It may have been years since I last updated on this fabulous shop, but time has changed nothing when it comes to this delightful vintage haven. Imelda is as wonderful and forthcoming as ever, despite the end being nigh. It’s with great deal of sadness to announce that treasure hunters of the aged kind that you have but a few weeks left to indulge and rummage the bounty within. The shop hasn’t changed a jot, with rail upon rail lining this veritable cupboard of vintage, the shelving above still housing all kinds of accessories and accoutrements of the time old description. In general, those hunting out a truly unique ball gown, stylish tuxedo, 40s style trousers, and range of exciting dresses will be in luck. There is still the odd surprise –antiquated material, 70s knits and other quirky finds to boot. Essentially, what you do not unearth, Imelda will invariably suggest, often to great success. Indeed, on my last visitation, she proffered an incredible kaftan dress, three pairs of high waisted trousers and a 30s crêpe dress coat. Of course, they were all perfect, and I had no other option but to take them all. My prized possession is now, however, something I had spotted of hers at least two years ago: a full length red velvet coat, which is simply divine. I can hardly express how delighted I am with this striking coat. Essentially, there’s only a small amount of time left to visit this wonderful shop, so I can only urge you to delve in. Every item is now discounted, some by a hefty 50%, and much of the stock is utterly unique. Given that vintage items are often one offs, now is the time to seek out something special. Almost everything has a story, and Imelda is the perfect minstrel, so hop off the beaten track of Otley road and soak in some history before it’s too late.

I agree with Rowena H, the woman who runs this shop is one of friendliest shop owner I have ever come across, she is insightful and so knowledgable of her stock, it is very impressive. The Final Curtain is a mecca of old tox’s and extravagent dresses, and although I couldn’t see myself in much of her stock, it is an immansely fun browse. Each piece has a story, and the lady in there is happy to chat away about her collection for ages-in a good way. If you are not into old vintage items, she also sells charming handmade kitted hats and scarves. It is easy to walk by without a second look, but honestly, go in! It is one of the most ecclectic and brilliant genuinely vintage shops I have come across in Leeds.

With its bright orange paintwork, chipboard sign and dayglo window displays, the Final Curtain doesn’t look like your first stop for classy, vintage fashion. Put first impressions aside, however, and you’ll find that this tiny gem of a shop is brimming with beautiful, formal items like ballgowns and tuxes, as well as more classic dresses, skirts, suits and accessories of all shapes and sizes. With ballgowns and vintage tuxes starting at £20 the shop is particularly popular with students before their Freshers’ and Summer balls, so if you’re a student start shopping early and if not give these dates a wide berth. Finish off your outfit with a 1930s handbag or vintage tie and you’ll be ready to paint the town red.
