A friend and I stumbled across Petticoat Lane Shopping Arcade a few weeks ago and were immediately drawn in by its kitsch charm and cute aesthetic. Offering a range of boutiques, from jewellery stores, to the sort of places you can find wedding dresses and vintage teacups, Petticoat Lane is right up my street(pardon the pun). Stores are very reasonably priced, and staff are friendly. It can be eerily quiet if you wander upstairs to peruse the dress shop, but this makes for a relaxing shopping ambiance. A great little shopping arcade!

Petticoat Lane is an indoor shopping arcade situated on Bold Street. It has a Victorian feel with a cobbled floor and Victorian Style windows and shop fronts. The shops here include a newsagents, vintage clothing shop, hat shop, jewellery store, a children’s formal wear shop(with scary mannequins in the window) and a hairdressers. The atmosphere here is pleasant and laid back. This is a lovely unique place.

This lovely little shopping arcade is tucked away near the top of Bold Street. The shop front is reminiscent of an old-time Parisian boutique, and the entrance leads into a long, kind of dimly lit passageway with various shops on either sides. The walls inside the passage are yellow and white, with decorative windows set in them. Inside you will find a newsagent, a children’s formal wear store, a vintage clothing shop, a hat shop, a vintage/repurposed jewellery store, and a hair salon. Most of the shops seemed to be closed when I went in midday, however Hope & Winkle Vintage was open, and they are well worth the visit. There’s a very interesting hat shop opposite Hope & Winkle which looks to serve nearly every possible hat need you could imagine. Sarah Daly hair studio is on the second or third floor, up a very windy staircase, as is the vintage clothing shop which seemed closed when I was there. All in all, a very cute shopping arcade.

Petticoat Lane is a small indoor street with various shops attached. As you can tell from the exterior, it pays homage to the quaint, and though the shops have changed over the years, the ethos stays the same. In one of the windows belonging to the arcade you can see child mannequins modelling christening and bridal wear, and it has been a long standing joke that the little baldy boy looks a lot like one of my mates, even though all the child mannequins are quite freakish. It is also home to a great sweet shop, a hairdressers and some lovely vintage shops. Worth a browse.
