Live music is where life begins and ends me. It is all I’ve known since being a small child and will be with me forever. Over the years, London has routinely closed more and more live music venues. What made the English music scene so amazing. In years gone by was the ability for bands to come through the smaller venues, get paid an okay amount of money. All the while learning their stagecraft. Among these, the 606 club has been with us for many many years. I really hope that this place never ever becomes a victim of the widespread music venue closures. I have seen some of my absolute musical heroes play here over the years and I’ve always enjoyed every visit. I find all of the staff here friendly yet laid-back. They know when to talk and when to leave you to enjoy the music. I love the exposed brickwork décor and mood — appropriate lighting. It really sets the ambience as it should do. Every time that I have chosen to eat here. I have loved every bite and you can tell that it is prepared with care and attention in the kitchen. On my most recent visit I had the Sausage & Mash — and I can tell you I enjoyed it so much more than I imagined that I would! Even such a simple dish can be prepared here and turns out to be delicious through every single bite. As you can see, I am an absolute fan of the 606 Club. I cannot wait for my next visit!

Really fun atmosphere, the 606 Club is a small venue with an authentic passion for British jazz and blues. It’s an intimate setting, but not great for a date or a group outing because it’s impossible to chat over the music. This is all about the music, so expect it to be very loud and dark so you don’t socialise. Good music & decent food. The server seemed overwhelmed, they probably need more wait staff.

Hidden gem for very good nice live music. Food wasnt anything remarkable but decent enough although we waited for over an hour to be served. Do not order the duck spring rolls as they don’t have any duck inside. For the rest a fantastic experience.

Overall, big fan of this joint. I went here on a Saturday night verryy last minute for London. My friend and I were both in the mood for some live music, and in particular, jazz. After assessing some of the more obvious options and deciding they were pipe dreams(Ronnie Scott’s, Nightjar to name a couple), I rang up 606 and in the first shocking turn of events, they actually answered their phone on a Saturday the day of the performance! In an even more shocking turn, they actually had availability! I was floored and ecstatic. This place is located down by Imperial Wharf and very well-hidden if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Once you manage to make out the 606 sign across from an old power station, you go downstairs into a speakeasy-esque jazz club. The venue itself is very intimate compared to some of the other London jazz clubs I’ve been to. I actually like it better than the much-hyped and world-renowned Ronnie Scott’s to be completely honest. The music was excellent. Gilad Atzmon, a talented Israeli saxophonist, played with his quartet the night we visited. The food, though nothing to write home about, is certainly adequate. I ordered the honey glazed duck leg which was quite pleasant while my friend had the hake. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Probably some of the best service I’ve had in London! Check it out if you have even the slightest inclination. Especially check it out if you’re feeling spontaneous in a city like London which tries to eradicate most forms of spontaneity — you might just get lucky like me.

–Well hidden –Secret underground music club! –Great music –Food is also good –A little hard to find. So be strong. Have faith in google map(or whatever form of navigation system you have) 606 club is a great jazz club that also serves(surprisingly) good food. Well-hidden in mostly industrial district, the club has a certain feel of secret club. You need to pass a few tests before admitted. First, there is no neon sign outside that advertises its business. So you need to have a correct address with you and have faith in it. After some back and forth and process of elimination, you will decide that the locked iron gate is indeed the correct entrance you are looking for. Next challenge is to summon the courage to press the buzzer next to the gate and declare your name to the gatekeeper. As you walk down the narrow staircase that leads to the underground dungeon, a thought might occur to you that perhaps the whole thing is a trap and that some aliens are waiting inside to do whatever that those alien people do to you. DON’T TURNBACK. BE strong. You are only moments away from the great music experience. Only when you’ve passed all of these tests, you are admitted to the underground secret music club that is 606 Club. Not to mention their music is always great. The food is also pretty good. If you intend to eat there, I’d recommend arriving before the set starts as it’s awkward to eat when they are playing music.

One of the top jazz clubs in London. Mostly hosts British groups. Food is pretty decent. Good place for a genuine jazz club experience. Unlikely basement dungeon on an industrial street. Barely noticeable from outside!

I love the 606. It gets the whole dinner-with-Jazz thing right time after time. I’ve been a good few times over the past 20 years and the formula hasn’t faded a bit. Great to see lots of younger people there this evening, all enjoying the music just as much as me.

I really enjoyed my Sunday lunch here seeing Trio Manouche who were fantastic and well worth the trek across London. We were a big group but they had a table set up and service seemed pretty efficient. Food is massively overpriced but the roast beef was actually quite good although NOCONDIMENTS — WHYWHY would you make me eat roast beef without either horseradish or mustard? WHY? Maybe they had it somewhere but I by the time I next saw a server I had finished everything… Dessert was called something like the MISSION of CHOCOLATE which sounded incredibly exotic but actually was just chocolate cake. Nice chocolate cake though. Overall would definitely come back and recommend to others. Be warned though: there was a jazz flute. Jazz flute is the worst. I say that as a flute player. It just shouldn’t be allowed.

Not bad place at all. It’s a bit tiny and sometimes overcrowded. If you are not a member then you have to book in advance. The meals are basic but still tasty. I’ve been here three times. Two of them I was totally satisfied but once I had some problems with the staff(obviously they are not friendly and polite every night). I wouldn’t give 4 stars if it wasn’t the live music. I like jazz and I like the band that plays. I am sorry I can’t really remember their name but the music is really nice. Once I had to opportunity to book a first line table and the experience was amazing!

606 Club is consistently rated as one of the top two jazz venues in London, and I’m certainly an enthusiastic fan, for the following reasons: The music. Fantastic. Sure, I’ve heard the occasional laughably self-indulgent set here, but the vast majority of stuff has been top-drawer, lose-yourself-in-the-music performances. And let’s not forget that you get 3 hours of it over the evening. The venue. Hidden behind a locked iron gate, with only the numbers ‘606’ giving any hint of what lies beneath, 606 has to have one of the capital’s longest established(1988) speakeasy-style entrances that are all the rage now. Once you’ve been buzzed through and ushered down the stairs, you’ll find yourself in a dimly-lit basement: straight ahead, the main music and dining room and to the right, the members bar. In contrast to Ronnie Scott’s slick interior, 606 has a scruffy charm, with the musicians quite close to the tables. It’s true that these tables are quite close together but that’s jazz clubs for you(the Vortex in Dalston has more tightly packed tables)! And, I’d contend, many an ordinary restaurant these days. Besides, it’s not something that really impedes customers in any way. The food. That’s right, I’m going to stick my head out and say that I think the food is actually pretty good. Put it this way, it’s clearly better than typical pub efforts, yet not so differently priced. What’s more, food is served until 10:45 on weekdays and 11:15ish on weekends. How many pubs or restaurants in London can claim that? The prices. The £10 music charge is great value compared to the £20 minimum charges of Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express Jazz Club. I also think the food is pretty reasonably priced too. For example, I had some sausages and mash for £12, which at the Lots Road Pub down the road costs £11.50. Alcohol is not extortionate either, and nowhere near the ridiculous £10-£15 G&T prices charged at Ronnie Scotts. An oft-repeated criticism of 606 is the requirement to buy a main course(starting from £10) in order to order alcohol *if one is not a member*. That’s a fair point. All I can suggest to would-be drinkers that they consider enjoying some dinner with their jazz, or, better, become a member of 606(£95 first year, £60 every year thereafter) which means you can have a drink without food, as well as other benefits. It’s true too that it’s relatively inaccessible to public transport, necessitating a 10 – 15 minute walk from the nearest station(Imperial Wharf) or tube(Fulham Broadway). This is unfortunate, but again, seemingly the lot of many an uncommercial jazz club. For now, I’m going to rate 6064.5 rounded down to 4 whilst I explore London’s jazz scene further. But I have a strong feeling that I’ll be revising it upwards soon.

This is a lovely wee Jazz venue. Small, intimate and serves food! The only thing I don’t like about this venue is that it is very small! I kinda felt like I was back in school, having to be quiet whilst paying attention to the teacher. Otherwise disapproving looks were thrown my way… as in ‘stay still & be quiet!‘ My attention span needs regular breaks every now and then, otherwise I zone out and fall asleep… This is a personal thing so not really a fault with the venue, more a fault with me. So, if your attention span is longer than mine & you like Jazz, I would recommend 606 club. If it is like mine, you may prefer Ronnie Scotts.

My good friend Mike W invited me to the 606 to see his friend(Tony O’Mally) playing with his band on a Friday night. Sad Face: — Pain in the bottom to get to by public transport. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the nearest underground station — Fulham Broadway. — Once inside it’s a bit like a church hall with lots of uncreative wooden tables and chairs crammed in. — There is very little space to manœuvre due to the above. — Food is extremely overpriced. 15 plus quid for a salmon steak, mash and some veggies. — You can’t have a drink(alcoholic beverage) unless you’re eating. — Waiting staff(one lady in particular) rated herself pretty highly and gave an air of, ‘I’m above this.‘ Happy Face: For the music alone I’m giving this place four stars. Despite all the above, I would go back because I love jazz and the manager does a great job getting in some amazing artist. I also very much like that professionals from all walk of the music world, go there. People who really appreciate each other talent. There is nothing more I enjoy than listening to the stories of somebody who has been in ‘the industry’ for decades — it’s a pleasure and a treat. Ps. Reservation are imperative because as previously mentioned the space is small. Also it is very loud, so next time I’ll take some earplugs. Gosh I’m getting old!

Oh so disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. Be advised… you must order food. Ok, no problem, right? I can order desert — which appeared to be lovely… but no, you must order either an entrée or an appetizer. Huh? I ordered a bowl of soup and shoved it away as I had already had dinner. It took the waitress a good 30 minutes. yes 30 minutes to even acknowledge me… I could have used even a glass of water… The music was fine… I would have liked it over an order of Bailey’s Irish Cream Brulee… oh, but that wasn’t allowed… Anyway, cool place, decent music, snarky waitress, weird rules. Affordable. Disappointed.

This is a live music venue and the Jazz that I went to see here was truly inspiring. I however have not had the best experiences at this venue as the staff can be very rude. The first time we went and pushed the buzzer the man said that we couldn’t go in because it wasn’t a place that you just turn up at for a drink and he was concerned we would be rowdy. Whilst a drink would have been nice, we arrived at the bar sober and were there for the Jazz! I think he just stereotyped us and assumed we thought it was a bar and wouldn’t take it any other way. Also when we finally organised to go we went as a little group. Because of this they gave us the worst seats which were by the door so we had very limited views of the band. We were also right next to the staff area and the staff were constantly talking! Whilst I respect the ‘you have to either sit at the back and not drink’, or ‘you need to have a substantial meal if you wish to have a drink’ policies. I do feel this venue is very snobbish in it;s attitude. I have been to some lovely Jazz bars around the world and I have never been treated in this way before. Nor have I ever had ‘policies’ imposed upon me so that I can listen to Jazz. That said the meal was very tasty. However the choices were very basic. The meal and entry to the event is about £40-£50. What I also found very confused was that in the cost was included half a bottle of wine. Whilst I understand that they don’t want people to turn up to just drink and not appreciate the Jazz, it seems very odd if you pay for a meal that they would enforce that you drink. That said, it may be the case you don’t have to drink the wine and they will take this cost off of your bill. However as the staff literally ignored us, the menu wording was confusing and there was no way to clarify this, I am not really not sure if this is the case! The venue is also very cramped and basic. It’s just a large brick cellar so nothing to write home about. It is however functional. It does seem that this is a negative review, however if you do like Jazz and can deal with the terrible staff and their attitude, then book yourself for a night here! I however in the meantime will be looking for a more friendly venue.

The non-descript metal door leads down into a music lover’s paradise. The owner Steve’s enthusiasm and love for music are infectious, and when he gets on his flute to jam with the performers, you’re in for a treat. The food is decent and decently priced, but that’s not why you go. You go to sit back and enjoy the music. The lineup is varied and eclectic, staff are friendly and the venue is cosy so you get great access to the performers. Have been going for years and love this place.

Excellent jazz venue that I’d recommend over Ronnie Scotts any day, much more intimate and less of a corporate sterilised feel that you get at Scotts. The only downside for me was the convenient for 606 licensing reg that states that anyone drinking alcohol must have eaten a substantial meal there. That turns the £12 entry fee into more £30−40(£50 for me actually, including wine). The food wasn’t very good either: burnt nachos with tinned tomatoes(!??), humous starter with a side salad of one ¼ tomato and one oliver(why bother!?). The steak and chips was ok, ribeye a little tough but cooked well, nice home made hand cut chips. The wine(Rioja Crianza) was well priced and tasty. Very enjoyable evening though, the food just feels a little bit like a con.

With the grandiose claim that it’s one of the best jazz clubs in Europe, it’s impossible not to step up from Europe and compare this club with some of the world’s greats, such as Smoke in New York or Yoshi’s in San Francisco. But that’s not really fair — sadly London isn’t exactly a jazz mecca. But actually this is a pretty damn fine jazz club! The formula is a members-only arrangement if you just want the music and drinks, but if you’re not a member you can go to a concert as long as you have dinner. And the menu is simple, robust food in the manner of steaks, lamb rump and sea bass fillets type of thing, but nicely done, generous, with style and amusing little flourishes. Wine list OK, not staggeringly interesting. Overall it can get a bit pricey if you add up all the bits and bobs — food, wine, cocktails, music If you love jazz and live in W or SW London, becoming a member is a serious option because it’ll pay for itself with just two or three gigs. The stuff that really matters is the music and the atmosphere. It scores high on the first front, and a little inconsistent on the second. In general the gigs are of a very high standard, with excellent musicians, generous sets, great acoustics, the right level of closeness to the audience, and a great deal of enthusiasm. The audience is mixed — there are people who don’t care for the music and talk loudly and stridently all the way through, even through the quiet numbers. The management ask for respect for the musicians and for those punters who like to listen, but some people just don’t care. This is pretty crap when you’ve spent serious money on food, wine and music. BUT — this is a great club, great venue, mad location, very recommendable.

What a phenomenal place: the entire establishment imparts a 1920s era speakeasy atmosphere. The 606 Jazz Club is situated in a fairly abandoned street, and you have to look for the place. Then you ring the bell and someone comes to open the big, heavy, metal door. You descend the stairs and you enter the dimly lit room. I felt right at home and did not want to leave. Ever. The jazz was so amazing I did not even care anymore about how the food came out, which came out surprisingly well. I started with an oven metled goat cheese and then had the salmon, which had a little too many bones in it, but whatever. The wine flowed richly. I went with a large group for my twenty-first birthday, and they were very accomodating. For groups they have a special menu, which includes wine, music charge, and two courses. It came down to a very reasonable price. Unless you’re a member, you need to eat in order to drink. I don’t think they accept credit cards. Finally, if you’re with six or more people, you need to make sure there are both males and females in your party. Definitely make a reservation. Keep that in mind and you’ll have a wonderful evening. Truly one of the best jazz clubs, but bottom line one of my favorite places in London.
