend went in to see what was the hold up. He found our drinks had been made(could see them behind the counter), but he wasn’t allowed to take them to our table himself due to some health and safety guff. We then waited another 15 minutes for them to get to us. No apology given from the member of staff, who couldn’t have moved away from our table any faster if she’d tried! Having said all this, I will keep going back because it’s in a lovely convenient location and serves good food and drink. If they sorted their staff out, the place would be verging on perfection!

I went for lunch today as it was recommended by a fellow colleague. The place is very pleasant & clean. However the waitress to our table was extremely slow not aware that I was trying to grab her attention. I then had to approach these waitresses to ask if they where serving, interupting there chit chat. My friend & I ordered the chicken & bacon which was excellent with great taste and presentation. However the 35 minutes it took for a toasted sandwich was very unacceptable as I was on a one hour lunch & friend 45 minutes. The waitress never informed of the delay on such a simple order. I may come back but certainly not on a dinner hour & will not be recommending to the 250 employees that i work with. Serving staff need to step up there game. Thank you.

I really like the food at McCoy’s and the coffee is delicious. However, the place is completely let down by terrible service. The first time I went, it took ages for somebody to come over and take my order, and deliver it to my table, and take my money it was mid-week, mid-afternoon and not busy. Because the food was so delicious(I had nachos, which came in a HUGE dish and were served with gorg salsa, guacomale etc) that I thought I would give the place another chance. Bad move, the service was just as bad and this time the server was downright rude. Therefore I won’t re-visit. This is a shame cos, as I say, the food and coffee are fab and the actual place itself is lovely. To the lady who sent me the message about McCoys + how they could prove me wrong: I came in again last week, the service remains the same. Again, my food was great, and such a shame that the staff cannot match this with efficient, friendly service. I notice that there have been several similar reviews, as well as mine, but nothing seems to have been looked at.

A very nice coffee shop, but often crowded. The food is average, but the drinks are nice. The staff are friendly. When I first went in I didnt know whether to go and order at the counter or to sit and wait at a table. I’m glad I didnt go and sit, I coud have been waiting a long time! It is reasonably priced.

there isnt many independent places to stop for a coffee or a bite to it if you are shopping in hull city centre. so if you want a refreshing change from starbucks etc mc coys is the place for you! its often full and hard to find somewhere to sit but that is just a testament to the popularity of the place! they sell lots of different types of fresh coffees so it always smells gorgeous, the food isnt amazing but its ok.

up date 8÷8÷11 we walked out, at the last visit, simply as we went to order, we where told to go find a table and it was table service, well the waiter walked by us, time an time again, the third floor was not busy, only 3 tables with dinners. he avoided looking in our direction, and the last straw came when he went to sit with friends! so after sitting for near 15mins, we left. . as you walk in, you give your order in a small till area. they are more then happy to adjust orders to how you want your food. check the menu outside of the restaurant, they have pasta dishes, sandwiches etc. as i found when you get to the tills its harder to see the menu on the wall. they also sell coffee beans/grounds like peaberry and others, names evade me for now. to take home. seating is on 3 floors and if you want ot go onto the top floor, let the person taking your order know. they will get confirmation that there is a table free, to save you the walk, as the top floor is the most comfy, with sofa’s and cushioned chairs. because of the stairs, as you walk up a short flight to get in, and another short flight for the 2nd floor, i would not call this place push chair friendly! as it can and does get very busy. so, you make your order, find your seating and they bring the drinks/food to your table. the place is nicely decorated, wooden floors, simple wooden tables and chairs on the first 2 floors. and marble tables and leather chairs on the top floor. we normally visit on a sunday for brunch, the portions are healthily generous. the food is always very good! well cooked and presented. poached eggs always done just right! the goats cheese and walnut salad is very good! the BLT when you go large, is a 3 tier affair stuffed with bacon, lettuce tomatoes and is huge! enough for 2 hungry people! they will happily give you a carton to take the rest home in! place is always clean! staff really friendly and helpfull! toilets are basic, clean, alittle pokey but never out of toilet paper! its not a cheap place to go. but its one of them places where i say its well worth going for a treat, a brunch to set yourself up for the day? take that special someone to impress them, as this place will do that! its not posh looking, but the quality of food and the atmosphere, is always just so, never loud, just buzzing with people happily tucking into there food! quiet conversation etc just thought i would up-date have been going intermitantly since i posted this review and its still as good as the 1st time! the BLT go large is still my fav

Nice latte and serve a good breakfast. Comfortable seating on top floor. Recomended if shopping in city centre.
