Planet Coffee is probably one of the best known coffee shops in the Avenues area of Hull. They have a great selection of hot drinks, gorgeous cakes and lovely comfy sofas. You never feel ad though you’re being rushed to drink and get out, borrow one of the papers by the door and relax. Free wifi also available. On one occasion they did seem to close a fair bit(40 minutes) earlier than they were due to so if you’re going late it might be worth double checking before you travel. But on the whole we really like going there.

long standing coffee shop on newland avenue but still managing to go from strength to strength amongst all the new ones, got a pretty loyal following with locals but also very popular with students. very friendly staff and a lovely cosy haven!

Planet Coffee is a very nice venue. They have a large range of Fairtrade which is also good. I love their hot chocolate. It’s not my very favourite but I do like it!

Planet coffe is a large coffee shop that is always full, and catering to large numbers of students who don’t have a proper coffee shop on campus. Their drinks are good, and so is their food(which you could consider a light lunch) but expect to pay over the odds for it. Having said this, I did used to frequent this shop regularly, and they are generally friendly. They do not have a large enough premisis to hold the number of people who want to visit, especially as(as with most coffee shops) they are usually clogged with long-term visitors who buy a coffee every now and again and use the wifi. The staff all seem to be friendly except one man, who is in there very frequently(maybe the manager) who seems overworked and sometimes quite rude. Having said this, the rest are very happy to help and work very efficiently. Wifi is free, but you will need a password that you can ask for at the bar. Don’t think you are safe from cyber attacks though — they do not use any protection on their system, so use at your own risk.

I have lived in Hull for nearly two years now, but have only gone into Planet Coffee recently. It always seems busy, even in the early evening, so I thought I’d give it a go as it was sunny, and there are outside seats. I wish I’d been in before. The selection of drinks is extensive, almost to a fault as I struggled to decide. I was surprised when I saw on this site that the average review is a 3. I can see why. I haven’t actually had a coffee yet, so cant comment on that, but the other drinks are sensibly priced. The selection of cakes is good, and tasted fantastic. I don’t know what some of the other reviewers are talking about, possibly the best coffee shop I have ever been too, defiantly better than starbucks or costa.

I visited Planet Coffee for the first time with two of my friends, one of whom had already been quite a few times. As I am a major(and i mean major) ‘Friends’ fan(reluctantly adding that i may have an addiction), i instantly loved the décor and atmosphere of the shop, as it vividly reminded me of ‘Coffee Perk’ in the well known sit-com, although I was disappointed when I was told that ‘Friends’ was shown on TV in the lounge area, but is no more, so i would love for that to start up again. I doubt it’s somewhere many teenagers my age would like to go, but it definatly appeals to me and my group of friends. The coffee and all other hot drinks are all mainly to my taste, and you can’t go wrong with soft drinks, sandwiches and cakes are all delicious. Great place to go to escape the rain, overcome boredom, catch-up with old friends or just to hang out. Perfect little hideaway, just like Coffee Perk!

This is a great little coffee place down Newland ave, and is especailly great during breaks when you’re at uni because there isn’t much choice on the campus… But anyways, Planet coffee has a great atmosphere and offere a range of hot and cold drinks as well as little treats such as muffiuns. All of the drinks that I have tried are delicious but sometimes I find that they can be a bit to rich and get a bit sickly. But I guess noone forces me to finish the whole drink, but its so good that I simply MUST! Its a great place to realx and meet with you’re friends! Would recomend it to anyone who loves coffee, hot chocolate, tea, or muffins! Make a refreshing change from Starbucks!!! =D

Located on Newland Avenue is this big, relaxing and friendly coffee bar. Spread out over two floors and a outdoor seating area offering a wide range of hot and soft drinks along with little indulgencies of home made cake and cookies! Depending on your taste you could have a nutty hot chocolate, chocolate orange flavour hot chocolate, expesso, capucianolike i said they had the works even down a range of tea’s! They also cater for those with intolerances such as having soya milk avaiable upon request. A great place for socialising and is open until 10pm so no need to cram in that catch up — take your time! It’s like the british star bucks!

Used to be a quirky relaxing and cheap place to go for a coffee or herbal tea. Now it’s far too trendy, expensive. The coffee is poor(I have had better instant coffee) and the service is non existent and when /if you get served the staff are rude and pretentious. They do not like to clear tables either.

The last time i went here i walked out without being served as the two people working there were talking about what an amazing(read: boring) night they had last night to each other. I was at the front of a short queue which got longer. I have been successfully served coffee here; it was expensive and rubbish. Why do i even go to these places? — UPDATED… I wrote that review a while back, as it happens I went here again in 2011 — it was infinity better, the coffee was pretty decent the staff seemed to notice that they had customers, even though it was really busy everything seemed very organised. It wasn’t a mind blowing experience or anything but as far as this kind of coffee shop type place goes it’s pretty good, I’d go back there without scowling too much now.

This was one of the first coffee shops to open up in Hull. Initially frequented by Students from the Local University but has now become a place for a range of people: business men, local residents etc The thing that makes me come back to Planet Coffee again and again is the atmosphere(large leather sofa’s soft lighting and good music) as well as the obscene coffees(which my sister introduced me to). The other great thing about Planet coffee is that it’s open till 10 everynight other that sat nigh when it closes at 8. I would certainly recommend visiting Planet coffee on newland Avenue. It’s has a very comfortable atmosphere and great coffee.

A really nice atmosphere, and friendly staff, and you can sit upstairs and watch Friends on TV or sit downstairs and listen to the Cranberries. To add to the bad coffee, I mostly drink hot chocolate, it is overpriced but nice. The orange hot chocolate is, however, disgusting! I agree that the cakes are usually stale. It used to look different and be much more customer-friendly, a few years ago it got refurbished to fit as many people as possible in, and it seems to be geared towards making money. I think it is still riding on the popularity and the reputation that it had build up before it became a money-making machine.

So it’s pretty average and used to be great when it first opened. It’s very expensive for what you get and the coffee is foul. The chocolate shakes are good though as are the obscene hot chocolates with the little sweets on the saucer. A nice place to go to get out of the rain, just don’t drink the coffee and you’ll be fine :)

Good location and pleasant inside, but the coffee is appalling and the cakes pretty stale and awful. You can’t go too far wrong with a cup of water and a tea bag, I suppose, but it’s pretty expensive for the way it is served.

Coffee is always great and with free wifi it is ideal location to sit and surf the net while sipping on a cappucino.
