Clas Ohlson

Always a very interesting shop to look around in. I always like to see what offers they have on little gadgets that I might need. Once they had a good offer on lava lamps which was very tempting, but I managed to hold it off.

In the past we have bought quite a lot of items from here, as they seem good quality and are a good price, however their customer service is absolutely appalling! I bought a decorative light for a relative in Essex for Christmas, she told me that it didn’t work so then we had the dilemma of her paying the postage to send it back so I could return it to Liverpool store or me trying to resolve it with C O direct. I went for the latter, what a mistake, I have been in email dialogue with them since January; I sent the receipt as requested, my phone number as they wanted to call me (they haven’t), everything they have asked for I have done. They have promised to send the relative” a new one, then when I e mailed to say it hadn’t arrived they said that they were out of stock and would give me a refund. So several weeks later I am still waiting, at every stage of this I have felt that they were just playing me along hoping I would give up, they never had any intention of sorting it out. I can’t find any head office email or number otherwise I would be getting in touch with the managing director. So be warned, particularly if you are thinking of buying expensive items, if anything goes wrong don’t expect that it will be resolved.
Such a shame that a relatively good outlet has such very poor customer service.
PS no I haven’t given up, determined to get consumer rights!

Being a woman who is currently in the process of buying a house — and who requires a hell of a lot of crap to go in aforementioned house — I love Clas Ohlson. It’s like a more downmarket Ikea, filled to the brim with everything and everything a person could require to make their life go that little bit more smoothly. Indeed, I’m more than a little guilty of walking out of here quite often with stuff I don’t need, but buy anyway because it’s cheap and might come in useful on a rainy day. And, after all, as a wise man once told me, you can never have enough lightbulbs.
See, Clas Ohlson sells everything, apart from food and clothes. Tents, tools, wheels, rat traps, picnic equipment, coffee makers, pots and pans, axes, pet bowls, lights, patio weeders, electrical circuit boards, tea bag squeezers, pots, pans and computer accessories. If you can name it, then there’s a very large likelihood that they sell it. There are a bewildering 100,000 lines in stock, all of which are being sold at ridiculously low prices.
I’ve heard people compare it to somewhere like Wilko’s or even Poundland, but frankly it’s much better than that. And, in a Woolworth’s-less-world, we definitely need more places like this for when we run out of those all important things like Blu Tack and paperclips.
Take my word for it — Clas Ohlson really is class. The only thing which could make this place any better was if they sold Pick and Mix. Swedish people enjoy Pick and Mix too, don’t they?

This place is briliant. I was taken aback by how really useful most of the items in here are and at such cheap prices!
I only wandered in being a good Unilocal scout to sus out what the craic was with this new ‘Ikea type place’ as it had been described to me. For a start I wasn’t confronted with any daunting flat pack furniture so always a bonus.
But I was surprised by how many useful items I had found. I guess I was expecting a Swedish Poundland or Scandinavian Home Bargains — everything dead cheap but nothing you actually need. CH mainly deals in electrical goods and small home furnishings like clocks, electric razors some tools and even stationary.
I think that I was just blinded by the great prices because it is only a small department store after all but if your moving to a new home get unfurnished and just load up here.

Clas is class! It’s a great shop for picking up a wide range of products at very reasonable prices. Also, they offer a 30 day money back guarantee and a two year warranty on most of their products. They are new to the city, and have recently taken over the doomed trading space which was previously occupied by Virgin and then Zavvi!
The best way to describe the sections and variety of the products that this Swedish gem sells is by splitting it into sections. They have sections for Electrical, Hardware, Home, Leisure and Multimedia. They always have offers for bulk bys and collections of items, as mentioned in a previous review about camping stock.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and they know the store and the stock really well!

I went into Clas Ohlson looking for camping gear and came out with milkshake. What a productive day!
They were advertising a blender at £9.99 and to show just how good it was, were making free handouts of banana and caramel milkshakes with ginger biscuits. I love you Clas! (Not easily bribed at all…).
As for the camping gear, they have some great offers on for the summer, I go festivalling soon and needed to buy all the essentials that have somehow gone missing in the winter months!
The festival survival kit (or campingstuf– I love how they use English words in an Ikea-​esque manner) is a sound buy especially if you’re chipping in with a friend as we got a 4 man tent, two sleeping bags and roll mats for £49.99.
I always forget to take a folding chair which is gutting when it starts raining and you have to sit on the muddy ground but they have them on sale here for a fiver so I’m definitely going to pick one up before I go away!
They have all sorts of stuff on offer here and it’s all very useful as they suggest! Just wandering round makes me want to buy things that I really don’t need, but might one day come in handy.
They trick you with their milkshakes and their biscuits and cheap prices… I’m just lucky I didn’t come out with a blender too. Their powers of persuasion are strong!

You know what I’m not a fan of Clas Holson or Olson or Ohlson or whatever it’s called. I really am not. First time I walked into the store, you wanna know how I felt? Well the experiance I’d compare to sitting down for dinner and sinking your teeth into nan bread full of grass, bland!!!
HOW on earth you can get excited about … a trolley case… or a wireless rain gauge or a wireless thermometer or ANY of the millions of random uninteresting things on display I shall never know… How oh how??? As I walked through the store I felt claustrophobic, I felt depressed and walked straight out. Now unfortunately, my mother happens to love the place which means I have to go through this painful experiance more often than I’d ever like. It seems I have made my peace with it.
After numerous conversations and visits, the mother has brought me round to see the appeal. For those of you who own your home and are looking to constantly dress it up and make it look pretty, I get it! For you guys… it really is heaven isn’t it? Besides I’ve found my very opwn section which is slightly more to my liking… the leisure section. This section and I get on well to be fair. It just has these little gadgets that just about tickle my fancy and I know will come in very handy on camping trips (might even impress the other half and gain me browny points… yizerrr) The frisbeeeee for example… weeeeeeeeee…
Fact of the matter is there is bound to be something of interest for you here, there is so much in stock.

Bright, white and blue, Clas Ohlson looks like something from the dreams of a 1950s East Berliner. Its shelves are fully stocked with objects intended to be practical to the extreme (well, except the fiber-​optic Christmas bush) but it isn’t heavy on the choice.
Looking round you realise they only really sell one kind of everything. There’s the one kind of wireless rain gauge, here’s the one kind of citrus press. Dammit, if there’s one thing I like to compare brands of, it’s apple corers. They advertise themselves as a shop to pick up everything you need, but it’s all the kind of stuff you could really just wait for. You’re not on Come Dine With Me. You don’t need to dash to town for a pineapple cutter.

Clas Ohlson is basically Ikea minus the pot plants, sofas, dining tables, wardrobes, beds, chest of drawers and meatballs.
Everything else you can get in Ikea — cutlery, saucepans, plastic bowls, coffee makers, cups, plugs, kitchen equipment, lamps, electronics, hardware, plant pots, picture frames, storage units, stationary, BBQ sets and tools — they sell. The prices are just as cheap, the signs are just as baffling and the shop feels just as clinical and soul-​less.
The one advantage this new Scandanavian store has over it’s nearest competitor is you can actually find your way out easily!

A rash of these ‘usefulshopps’ have been opening across the UK trading on the reputation of Scandinavians when it comes to low prices and high quality. Honestly these places are not nearly as useful as they like to think they are.
While they’re okay for picking up some things — reasonably price coffee makers, cheap kitchen scales, budget Philips headphones (particularly useful when you have a mammoth train journey to take and your last pair have packed in) — other things are unnecessarily expensive and poor in quality. I had the same problem twice with a SCART lead bought from here. Though they were happy to exchange the item and in the end to refund me the cost it was still a bit of an irritation. In the end I just went to a pound shop and picked up another one which has since lasted me for a lot less money (a pound in fact. Shock.)
And this is the dichotomy here — they sell almost everything you need here but there’s no guarantee it’ll be reasonably priced or of a decent quality.

This used to be Virgin which then used to be Zavvi which now masquerades as Ikea’s little brother. Yes, Clas is fantastically useful, as it claims, and a lot easier to get to than Ikea, but without the flat pack furniture. Imagine, if you will, a combination of Wilkinson’s and Ikea, and you’d be on the right track.
My friend got very excited when he saw there was a photography section, however when he got there he found it was full of disposable cameras and picture frames, not the high tech stuff he had anticipated. Still, this is a decent store for bargains, and in the first week of it opening they handed out free pepperkaker (traditional gingerbread biscuits). Now, being of Norwegian descent, I’m a huge fan of pepperkaker, so I obviously visited the shop a fair bit. My first love is definitely for Ikea (which, did you know, is pronounced ick-​ee-​ah in Scandinavia) but when needs must, I’ll be a Clas gal!

Today was the first time I had even heard of Clas Ohlson, let alone stepped foot in one. I wandered in intruiged as at first I thought they had planted a mini-​IKEA in the middle of Clayton Square. As I mooched around the store, trying to establish what it is I saw many signs claiming it to be a «useful shop». I have to say, I completely agree! The store sells almost everything from DIY tools, electronics, gardening things, stationery and more. The prices are pretty decent, not as cheap as somewhere like IKEA but it is a much smaller chain. I will definitely visit again and hopefully soon — one of those stores you can easily get addicted to.

Clas Ohlson is a Swedish store which opened earlier this week and sells a variety of different products from electronics to crockery. Liverpool should be so privileged to have a unique store like this because it is one of only 7 stores open in the UK.
To celebrate the opening, visitors were made to feel welcome at the doors where staff handed out mini catalogues and promotional leaflets in a carrier bag plus free tea, coffee, orange squash and Swedish biscuits served on the second floor! There was even a lookalike Abba outdoor performance today playing all their classic tracks; this built up a really joyful atmosphere!
On my first visit, I was amazed to see that the interior had been completely transformed since it replaced the Zavvi store. The place can feel a bit crammed at times but considering the amount of visitors in the first week, I shall let them off. Prices are reasonable and not overly expensive. I bought an 8GB Sony USB flash drive for just £10.
I will definitely visit here again as the range of products covers most household needs for both genders and it’s an ideal place to buy the odd gift.
