Steakz and Shakez

Why on earth someone would want to name their shop Steakz and Shakez in the first place in beyond me. The mix of the two is incredibly undesirable as it is, but what is equally, if not more baffling is that this place sells neither. It’s a cheap attempt of desperately trying to find an awful takeaway name that has not been used to death, particularly in Kirkstall Roads haven of bog-​standard takeaways. As Susan states, as does it’s front door, it is a smoothie and steak bar that absurdly doesn’t stock steak at all, but other cuts of meat.
I was all up in arms about this place, and to a certain extent still am, however, my boyfriend pointed out to me that it is close to the Fitness First gym, and the way he sees it, the idea of protein and shakes are intended to lure in gym folk, and then leave them with the choice whether they would prefer to eat their way out of the excercise they pointlessly just did, or have a healthier option that will compliment their body sculpting intentions. Believe what you like, I hate the name.

I don’t know what it is, but there’s something I find disturbing about the idea of a steak and milkshake bar. Actually, I think I do know what it is, and it’s got something to do with that urban legend about Mcdonald’s milkshakes containing beef. Thankfully, there can be no such confusion here, as despite being named ‘Steakz and Shakez’ this establishment doesn’t actually sell milkshakes or, indeed, what we traditionally think of as steaks, instead serving smoothies and cuts of lamb. The rest of the menu is made up of India fare, indicating that there are presumably cultural and/​or religious reasons why Steakz and Shakez doesn’t serve steak. Nonetheless, it is a pointlessly misleading name, and the blatant attempt to Americanise this business to maximise its appeal grates on me more than the bog-​standard food. This is a typical takeaway serving typical food… don’t let its bizarre attempt at branding lead you to believe any different.
