This place has a nice location off the Albert Docs, but it wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great. It’s definitely commercialized Italian food feel(I’m use to passionate personalized Italiano cuisine) and when it comes to Italian cuisine there is a huge difference with authentic mom and papa feel and commercialized pizza chains. My friend suggested this place as she said it had the healthiest personalized pizza you can ever eat. I told her she was full of it and called her on it. Next thing you know I’m ordering a special pizza that is served with a huge hole in the middle and replaced with a small green salad mixture. I understand the pizza is guaranteed to be at 500 calories but the crust was so thin and not flaky or crisp. I’m assuming they used low fat cheese as I couldn’t tell there was anything on it. If you want to feel good about eating a pizza this is the place to go in Liverpool, but if you want something heavy and fulfilling I’m not sure that this would be your spot. It provides a very interesting ambiance upon walking in but too much of a modern restaurant feel for me and not enough of a traditional Italiano ristorante or trattoria feel.

This is Milanoes in the UK. Not bad, not great… you know what you’ll get. best way to describe this is the equivalent of Eddie Rockets for the Pizza Crowd. A few steps up from Pizza Hut, but not much. Service was alright, but this aprticular location lacked any kind of soul, felt like a waiting area in an airport — big open and impersonal. Sorry I sound unispired, but that is how I felt here. Oh and for some reason they don’t serve fries/chips at all.

If you are a tourist visiting the docks or not, then a wonderful place to eat during daytime or evening is Pizza Express. This lovely restaurant is sat adjacent to the Echo Arena and next to the Echo Wheel making it a perfect and convenient spot to take a rest bite. They host outdoor seating so you can have a bit of fresh air and soak up the sun on a summer’s day; if you prefer not to, then indoors is just as good for a restaurant of its class. Their dishes are mostly expensive but you are paying for a brilliant service and quality food(but I wouldn’t say quantity). You can expect to pay approximately £9 for a standard sized pizza. My favourite is the American Hot version with jalapenos. Other types of chilli are available on their list too according to your preference. If you’re a real fan of pizza’s, you must come here. If you’re not such a fan, why not treat yourself to something different on the menu. Pizza Express has an excellent setting and tops up a great day.

This is one of the nicest Pizza Express Branches I have been to. Sat underneath the Echo Wheel it commands a great view of the Albert dock and the two full floors of seating allows plenty of room for large groups to visit. As always Pizza express serves a great pizza, my favourite is the American hot which whilst many way say is boring I am of the belief that it is the best on offer but that is just me! Their Romana base is the latest addition to the menu and its extra thin base is a delight to try. As this is quite a new restaurant the staff could use some more training on the menu, although they are still very helpful and courteous. At the extra price you pay for the quality of pizza you would expect the staff to be professional.

As you may have gathered by my Pizza Express review of the branch on Victoria Street, I love Pizza Express. However, unfortunately I have a few problems with the dock branch. I’ll start with the positive — the staff here are really friendly, cheerful and chatty. The restaurant is pretty cool with huge glass walls and a funky interior, with a nice view of the Albert Dock. They always try and seat and serve you really quickly, even if they are busy. Now for the negative: I’ve ordered take-out from here twice. The first time I ordered in the restaurant waited an hour(after having parked in the Albert Dock pay & display car park), I was then told that my order had been served to someone in the restaurant and could I wait while they made another. The second time I ordered of the telephone and went to pick up, they had the order ready but on driving away I noticed that my bruschetta had no topping — it was merely a slab of dough for nearly a fiver. However, when I returned it they were extremely apologetic. This is no reflection on eating in, as in the restaurant I have never had a problem.

One place you can almost always get a table is this Pizza Express near the Albert Docks. A slick silver building with huge glass windows, it’s usually packed when there’s a gig or convention at the nearby Echo Arena and quiet to gently bustling the rest of the time. Luckily, the food and service seem to be just as consistent as other branches around the city. In fact, last time I went I couldn’t believe how quickly our order was taken and how fast the food was delivered. All I can say, is the chef must be a maestro at rolling dough, scattering toppings and cooking it to near perfection. A tip for Orange customers, as well as getting 2 tickets for 1 at the Odeon every Wednesday, until the end of August 2010 you can also get 2 pizzas for the price of 1. I’m not a customer myself but free films and free pizza is almost enough to tempt me to switch!
