Walked in sober at 11pm, good and cheap and big and friendly. I had a hot chicken one with blackbeans. I have a semi just thinking about that thick log

Amigos is a consistent disappointment. We’ve had a variety of issues, ranging from delivery drivers not being able to find our flat(it’s in a bloody great block less than half a mile from the restaurant…) to the wrong food being delivered. The latest issue, which has now pushed me over the edge is the mobile app doesn’t map to the menu. I’ve therefore got completely the wrong food. I’m honestly baffled why we have given them so many chances. I shan’t bother again. Avoid.

This place could be a hell of alot better. When i first tried the food from here i was really impressed for one it was something different to get delivered. The food was good, buritto was tasty and very filling plus the hot sauce was actually pretty damn hot for once, they give you a choice mild, medium, or hot and alot of places the medium is mild and the hot is medium so was refreshing to get proper hot. Over time this plcae has become a bit bland and the ingredients don’t seem to be as vibrant as they first were it all seems a bit tired which is disappointing because really good mexican food is hard to come by I’m finding in London

Burritos are amongst my favourite foods, and I am sad to say this place didn’t do it for me. Upon ordering one, I was met with a complete lack of flavour, despite being given numerous options for fillings and sauces. The prices may seem reasonable but I would spend a bit more for a better burrito!

I’m only giving this star because it won’t let me leave zero. I called and asked how much a plain refried bean and cheese burrito would cost before I ordered online, and I could not understand what they were saying and they could not understand what I was saying. So, I just ordered some refried bean sides, cheese, and tortillas. I was expecting REFRIEDBEANS. PINTOREFRIEDBEANS. That is what the website said, but no. I got black beans swimming in unidentifiable black liquid. Also, I got charged 2 pounds extra for delivery despite the claim that orders over 10 pounds are free. This place is ridiculous. DONOTORDERFROMHERE.

This place was great when it first opened but since then has gone steadily downhill. The food is bland and without fail you never receive everything you order. A real shame as it used to be so good but now the enchiladas are bland and the fillings either v sparse or overflowing(not great when it’s cheese), salsa often comes covered in a thick layer of black pepper making it inedible. Guac is pretty poor although slightly better than supermarket versions. Love the burrito kit concept but that’s about it.

I agree with Tim. W, This place is bland. The quesadilla were discovery wraps filled with cheddar and then microwaved! Terrible. The burrito was boring, plain meat not spiced, bland rice and weak flavoured medium chilli. Service was average. Wouldnt bother going again.

Bland. I went here with a couple of friends for burritos. I had the grilled chicken and they had the pork. Don’t expect any of the delicately marinated meat, the smokey heat of chipotle sauce or the crisp crunch of fresh iceberg in the vein of Chipotle/Tortilla/Chilangos. This place looks and feels like a kebab shop, and the burritos are as bland as the paper they are wrapped in. One note of caution if you do decide to go: the hot chilli sauce is insanely hot. And this is coming from someone who eats chillis for breakfast.

You know when you hear that sizzling plate in the distance and you clear area around your table to make sure you have enough room to devour the flavorful, juicy fajitas that are seconds away from being in your presence? Yeah, this is not that place. I ordered takeaway despite the reviews and was hoping for something magical since I have been craving Mexican food. This gave me a fix, but it also reiterated(as it happens every so often in London) that Mexican food is something to stay away from in this city. The combo steak/chicken fajitas were dry, although they did come with peppers and onions. The«refried» beans were watery and tasted like they were from a can. The habanero salsa was spicy but it had a really weird taste. And the most disappointing was the guacamole. It was black with bits if dark green trying to peek through, enough said. Portion was tiny and food was cold. It was only tolerable after I heated it in the microwave. The only reasons why I gave it two stars instead of one is for the fast delivery and the fact that it does have a flavor that is trying its best to be Mexican. Sadly, it just isn’t there and I won’t be ordering again.

When I saw the 2.5 star overall rating for this place, I was skeptical. How can something so easy as Mexican takeaway go so wrong? Well, Amigos proved the reviews right, proved me wrong, and showed me just how. Here is a quick rundown of my experience at Amigos. I walk in. Cashier/chef/clean up girl(should all of those roles even be the same person?): *Rolls eyes at me* Me: Hello, can I please have the nopales quesadilla with guacamole? Her: *Rolls eyes*…so, that means you don’t want salsa or sour cream, innit? Me: No, actually, it would be nice with all three. Her: So not just with guacamole, innit. Me: Yeah, sorry, I didn’t know you got all three with the order already. Her: Mild, medium, or hot? Me: Medium, please. Her: …So do you want cheese in that? Me:(In my head: the name ‘quesadilla’ implies there’s cheese in it, you cretin) Yes, please. Her: *Makes my quesadilla and puts it in a box, without the salsa or anything* Me: Actually, can I have pico de gallo instead of the medium salsa verde? Her: *Puts salsa verde in box AFTER my request* Yeah, but that will cost 30p extra since I’ve already put the salsa verde, innit. Me: …Whatever. Nopales were bitter and slimy, cheese wasn’t at all melted in the quesadilla, guacamole was brown with oxidation and oddly sour(‘freshly made,’ my ass). Don’t go here, no matter how Californian you are and how much you’re craving Mexican food. The one thing it has going for it is that it’s cheap. But disgusting. Blegh.

You know when Renaissance painters would try and paint a lion without ever seeing one, and it came out looking like an overgrown Pekingese? That’s how I’d describe the burritos and general ingredients from Los Amigos. In theory, they do things right(regardless of how generally incompetent the staff in the front seemed to be). In actuality, it’s a poor, inauthentic substitute for the real thing.

My heart skipped a beat when I opened the door here in Kentish Town and saw a menu for a Mexican food place that. gasp. delivers. I’m a Texan transplant via Los Angeles and one of the things I miss most about home is the fine Mexican grub. Even in LA I had never seen a Mexican food restaurant that delivers. SO I was shocked and over joyed and eager to try Amigo’s. The menu scared me a bit at the same time. It seemed a bit contrived and the whole sustainable FSC deliver by bike approach. well it’s a bit much. The problems start at the menu where they for some reason have two classes of meat. fajita and burrito. While fajita is a way of preparing and cooking meat, a burrito is a dish in itself and not an actual style of meat. So when my English wife said she wanted a Chicken Burrito Enchilada I frist corrected her and then saw that she was actually right. she had the choice of a Chicken Fajita Enchilda or the burrito. Weird. I ordered the Beef burrito. Holy guacamole was I in for a surprise. When the delivery arrived. via moped. and I opened the bag I was a bit confused. Inside I saw 5 small containers, a large typical takeaway container and two tortillas in a bag. I opened the larger container and saw a pile of meat and a pile of white rice. I then surveyed the other packages and determined that these folks had basically sent me a build yourself a burrito kit. Now I have made burritos most of my life so this was not a problem for me, but I have to say I was more than slightly dismayed. For £8.45. the US equivalent of $ 13.60. I was being asked to make my own food? That is precisely why we ordered takeaway! Never in my life have I heard of a build your own burrito… and here is a company that is delivering a fairly new concept to a largely unfamiliar market with no hints or instructions as to how one would go about assembling this grab bag of ingredients into a product that the consumer assumed would be already assembled and edible as a burrito! Now to the ingredients. The meat which was according to the menu. «marinated over night in a carefully balanced, secret blend of herbs and spices». was tasteless and not char-grilled as is should have been and was advertised as but instead appeared slow cooked or braised and had gone all stringy. The serving of beans was very very small and they had a horrid flavor unlike any Mexican beans I had ever had. The rice was plain white rice with a few specs of coriander, and over cooked. The guacamole was brown. aka old. and tasteless. The tomatoes and lettuce were. tomatoes and lettuce. My wifes dish of Chicken Burrito Enchilada was served baked in a foil container with no side of rice or salad. Largely an unremarkable take on a classic dish that left her confused as to what an enchilada actually is. Their«classic» red sauce was just basically lightly spiced tomato purée. In addition. there was more packaging used here that I have ever seen used for any Mexican food, and it generated more waste than a typical takeaway order. so don’t try to market yourself as limiting ecological impact. When you get a takeaway burrito in the States it is wrapped in foil and then wrapped in a piece of paper. That has much less impact than 5 styrofoam cups and a large foil container. I highly recommend anyone going into the newly hip Mexican food genre to actually try some Mexican food. Go to LA. Go to Texas. Go to MEXICO and order some dishes and study them. Buy a burrito and watch them grill the meat. watch them fold it and then after a few bites. open it up and see what is inside. Your customers. and the cuisine of Mexico deserve at least that much respect.

It hurts me to have to leave any stars. It also hurts me that I had to build my own burrito, out of dry and tasteless ingredients. Basically, the cold and flaky tortillas fell apart as soon as I attempted to wrap the crumbly and splintering beef inside. I will never ever order from here ever again. If you order from a restaurant, you’d expect to have your food already prepared for you. The food delivered was lazy and bland. I highly do not recommend.

Amigos has potential to be really good. I’ve visited three times but i’m very unlikely to visit again. The first time was really nice little bit too spicy but definitely a good find and a welcome addition to the area. The second time was bad(for the reason to follow) and I only gave it one more chance thinking that this was a slip up. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have been the case. The problem with Amigos, is there seems to be little idea of how hot a chili is! You can detect really good flavours in the food but for some reason they have the idea that everything has to be covered in chilis. they use stupid amounts. I’m not a lover of super-hot food, but I like spicy food. But the food from the last visit was inedible(I ate 2.5 forks worth), just a dish of chilis. even after asking for ‘mild’, based on the assumption that this would still be hot. As I say, the food from what it’s possible to taste is really great… such a shame they have the idea that Mexican food is all about the heat :(

I’m so happy. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve this, but The Fates have smiled on this eternally hungry, some-time California resident and blessed me by opening the best little Mexican takeout/delivery place I could have asked for. To be fair, it wasn’t The Fates, it was a guy named Scott and I doubt he set up shop purely for my convenience, but I’m going to pretend that he did anyway because it’s awesome and it’s about 500 yards from where I work. I can, hand on heart, say that this is the best Mexican food I’ve had since I was last on the West Coast. Hands down, no question. I haven’t sampled every one of the recent Mexican arrivals to the capital, but I’ve done a fair few and Amigo’s has impressed the hell out of me. The menu is simple, but deceptively expansive — everything comes in the obligatory Chicken/Pork/Beef affiliations(note: there’s a veggie option for everything), but you’ll get different variations depending on what the meat is inside. There’s Empanadas, Flautas, Quesadillas, Burritos, Enchiladas, Fajitas and Chimichangas which all have the salsa of your choice, guacamole(proper guacamole) and sour-cream on the side. Perfik. The food is exceptionally well put together, from the perfectly marinated and plentiful meat, to the tortillas that come from that place in W. London where all the decent tortillas come from, to the sauces that taste like my Californian nostalgia, it’s all good and more authentic than I would have believed possible without the illegal trafficking of Mexican grandmothers. They’re cheap too. If you’re collecting, there isn’t much on the menu that’s over £5. And they deliver. To me.

I must admit, as an American, whenever I hear of Mexican food in London, I cannot help but be a little skeptical. Places such as Café Sol aren’t bad by any means, but they also leave much to be desired. While Amigos does have its shortcomings, it is the best Mexican that I have seen in London. I ordered a started of stuffed jalapenos and then a vegetarian burrito, and both were simply magnificent, though the burrito had a few more sweet potatoes than I would normally care for. One of the best parts about Amigos was that, unlike American Mexican, you do not hate yourself and feel like death upon completion of a meal. My favourite thing, however, is that Amigos is the first restaurant that I have ever been to that served hot sauce that I actually found to be, well, hot. Maybe it is just the American in me, but Amigos loses a star for not having some awesome Mexican drinks to go along with their wonderful menu. I just feel as if you can’t have a true Mexican restaurant without serving at least a margarita. All in all, Amigos is a great place and definitely worth paying a visit to.

I waited with baited breath while Amigos was getting done up over the past few months, it took them ages. On my way home from last week– POW! it was open. I was so hoping it would be nice as I love Mexican food and good Mexicans are really few and far between. My takeaway burrito and the guacamole sauce and nachos were really very nice. defo better than what i had a café pacifico a few weeks back. ive been back to amigos three times since and very very happy it is on my way home from work Also, happy they have option of mild or hot. do check it out! :)

I had noticed the sign outside the store for a few weeks now: Soon to be open… or something like this. I was intrigued and signed up for their mailing list. Soon I received an email explaining me the unusual, but interesting launching process in two stages: 2 weeks before the official opening: free food delivery when orders placed in advance, in return for constructive feedback 1 week before the official opening: 50% off all the menu items, when willig to give constructive feedback. I liked this idea very much, as I’m always appreciative of humble business owners that are willing to listen to their customers feedback. While I missed the first opportunity, I went yesterday to try out their 50% offer… At this point, I am not writing up my critique here, as the business owner will receive it first. I will then come back in a month’s time and will see if and how some of my suggestions(and the suggestions of others) will have been implemented. For now, let me tell you: their hot sauce is seriously hooooooooooot!
