An utterly fantastic place that I’ve been visiting for about six years or so. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They offer a huge range of unisex services, though I have only been here for a cut and a couple of times to dye my hair so I can’t comment on them all. If, however, they offer the same top service for everything else then it’s top notch to say the least. They sell a lot of products on-site, ones which you wouldn’t be able to just go and buy in the shops. They can be quite expensive but they’re worth it as they’re high-end, extremely effective and long-lasting. It takes a lot for me to find a hairdressers I like but this is the one. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

A sign of the metrosexual, cosmopolitan times that we live in is the unisex services offerred by Wood Street’s Hooka. Once upon a time not too long ago such a place would be greeted with suspicion and even laughter on the streets of Liverpool. Surely such a place is only for those London types?!! Well Hooka has been providing beauty and pampering services for women and — from what I can gather more popular with — men for several years now without so much as a raised eyebrow. As you would expect from such a place this is not an old fashioned barbers with hair all over the floor and page 3 babes pinned on the wall next to a sign for dad-n-lad special, no no this is modern salon that offers haircuts and waxing for both sexes and therefore does not have old fashioned prices — worth it for a bit of pampering eh lads?

Don’t be put off by its seemingly hipper than hip name, Hooka is a brilliant hair salon. I’ve been having my hair cut here for a while now, and wouldn’t go anywhere else. My stylist actually took the time to listen to what I wanted from a cut, and talked me through every stage of the process to ensure that it was cool, unique and suited my facial shape. He also took the time to recommend products to me that he thought would keep my hair looking its best. What I liked most is that there was no ‘hard sell’ here — instead I felt like I was having my hair styled by a friend rather than someone trying to make a commission off over priced hair gels. The first time I had my hair cut here, the style looked great for over two months before I felt that I had to return to the salon to get it trimmed again — a real first! Plus, I know that for less than £30, I’ll get a cut that I like and that people complement me on. I certainly intend to return here to get my hair coloured, and to purchase other beauty treatments and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.
