I was looking for a good place to have lunch, somewhere new and exciting, and I came across the website of Port Side Bistro. I was impressed and intrigued by their menu and was not disappointed. I have visited this location under other ownership and management before, and they finally have seemed to get it right! My friend and I decided that a late Friday afternoon would be the best time to go to avoid any massive queueing and surprisingly we were correct. It was an absolute delight, from the warm atmosphere to the friendly and unobtrusive waitress to the impeccable food. They also had a great selection of drinks, including beer on tap and spirits. All of the food is made with fresh local ingredients, and if there is something that is not on the menu that you want, the chef is quite accommodating if you ask. The restaurant itself is very nice inside, well laid-out, has a good intimate feel to it, and great light from windows that span the front of the building. My companion and I shared the Italian Job Ciabatta(Italian style meatballs sauteed in Napoli sauce and topped with melted Mozzarella cheese), the Bacon and Brie Ciabatta(both came with a side salad and home made cole slaw) and an order of onion rings. Both sandwiches were very large and tasty, but the bacon and Brie had to be my favourite. The onion rings were golden brown, tasty and cooked to perfection. We were both impressed by the exemplary service, fantastic menu, vast selection of drinks on offer, interesting wine list and reasonable pricing. it is nice to have a restaurant in town that has a nice décor, quick service and that is reasonably priced. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for someone looking for great tasting food and good value. I look forward to trying their outdoor tapas menu and enjoying some of their live music evenings(every Wednesday and Friday from 7:30PM) in the future!

Pretty good, uncomplicated, unpretentious food with great service in warm, comfortable surroundings. Perfect little café bar with a nice wine selection in the town centre well worth a visit. The great ingredients really show through and the lack of faffing about with them is probably for the best. I’ve tried the Calamari(delicious), the anti-pasta platter(HUGE and tasty) and a lovely al-dente pasta dish plus a couple of their famous melts all in all yummy. I know I’ll be going back again and again and have already introduced a few of my friends.
