Nice English pub on the, now very popular, Newland Avenue. Although the menu is limited, the food is good. They also do some good offers, such as 2 meals from the grills menu, including steak, and a bottle of house wine for £22. There is also a specials board. The day we visited, it was quite quiet, which was surprising considering the warm night and the good food. It didn’t take long for our food to arrive. It was hot and well presented. I had ordered the chicken and pasta. It was slight too hot(spicy) for me and just hope I’m not suffering in the morning. Everyone in the party complimented the food. The home made chips where really nice! As was the garlic bread. All in all, the service was good, as was the food. We will defiantly be back!

Amazing pub. Great selection of hand pulled ales, continental lagers and bottles from around the world. Hull are also very lucky to have a pub which provides Lindisfarne fruit wines and mead and up to 8 flavours at that !! The food menu is also extensive with a daily specials board and all the food is prepared using locally sourced produce by some of the norths best chefs. Xanders also invite Hulls own Off The Road music to there humble abode every Sunday night from 8:30pm to 12:00 midnight for a weekly open mic night. The acts at these nights range from fire jugglers to keytar players to blues musicians. Xanders is an awesome pup all round, it has everything !

I went to Xanders a couple of nights ago for an evening meal. The food was reasonably priced, with a portion large enough to satisify even my appitite, and very good. There are no starters, and a limited range of deserts, but the main meals have something for everyone and change regurlarly. The drinks selection is large, with real ales, ciders and largers a plenty. The are about 15 wines at £12-£13 a bottle, including several fruit wines, and a mead. I will defiantly be going back for steak night on Wednesdays, and for a lunch.

Ok. The beams are as fake as the rest of the cod rustique, but that doesn’t stop Xanders being pleasant, Franky and Bennies ersatz-ness aside. Weekday lunch-time, the bar is not heaving nor dead, just right for an escape from work for an hour or so. Drinks-wise there is a good array of choice, not bewildering multiple options of the same type, just a Good few bitters, lagers and a cider on tap. These are added to by an excellent selection of bottles. Carling and fosters fans will be disappointed, but then they should be shouldn’t they! I ordered a pint of Black sheep which was reasonably kept(would be better if more was drunk I suspect). The menu is simple and, to benchmark the place, I opted for the burger with rustic chips. It arrived very quickly, possibly too quickly and suggestive that some ding-ding cookery was at work. My suspicions were confirmed by the unpleasantly floppy chips. The burger was pleasant enough, if a little offaly and vinegary up against the mozzarella accompanying it in the bun. All in, at a touch over £9 for a burger and a pint Xanders should have done better.

Tried Xanders for Sunday morning coffee with friends and we were very happy with our choice. Staff were friendly and efficient, coffee very good. Food smelt and looked great so we’ll be returning to try out food on our next visit.
