Sleazy worker tried charging me 20% more for an item than the going rate.

A human place to pop in and purchase your daily needs. Avoid the Tesco across the road with its prepackaged everything like the plague.

I love the fact that Best Supermarket is opposite the newly opened Tesco Express on Kingsland High Street. Everyone knows that Tesco’s is the worst supermarket and although Best Supermarket has been there for years, it’s almost as if they envisioned a Tesco’s opening up opposite and the subsequent humour that would result in comparing the two names. Although never on first name terms, my flatmates and I were always very fond of the men who work in Best Supermarket and when Tesco’s opened we drunkenly assured them on a regular basis that we would never be seen dead shopping there. I must admit that there were a few occasions on which I had to pop into Tesco’s first for meat or fish(Best only have a limited selection of the frozen or tinned variety) and then hide it in my bag and stroll over casually to buy the rest of the components for my meal. I did this out of loyalty, a personal distaste for the Tescopoly and also because Best Supermarket lives up to their name. They never ID me for cigarettes unlike the morons at big supermarkets and they have a huge selection of wine and biscuits(my staple food groups). Also they have loads of fruit and veg outside which is cheaper than chips and constantly stolen by tramps and drunk people(I once took a pomegranate — oh the drunken middle class shame of it). If I still lived in the area I would be here every day but when I walk by I still pop in to buy chocolate and assure the men here that I have not turned to the dark side.
