I was with friends and not very hungry so after walking around the food court a few times, I settled for this place. I just decided on a butty with egg and chips. Something very basic. It was simple yet I really enjoyed it. There are times when you get fed up with burgers and that night, I could not handle a big portion of fish & chips, as it seemed that they served.

These people get about! They are not longer based in one location(commercial street) but tour around as far as I know. However any local event which involves food and they are usually there. Such as Kirkstall Deli Market at the Abbey on the last Saturday of every month, or the farmers market on Briggate, as well as Leeds Loves Food and others. Their food is great, if you can’t choose between the lemon and chilli fish or the black pepper then choose both! Thought the chilli is especially good. Vegetarian? As for their battered halloumi! May I say more? Even if you are a raging carnivore this stuff is divine. Portions aren’t huge, but they don’t need to be. Fish& clearly use the finest sourced ingredients they can find and this really comes through in their food which is freshly cooked to order. I think they are bookable for events too, a friend of mine wants them at their wedding — what a great idea. Try fish& whenever you see their hut, you won’t be disappointed.

Checked this place out for a quick snack Saturday afternoon as the smell was very enticing! Slight queue but friendly service and i like food cooked to order so I didn’t really mind a little wait. (the people in front of us were not happy with the wait though as they had 2 small kids with them who weren’t very well behaved!) Opted for the lemon/lime and chili battered fish and was delighted with it. Not blown away by the chips though– they had a bit of an odd taste to them. The ‘fish bits’ I’d call them, were lovely. Fresh tasting fish, crispy batter and a decent size portion for £3.50! I’m not a big fish lover so I doubt I’ll be trying the mackerel bap or salmon but the menu is exciting and it’s good to see a bit of competition for the usual lunch fodder. Great location too, just near Clarks so very handy for most areas in the city centre to nip out for a very good lunch. Give them a try!

You have to understand that this is very much an interim review as I have only sampled the famous mackerel sandwich and I need to go back to check out the fish with a twist. I have intended to stop and buy at Fish& for quite a while but it’s not often i get into the city centre and rarer still to be free to indulge. I ordered my mackerel sandwich and while it was prepared I chatted mainly about Fish&‘s gluten free stuff. It was apparent that they really knew what was what regarding gluten intolerance and I know without a shadow of doubt that I can trust these people. My mackerel sandwich really was a mackerel in a roll and it was delicious!

Now I’m a girl who loves a nice portion of fish & chips. So I was delighted when I found out that the Fish& hut had a spot in the city centre near WH Smiths on Tuesdays-Saturdays providing street food to hungry Loiners. I’d encountered Fish& before a couple of times: at Kirkstall Deli Market and LeedsLovesFood, so I knew what to expect. Delicious fishy goodness, that’s what! There’s plenty on offer, from the sublime Lemon Lime & Chilli battered sustainably sourced haddock, to the scrumptious Salmon & Sweet Potato fishcake in a bap. And not just any bap. An Anthony’s bap! All food is cooked to order, which for me is a completely brilliant thing, but it’s worth factoring in to your plans if you’re dashing there on your lunchbreak from work. This is not production line fast food so be prepared to wait 5 mins or so while your food is cooked. But it’s definitely worth the wait, and the money. A full-sized portion of fish & chips(enough to satisfy a hearty appetite) is a fiver, with the fishcake bap coming in at £3.50(prices correct at time of writing!) If you like fish, you’ll love Fish&. Get yerself down there.

Now that the Fish& crew have their stall on Commercial street there’s no stopping me from enjoying a gourmet fish-related lunch when I’m in town. Oh yes. When I discovered that they’re now regularly serving up the good stuff to the folks of Leeds, in the centre of town, I was delighted and couldn’t resist grabbing something tasty from them as soon as the opportunity arose. And tasty barely covers it. It seems their menu regularly changes to offer up a few surprises, so keep an eye out, but on this occasion it was the lime and chilli battered haddock and chips that caught my eye. Hook, line and sinker, you might say, if you were unabashed at offering up such terrible puns.(Like me!) So, I ordered up one of those for myself and happily watched as my fish was battered, fried and served then and there. The chaps are always up for a bit of friendly banter and as I’d missed the lunch time rush my food came within minutes! Parfait! I chose to partake of a bit of their garlic mayo, which in itself is a thing of beauty, and off I went. For five of your English pounds you too can experience the stomach-filling delights of lime and chilli battered haddock with chips and garlic mayo. The batter was delicious, not too spicy, lightly cooked and so full of flavour. It wasn’t heavy, which was fantastic, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The chips alone are a feat of taste and excellence, but paired with possibly the most delicious garlic mayo known to Leeds, it’s a combination to send you into a finger-licking frenzy. What can more can I say? The fish chowder is awesome. The fish and chips are divine. The guys there are so friendly and I can’t wait to try the next new thing they put on offer. Gourmet fish and chips, anyone? All aboard the flavour boat… !

Sampled these guys at a couple of random Leeds events so was excited to see them set up in a beach hut close to my work near WH Smiths in the city centre. I had a salmon and sweet potato fishcake in a bap with some chips and ate them in the sunshine listening to one of the many fab buskers around the city — absolute bliss. One major downside was the waiting time-waited at least 15 minutes for our food and there seemed to be a lot of people waiting around. My companion had to get back to the office which was further away and got quite agitated. Luckily the food came up trumps and all was forgiven!
