Voodou Hairdressers

I was charged £105 for a colour, cut and blow in Voodou. Nothing really to say about the haircut or colour, only that my hair was «ok» and for that price i would expect to be more pleased. I was not impressed by the staff though, after my hair was rinsed on the back wash by a perfectly pleasant trainee, I was then attended to by two young girls who started to talk amongst themselves in a very nasty way about the trainee. They ignored me for most of the time I was with them but when they realised I was listening to their conversation they then told me that the trainee «stinks» and were laughing about the clothes she wears. Horrible staff, would not go there again. Imagine what they say about the customers !!

I’ve always wanted to go red and was a little apprehensive about such a drastic change, Jamie however put my mind at rest and showed me some examples of blondes that rock the ginger locks.
Going on the ½ price thursday meant that i didn’t pay an arm and a leg for the colour and cut — not as cheap as a box colour job but the colour has lasted a lot longer and i got a free glass of wine to celebrate my new hair so there’s always a silver lining!
Friendly stylists that actually listened to what you want, advice and don’t just give you the same thing they gave their last client.
9 weeks on and i’ve gone back to have my roots touched up and colour enhanced even more, so it’s a very merry christmas!

I think Voodou should be renamed the Emperors New Clothes as it is all overhyped overpriced rubbish.
I am still up at 01.40 in the morning writing this review as I am so upset with my hair I can’t get to sleep (sad I know but that’s how important it is to me).
I was initially suprised at the slightly tatty appearance of the shop (masking tape covering ripped flooring on the way to the toilet and scruffy staff blow drying their own hair in front of customers). I let it go as I had heard it had a great reputation for colour so thought don’t judge a book by its cover etc…
I started out with an uneven block blonde colour that I wanted to tone down and was thinking along the lines of honey and caramel tones to break up the colour. It was between Voodou and Barbara Daley and I wish I had gone for the latter.
I started with an extensive consultation with the «colour expert» to discuss exactly what I wanted. I gave specific instuction and even named a celeb as an example. 4 ½ hours later I left the salon £240 lighter (I did buy £60 products as I felt that I had invested in the colour) with hair darker than I had planned but basically quite satisfied.
However, when I got outside in the light from a distance my hair looked grey. I am in my 30’s and am proud to say I have no natural grey hair. I tried to tell myself it was just me adjusting to the new colour.
When I got home my husband just stood looking at me with a shocked face and my 12 year old daughter said that she couldn’t tell me what she thought about it as it would upset me. I asked her to tell me and she my hair made me look like a granny as it was grey.
To add insult to injury my friends six year son asked me why I had changed my lovely blonde hair to a grey colour.
That was Saturday, today is Monday and I have washed my hair for the first time. The brown shades have developed a strange khaki green hue and without the (excellent I have to admit) blow dry the highlights have mingled with the greeney hair to form a really unattractive overall grey appearance.
I am going to phone to complain tomorrow but I am really nervous about allowing them anywhere near my hair again to correct it. I would not use this salon again and I would absolutely not recommend it to my friends (maybe my really bad enemies!

I’m really not someone who would ever complain about a haircut, but my visit here today was so bad I thought it should be shared with people thinking of going here.
I had with me an introductory £10 voucher when I popped in to the Bold Street barbers branch to check whether I would normally need an appointment or whether it was ok just to wait. I was told normally you would require an appointment but they had a senior stylist and director free. I opted for the senior stylist. So far, so good.
So i took my seat and Lilly (the stylist) asked me what I wanted. To which I gave the usual response: just a tidy up, a little bit shorter all round but with the caveat that my hair usually grows out thicker at the back and sides. At this point I had the distinct impression that she wasn’t listening to what I was saying (she was looking teh other way), and she responded ‘really short at the sides, then’ to which i erred and suggested ‘quite short but not too short’. Ask she walked off she said ‘it’ll be 25 with the voucher’. I wasn’t certain what the prices were but I thought that was more than what the price list had said, but never wanting to cause a fuss and presuming that was teh right price I stuutterd ‘err right’, before being taken over for a perfectly pleasant hair wash by somebody else.
I was the returned to my chair, where I waited for two or three minutes for Lilly to finish her phone call. (I don’t really have any problem with that, it’s only that it became indicative of a general attitude). Anyway, she came over and proceeded to chop away around my hair before resorting to the clippers for the back and sides (the place I normally go and pay less always use scissors for this so I thought it a tad odd). They usually take more than ten seconds to do the front as well! So in less than ten minutes Lilly gave the impression she was finished with it — asking whether the lengths were ok. Any uneasy feeling I had about the haircut started to get worse as I stammered (for the first time ever with a haircut!) that I though it was maybe a tad long on thetop. Anyway, a few more chops and she got teh hairdryer out, giving my head a once over so it wasn’t properly dry before applying some ‘product’ and running it through my hair, and then checking the back was ok (even though I couldn’t see it as she waved the mirror somewhere towards the back of my head!)
Feeling a tad dispondent with my ten minute haircut I went over to the counter, was given a loyalty card (which won’t be necessary!) Another memeber of staff then said that’ll be 25 pounds. So I produced my voucher — and they said that was inclusive of my voucher! Normally I would just pay, but given the hair cut had only taken ten minutes and I didn’t think any care had gone in to it I just checked why it was. So they pointed to the list indicating a ‘cut and finish’ and saying that she’d added a fiver for long hair! They asked if taht was ok, to which I said ‘no, not really’. I maybe should have added that I had very short hair to begin with and in no sense had my hair been ‘finished’: it had been left half done in truth.
Fair enough the person behind the counter went and checked and a minute or so later a man, I presume to be the manager, came and apologised and said it would actually be £15 and that their had just been a misunderstanding aout teh voucher. I knew that was not so but he was very polite and apologetic so I accepted it and paid the amount.
But even then I felt I’d been ‘ripped off’ for £15. It had been cut how you would have expected for a 5 or 6 quid cut. Having got home I washed my hair which revealed teh fringe to be horribly uneven, with strands (and in fact, clumps of hair) which had just been missed. I had to get my mum to sort it out in the end.
We’ve all been for haircuts when it;s not been quite right. But I can honestly say I’ve never had a haircut where I’ve come away feeling like this. My hair just looks a bit of a mess. I’ve never, ever felt the need to complain about anything like this before but given they also tried to overcharge me, I just feel the need to share my experiences.
It might just be that they were having an off day, but there’s no way in hell I would ever go back there.

I have been going to Voodou for years and after trying a few stylists, have found one I liked and kept. I think she’s really good at cutting my hair the way I want it done, and she really just gives me what I ask for, no ifs or buts, and no botched up job at the end of the day. The only thing is that she used to charge £29 for a cut but after being promoted to senior stylist, she charges nearly £40 which is really quite dear but I think that’s to be expected of any good or well-​known salon, and Voodou is no different from any of the others I’ve used before like Toni & Guy.

Customer-​service skills are non existent plus sky high prices! i was told 160£ for cut and colour, no thanks!

Overall, the Voodou Colour Centre was a good experience and I am very pleased with my lovely new hairstyle.
I recommend you discuss the price of your haircut beforehand so you aren’t stood in disbelief when you are told the price of your new do. Even with student discount, the price is incredibly high. I paid just over £100 for a cut & blow dry, full head of highlights and toner. Although I know highlights tend to be quite expensive, I’ve never paid this much before.
The basins were a little uncomfortable, these could definitely be improved for a more relaxing and therapeutic experience (something you’d expect when getting your hair washed in such an expensive salon).
High prices and uncomfortable basins aside, I was impressed with my cut and colour. Everything was done professionally and the staff were very friendly. My hairdresser, Liz, was particularly helpful in discussing the colour options for my hair.
Would I go there again? Possibly. But I’d try looking for somewhere cheaper first.

Delighted by my free £10 voucher, available to all newcomers, I booked an appointment with Voodou for a wash cut and blow. I was welcomed by the friendly receptionist and seen to quickly. Prior to washing I was asked if I wanted conditioner, which I did not realising until I was presented with a chart of prices that a splodge of the stuff cost a fiver. Oh well I got £10 of… My hair was washed (and conditioned) by a very nice though rather rough young girl who, as she stood scrub boarding my hair behind me I imagined with a head scarf and a cigarette stuck in her teeth.
I was offered a cup of tea and and my desired cut was ascertained before the show began: one bossy hairdresser and her stooge. I did feel awfully sorry for the young girl (aforementioned washer woman) as she scurried around and begged for tasks clearly desperate to impress.
I must say, I felt rather rushed, and at times almost an inconvenience as watches were continually checked and time updates called. I wasn’t overly pleased with the blow dry as my hair is long and thick and needs time spending on it, which was not given, but the cut was good and the salon is clearly very popular and the girls under pressure so it is understandable though not excusable.
As a student I would have ultimately paid less than I did with the voucher as £10 is deducted from a full price cut not a junior stylist cut, which was not explained.
Good enough, but it’s a little overrated.

I go to voodoo to have my hair done i have for years so does my daughter, i think the secret is to find a stylist you like the keep her/​him, it’s not the salon that is disappointing its the stylist doing your hair and you can get that anywhere. The salons in bold street are nice but the one in Breck road Anfield is awful and a bit grotty. I think this should reflect on the prices i had to go there once because my stylist was based there for a few days and the sinks were dirty were you have your hair washed and there was rubbish exposed in the sink area it was not pleasant.

There’s 2 Voodou salons on Bold St, one for men one for women. My boyfriend used to go to the mens one, and was always pleased with it, although it is very pricey especially if you just want a ‘normal’ mens haircut (ie nothing fancy or styled too much!)
I’ve been to the womens one a few times, usually it’s pretty good. I’d recommend it more for students as you get a good discount, it’s pricey otherwise. The loud dance music can be annoying, it’s not a place for a relaxing hair cut!

If you want a overpriced haircut then this is your place.

Voodou is the ultimate student hairdressing salon as it offers quality haircuts at reasonable (–ish) prices.
Much to my amusement, I’ve seen many a friend come out with zig-​zag lines down the side of their head. However, I’ve never come out with anything more than a haircut that I’m extremely happy with.
The staff are really good fun and always up for a chat that doesn’t always revolve about whether you’re going out that night! There’s a cool vibe around the whole place and you can tell the directors take a real pride in their work.
There are two different salons for men and women and both are extremely popular with students and trendy young professionals. It’s advisable to book ahead rather than walk in off the street. This is apparently even more important for women!
They also sell a good selection of hair products such as wax, gel and shampoo.
My only criticism is that they play rubbish dance music in the background — perhaps because it’s a stone’s throw from the site of the old Cream nightclub?
