This place is over the road from my house and has a good breakfast menu although some times runs out of stuff like sausages and replaces it with bacon or whatever. My girlfriend likes the pancakes and syrup I prefer full English but full English is a bit small for the price cost me 15 quid odd for 2 brekkies when you can get a massive brekkie in garston for a fiver, granted this is a fancy rose lane café but come on its a bit expensive for what you get.

what kind of short opening times are these?! Who has time during office hours(so far away from the main university campuses?)

I have a love /hate relationship with Espresso Plus. I love their rich, robust coffee. I love their nutty and earthy carrot cake. I love their deep, intense chocolate cake. I love their comfy sofas and outside seats. I love their free magazines and newspapers. But I hate, hate, hate their choice of muzak.

Close to Allerton Road in a more suburban part of the city, you’ll find one of a number of dinky, quirky and cute little establishments. Espresso Plus does what it says on the tin — it has the coffee to wake you up and then some. With a cosy interior, comfy furniture and a homely vibe as well as enthusiastic smiley staff, you’ll instantly feel relaxed. Need a pep? The coffee here should certainly set you right. And the free newspapers to read are always a plus(not just a clever name!) as far as I’m concerned. The prices aren’t crazy in the slightest but the portions definitely are, crazy generous. Not to be sniffed at! It’s very peaceful and gentle and thus makes a very cool place for an intimate or friendly catch-up or in fact somewhere to kick back with a good book or set to work with the laptop. Food here is fresh, homemade and superb value. Special mentions go to the soup which varies and is always hearty and delicious, and indeed the delicious cakes. Little touches like potato wedges with the sandwiches and an additional dip for the wedges really round off the experience, and I for one can’t fault it. If I’m back in the area soon I’ll make it my first port of call.

This is definitely one of my favourite coffee bars to pop into. It has the best hot chocolate ever, coated with marshmallows and other goodies! A perfect winter-time treat(or maybe even in summer if you sit outside with it, I guess that could just about be acceptable). The establishment also does great smoothies, milkshakes(I had vanilla, it was to die for…), cakes, muffins, soups, and sandwiches amongst other things. With a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, it’s the perfect venue to catch up with friends whilst enjoying a coffee or light lunch. So if you’re a mite peckish, go and make yourself comfortable on a squishy sofa in this cute coffee bar and order an espresso and muffin!

The main rival to Amber’s lunchtime crown along Rose lane, Espresso Plus is a more relaxed and laid back experience although that relaxed attitude can often lead to frustration as I have often found them wanting to close up much earlier than advertised just because they are not busy enough — I never enjoy trying to wolf down a muffin and an americano because someone is sweeping discreetly around me. However, call in around breakfast time or before 2 and Espresso is good place to get a sandwhich, light meal or just a coffee — that’s if you can put up with the Michael Buble style muzak!

After a long day I sought solace and found it in the twinkling lights within Espresso Plus; the name is a little cold but inside is definitely not! Full of character and pretty touches(I love the heart shaped light that hangs over the couches in the chill out corner at the back!) The café was just really friendly and welcoming, even though I caught them a little before close they still happily served me my steaming hot leek and potato homemade soup with crusty floury chunks of baguette.(£2.45– not bad, huh?) Just what I needed to put a smile back on my face and help me get back out into that big bad world! They also have a hot chocolate that is Divine, called«Anna’s special» which makes it even cuter, topped with marshmallows and maltesers! Yum! The staff were lovely and they’re open late on Saturdays, they also have a full menu with breakfasts and mains which I’m yet to try out, but I’m 100% going back for more! I give Espresso Plus an A +!
