Met a couple of customers here about a month ago for drinks prior to dinner. Its a nice enough venue, nice covered terrace to sit outside and enjoy the warmer(then !) weather. Beer selection was OK — I had a pint of stella the other guy had Amstell and the other guy a rum and coke — came to around 12 quid I think. Heres why they only get two stars, the place wasnt full at all, trying to get served at the bar was terrible, the two girls were more interested in their phones that serving me and another two guys waiting a mere 5 feet away. When they did wake up we managed to get a drink ! I probably wouldnt rush back but would say never again — they need to be careful as they are on a avenue with maybe 10 other pubs, and the next one we went to was much better — see review for Pave.

Had a very nice lunch there today. Was told there was a 30 minute wait, which was fine, we had the time. Food arrived and it was very tasty. Tables were cleaned quickly and service was friendly. Will definately go back again.

went to garbutts instead of my usual dukes and was charged £2.50 more than dukes for the same drinks, when challenged i was informed that the peroni is and expensive drink, to which i replied that in dukes, the price is cheaper and you get a proper peroni glass! I had ordered food so waited for it. and was scowled at continuousl by the barmaid and was kept waitnig ages, however, the food was nice and hot and tasted good, shame that the experience was spoiled by feeling ripped off and then glared at by daring to object. Wont go again, it seems that there is no wonder the trade is suffering by the hands of profiteering people who are not considering their future! How many pubs close daily.

Been a few times and its been OK. The last time I went, the staff weren’t very helpful and really didn’t seem to value our custom. We had a young child with us who needed a high chair, but the staff couldn’t fit it properly and weren’t really bothered, so we simply left and this still didn’t bother them. They lost customers, and you would think thats a bad thing?! If you do stay and have a meal, its usually, OK and the portions are a bit over the top. If you have small children I wouldn’t recomend it.

Garbutt’s is definately more of an eatery with not much atmosphere if you just want to sit and drink. However saying that, after Pave it is the second nicest place to go down the horrid Princes Avenue area. The food is reasonably priced if you are just having a snack and the staff are super friendly and serve you very fast, even on busy days.

If i am in the Avenues area(which is quite common as i live there) and feeling lazy but hungry the first place i always check out is Garbutts. It is not an exceptional place by any stretch of the imagination, but it is always clean, the food is reasonably priced and they have some well priced wines(along side the elaborate champagnes etc), a pint of Magners willl cost you the earth though Unlike many of the bars on this street it isn’t really very pretentious and shockingly the staff are quite normal and friendly. They have decent enough menu if you are vegetarian and even if you are vegan and the service is usually very quick, even when it is busy. It is not the kind of place i’d want to make my local, it is more a eating place than a drinking place, but for a quick but not unpleasant meal it is pretty OK. All in all

Garbutts is ptched very accurately at its clientelle, all avenues folk, and odes well. the food is snacky and cheap, the main drinks are slightly up-market(I never saw them sell any of the great wines and champagnes they also proudly display). Never been any food on sale when we have gone — always in evenings. Their live music on Tuesday evenings are usually good — solo acoustic guitar strumming singer-songwriters like Andy Cornfoot, Jess Bannister and Bobby Joyce.

one of the newer café bars in the area. garbutts is very nicely decked out, cosy and inviting. the food isnt as good as some of princes avenues other eateries but thats probably my own personal taste. theres definitely nothing wrong with it the drinks seem slightly more expensive in here though.

Garbutts is quite new to the area and is definately my favorite bar for food. I often visit with work friends for dinner and have always had great food and great service. The variety of dishes is fantastic with something to suit everyone and all at really great prices The food all seems to be cooked to order and The chunky chips are to die for. The seating is great and the bar often has live music although I have never been there late enough to see any and as the seating areas are quite compact I’m not sure how good it would sound. It’s a great atmosphere whether you are out with friends or family.
