Great bar with an equally great selection of beers and ciders. The food and service was spot on. The fish was one of the best I have had in ages and was a big size. I don’t normally manage to finish a full fish. My only gripe is I would have preferred proper chips and not fries style chips. One of the toilet cubicles had no toilet roll, luckily another did.

Out with a couple of customers about a month ago — we met on Princes Ave(they are both from Hull, Im not) I got a cab from my hotel and under their instruction told the cab driver to take me to Garbuts on «Prinny Ave». I didnt like Garbuts(see review). Left Garbuts and started to walk up the road, when we got to Pave we could hear some live music and saw a busy but not packed bar. In we go. Great selection of beers — I cant remember them all now but a massive choice. Three pints came to a tenner, the bar staff were busy but on their game, I was getting all the rounds in and didnt wait more than a couple of mins each time. The music turned out to be a live jazz trio who seemed to have their own bit of a following, Jazz is not my thing by a mile(depeche mode are my band !) but I do appreciate any good music and have the utmost respect for people who can actually play any instrument. These guys were very good indeed. The pub has a good atmosphere with a lot of obvious regulars. With all this taken into account we stayed on for a couple of hours and it was only the call of the curry house which dragged us away. Next time Im back in Hull I would love to get back here again and as Matt P said, Pave beats the hell out of Weathersoon.

It’s never dull in Hull as they say. THEYLIE. What Hull«is never», is a place you’re likely to find higher priced restaurants and drinkeries which are aimed at the more discerning, cash rich customer… but as a phrase, it doesn’t quite fit on a tee-shirt as well. Pave is one of very few exceptions to this rule within the boundaries of the city, and over the last 4 or 5 years has carved itself a niche amongst those that ‘want more’ than a Carling and some ridged crisps. With a beer and cider selection that could give most of the bars of Leeds a run for their money, along with some of the best bar staff I’ve ever had the pleasure to be served by, the interior of the bar is well maintained and decorated, and out back you can find a mid sized beer garden which catches the sun up until early evening. Take all that and throw in a whole host of event nights which run through the week including live music, comedy and quizes, and it’s not hard to see why it’s easily the best bar in Hull. Pave is a port in the storm; a storm of working class misery and Wetherspoons pubs, and for those that seemingly set sail away from that storm many a year ago, it’s a welcome port, full of busty barmaids and plenty of grog.

Good selection of beers always some nice real ales on and an impressive selection of European bottled beers. Food is excellent too. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

One my favourite places in Hull. Food’s always good when I’ve eaten, plenty of beers on offer. Wish there was more place like Pave, but a bit more off the beaten path so it wasn’t too busy on a night.

This is a great place to eat, or even to have a few drinks with you’re friends. The food is always great and the service is good. I love this place, however sometimes you are waiting ages to get you’re food if its busy. I once waited 40 minutes! But the food was still great, and as long as you have a few drinks to pass the time, it should be fun =). I particularly like the homemade burgers, thier delicious. I have even tried their chinese style salad, which I was weary about but it was actually fantastic! Its a great place to go for adults but some of the tables are very small and if you have young children, it can get bit cramped. They often have live music which is great and creates a very relaxed atmosphere. Love it.

I’ve called here a few times and at first wasn’t that impressed however lately I have changed my view and now don’t mind popping in for a quick bite to eat The last time I called and had something to eat it was very nice the burger I had was homemade and I was very impressed with it, prior to this visit the food has been good and I’ve had nothing to complain about. Quite often they will have a local band on so you get a good atmosphere. There is a lot of competition around here but with this last visit they should hold there own

I don’t rate Pave at all. It’s desperate to be ‘cool’. Food is mediocre at best and garbage at worst, drinks are so expensive — although there is a very large range of beers and ciders, but they are VASTLY overpriced. Staff are not particularly welcoming or friendly — far more concerned that they are looking good and mixing with the ‘in’ folk. The music on a Sunday is utterly, ear-blastingly ridiculous. And the speakers are literally within touching distance of your seat. AVOID, along with most of the jam packed bars on the completely ruined Princes Avenue strip. Oh, and if you do go, don’t forget your hair/nail and eyelash extensions or ‘eclectic’ fashion look. FAKE on all dimensions

Pave is the best of the bars down Princes Avenue. Pleasant enough to eat in(albeit a bit pricey for the food you get) and if you can get in when it’s quiet or on a Sunday afternoon for jazz, it’s nice to have a few drinks in too. You do often get too many little kids in running about, and the smokers leave the back door open too much, so you get cold often, but if you get in when its quiet, it more than makes up for it. The staff need to learn to not be so pretentious and to actually clear tables though.

Pave is your yard stick by which to measure the other places on Princes Avenue. The food is good, but not as good as they might like to think, it also sways sometimes to be a bit pricey for what you get. The beer is pretty good and they usually have a guest ale on which is normally quite acceptable. They have a massive range of lagers and beers to cater for everyone, from normal human beings to idiots who like fancy glasses and paying far to much for their drinks. Their wine selection is the usual middle of the road stuff, it’s a very bland wine menu really, it isn’t that expensive but it isn’t that good either. They are ‘family friendly’, which has pros and cons but as a general rule, it never seems too much like a kindergarten, but it can get close. Like all places on Princes Ave. it sometimes suffers a bit from the bar staff having a ‘better than you’ attitude, they also spend a lot more time trying to look ‘cool’ and aloof than they do serving you, which is an attitude that appears to get worse every time I go there, which is infrequently. They have some live music on which varies in quality, this is not necessarily dictated by if you have to pay to get in to see it either. All in all if you happen to be stuck down Princes Ave. with people who have recently re-discovered themselves ‘bohemian’, or heard that Princes Ave. is the ‘cosmopolitan’ area of Hull; you are best off staying in Pave, it’s the best of a bad bunch really, and they all seem to be getting worse.

Pave has a great range of beers and wines. Always busy. Good jazz music from a weird bunch of looners every Tuesday night. Sundays Too i think. Like most Prinny Ave places it has some nice seats outside so U can watch the world go by.

we go to pave alot to eat as a family. i have a 3 year ol and a 3 month old we take grandmas and grandads and everyone is always catered for and made to feel very welcome. the food is very good and reasonably priced. we sometimes frequent pave on a night out too, not very often though with having children! it is still a nice place to go but the atmosphere is very different as to in the daytime. you’d hardly know you were in the same place! all in all a very nice place to go though.

Probably the nicest place to eat on Princes avenue. Very good atmosphere and food. Happy to serve families until early evening. Can get very busy especially on match days.

Pros: Good selection of beers from around the world. Pleasant atmosphere when quiet(as long as the Jazz isn’t too loud). Great heated outdoor seating area. Fantastic desserts made by local Chocolatier Thomas Francis. Cons: Terribly controversial, I know, but I really don’t rate this place. Too loud and cramped most of the time, the majority of food they serve isn’t up to much, the wine choice is poor and the music is awful.
